Michael Paterson It's awfully great! no mistakes, and the meter and rhythm are excellent too. But he is playing it too fast. Most people play this one too fast. Remember it's supposed to be a march. Not a sprint! Think of the tempo of a march...rigid...evenly spaced notes...and as a pianist I can vouch that it is actually MORE difficult to play a little slower.
nah, not boring if the rhythm is holding your interest...perhaps only you play it in a boring way at a slower tempo, but I can hold the listener's interest at a slower tempo in the manner I play it.
I'm not a pianist, and I stepped over this only by a Edvard Grieg playlist. But I am very impressed. It shines out in sound quality, precision and expression. Are you a world-wide reknown pianist? You'd deserve it, man!
that isn't an amazing performance, it's too fast! and some parts are wrong... and there's a lot of tempo drop between the first and the second part... (sorry for possible bad english but i'm italian)
Absolutly Amazing! truely Breath taking! you are a skillful, SKILLFUL person to be able to play so well! 5 stars! you really made my day with that song!
Ich kann nicht mehr aufhören, es zu spielen. Einfach herrlich. Gefällt mir besser, als es von den "Meistern" gespielt wird. Mir gefällt die Dynamik, mit welcher hier gespielt wird. Echt klasse!!
nice! i played this a few years back and it has to be one of my favourite pieces. when im not doing an exam i must hunt out that music again! :D well played!
@cgabrielac when I was yonger, I used to listen to an orchestra version and they performed it as fast as him, I wasn't shocked but impressed. Well done !
Don’t be jealous. It might lead you to strive for things that weren’t meant for you. I think a better way to put it might be to try and aim to follow his manner of playing
this is the first on i clicked on when i was looking up this song, and i didnt realize it was sped up till i read the comments. later i listened to how it was pos. 2 be played...and its just not the same, but i absolutly love it this was i think it sounds so much better and more advanced i
Funny how people think this is sped up.... I first heard this played by Leif Ove Andnses and his runtime for it is 3:02.... Nobody would argue that HE plays it too fast! Anyway, well-done, I enjoyed listening to this :)
WHO is this wonderful pianist?! I love him! Torn blue jeans, relaxed hands that move so fast they are a blur...mastery without pretension; a rare gem indeed. Thank you for sharing.
Very well played. Grieg titled this piece "Trolltog" ("Troll Procession" or, loosely, "March of the Trolls"). Unfortunately, his (German) publisher mistranslated that as "Zug der Zwerge" ("March of the Dwarfs"). He also mistranslated and misunderstood the names of a number of Grieg's other pieces - often obscuring from non-Norwegian players Grieg's ingenious subtleties. More than most composers, Grieg intended every note and every phrase to evoke its aspect of the image he was creating. Rather than just relief from the frenetics, he intended the midsection (0:50) to reflect the unease and scariness engendered by these sinister mischievous supernatural beings as they scurry around (1:19) in the dark night.
Allow me to disagree Technique is amazing Emotion is zero Music is a lot more than dexterity and agility. I don't like it either, but that's just personal I guess. What I suspect is that if you have listened to this performance without watching it you would probably have a different opinion..... (probably) Just a though...!!!
I want to say one thing. Speed is completely subjective. One person's "too fast" is the next's "too slow." I can't say why, for sure, but people are definitely 'wired' differently. In other words, a musical tempo that may seem rushed to one person can be perceived as perfectly paced to another.
Really beautiful playing. Amazing orecision. My son played this for his level 6 NYSSMA when he was 11, I thought he did pretty amazing, but wow, it wasn't nearly as fast as you played it!! It's sad, he doesn't play anymore, and watching you, makes me think of how he could have played if he continued.
@LordBassoon nope, i play it too, (not nearly as well ;)) and its called alot of things, trolltog, march of the dwarfs, Zug Der Zwerge and march des nains.
how have i not heard this before! I have always enjoyed edvard grieg and his ingenuity to succeed in his own utopian fantasia... but dam it if its not persuading to barge into mine!
It is in English - Grieg's language reads as Troldog, which some people translated to Trolls - maybe because Dwarves and Trolls are the same size in all the stories. That's my understanding anyhow.
you are my idol !! haha =) no, really.... i have only started to read this piece so I play it like...... three or four times slower =/ my goal is to play in this tempo, though..... one day. ...ahhhhh
@erlend288 uuhhhh my sister has to play this song, and it's called "March of the Dwarfs". Anyway, i camnt get enough of this, i LOVE IT!!!! i totally want to learn how to play this
Great job!!! I was blown away by how fast your hands move. I am playing this piece right now and octaves in the bass are tough to play so fast. Is there any technique or advice that you can suggest? Anyways, thanks for posting this masterpiece and fantastic work.
Now that is what i call AWESOMENESS ! It sounds so beautiful ! and looks so cool ! wanna learn to do just 2 % of what u can some day!! cause this was wonderful!! thanx for sharing:-)
Tempo and carattere very good. But reading mistakes after the difficult passage of octave of the left end. And not very nice the central part, with solfeggio mistakes every phrase end. Sorry for my english mistakes.
Well, March of the Trolls has been rearranged from piano to the orchestra. It's the same composition, really. You will find the same with Grieg's Holbergs suite.
30 years trying to figure out what was the name of the theme from the game Trolls and Tribulations. I can finally die in peace.
+1111post Same! Heard it 7 years ago and desperatly tried to find the name.
Nice.
Grieg himself would smile at this version! Full speed, moody and with great contrasts. Awesome!
I´ve been watching over 15 different people playing this song, but this version
is by far the most satisfying.
It's TOO FAST
@@v3n115 its the best one
Erm Akshually it's called a piece ☝️🤓
This is the best version of this song
Michael Paterson It's awfully great! no mistakes, and the meter and rhythm are excellent too. But he is playing it too fast. Most people play this one too fast. Remember it's supposed to be a march. +Jeffery Willis I played this in my childhood in the same tempo as this video. Playing it slower is b-o-r-i-n-g!
nah, not boring if the rhythm is holding your interest...perhaps only you play it in a boring way at a slower tempo, but I can hold the listener's interest at a slower tempo in the manner I play it.
Well you'll have to post a video and prove it Jeffery ;)
+Michael Paterson well said, really put him in his place Micheal.
I'm not a pianist, and I stepped over this only by a Edvard Grieg playlist. But I am very impressed. It shines out in sound quality, precision and expression. Are you a world-wide reknown pianist? You'd deserve it, man!
Mein gods, dude, you have spiders at the end of your arms!
Jokes aside, great composition, loved it. Classy but playful, like everything by Grieg.
Are u German?
Wow ich übe das Stück auf und das erfordert sehr viel Übung
Kannst du es jetzt spielen?
I don't get why the dislikes. This is an amazing performance, great technique, loved the stability of your left hand on the tempo. Thanks for sharing!
Maybe because of the video's quality?
that isn't an amazing performance, it's too fast! and some parts are wrong... and there's a lot of tempo drop between the first and the second part... (sorry for possible bad english but i'm italian)
@@daniele.mancini3224 It's supposed to be like that to add emotion, it would sound weird if the speed is constant through the whole song
Wow! And I'm supposed to learn how to play this song... just started it the other day.
That was extremely good! Thanks.
Absolutly Amazing! truely Breath taking! you are a skillful, SKILLFUL person to be able to play so well! 5 stars! you really made my day with that song!

Spielst du es immer noch? :) Bei mir läufts noch nicht so schnell, vorallem die Oktaven brauchen noch ein bischen Übung :D
I love it! It really captures a sort of demanding and macabre, yet sweet, magical essence!
Wow wow wow, ich bin sprachlos, best version I've ever heard
Man, I'm playing this for a recital. I can't even HOPE to get it this good. Good job! Perfect!
Seems like a lovely man, extremely talented, love to hear and see him play it is a joy.
As a german I like this

Still true
man, this is an amazing performance!!! i had a sudden urge to listen all of the peer gynt songs and stumbled on this
Das ist absolute KLASSE!!!!!In diesen Fingern lebt Grieg.
What supple hands, it also a pleasure to watch!
Love Grieg's pieces.
One of the best versions I've seen so far...I'm purely impressed. Only one word fits this: Perfect.
Wow ! I'm going to share this on facebook. I pray you don't mind. But your playing had me gasping in beauty it was quite wonderful. Jane.
I dont normally comment on vids but i found myself clapping afterwords. You have great talent. Its amazing.
I agree BaumKeksMensch! it's played with vigor and speed here. I think that's the ideal tempo on both fast and slow parts!
beautifully played - beautiful Grieg music
Wow I actually searched for a video that was made 14 years ago, no joke
nice! i played this a few years back and it has to be one of my favourite pieces. when im not doing an exam i must hunt out that music again! :D well played!
Beyond comment. I show all my students this once a year. They are nearly always blown away.
Oh, and I personally love the speed you play the tune at and this is one of my favorite performances of it up on youtube.
@cgabrielac when I was yonger, I used to listen to an orchestra version and they performed it as fast as him, I wasn't shocked but impressed. Well done !
Those octaves around :30 were nuts, man. Bravo.
@AnastasijaMTV yeah but when he slows down for that second part, it balances everything really well
Sir, you are marvelous. I truly envy your talent
Don’t be jealous. It might lead you to strive for things that weren’t meant for you. I think a better way to put it might be to try and aim to follow his manner of playing
@@deven.peterson28 Only 7 years late!
It’s a very cool!
wonderful!
Very coool :) But re-learn the the part on 0:28 to . You're playing the same 3 bars twice. It doesn't start on the d the second time, but the b.
I don't have a piano so i don't know what those words mean like D minor or g minor but i mostly imagine music as colors when i hear it
DrRock it's hard to tell who you are talking to when you don't use their names

WOOOOW! PERFECT!

this music captures the spirit of Norwegian folklore so well^^
Wow. Just wow. I'm learning this song.
@Ella645 Not only the speed, but also the smoothness of all this - not a movement wasted.
Funny how people think this is sped up.... I first heard this played by Leif Ove Andnses and his runtime for it is 3:02.... Nobody would argue that HE plays it too fast! Anyway, well-done, I enjoyed listening to this :)
Totally insane performance! Loved it!
thanks for this wonderful video! it's great that we can see the hands, so hypnotic. well done.
Great job!
Some curious chords there - which differ from the version I have, but well played none the less! Terrific piece!
that...looks absolutely cool!! :D 5 thumbs up!! hmmm...i gotta find the other 3 thumbs....xD gambate for your other piano pieces!
Ganz große Klasse!! Danke für das schöne Stück!

Das ist echt soo schön.
i love the part from 0:50 to 2:15...
it's absolutely gorgeous.
I'm envious of your playing skills
Fantastic! I have no words!

Or maybe they just dont like the piece
@XtreOo I'm kinda confused at your comment... I was just complimenting him on his octaves. They aren't easy. He should play some ragtime.
Wow!! very well played!!! excellently recorded!!! I will learn this!!
enzo
The jumps the left has to make in the first part are difficult. You do them amazingly well.
Исполнение просто на высшем уровне, класс!
i completely agree with you!!! i'm fed up with people who play this so slow! im currently learning it, hope i'll make it to this level!
I want to say one thing. Speed is completely subjective. One person's "too fast" is the next's "too slow." I can't say why, for sure, but people are definitely 'wired' differently. In other words, a musical tempo that may seem rushed to one person can be perceived as perfectly paced to another.
