Even though she didn’t show any emotion during the program, she did start to change when they did her first update. When they did her second update it was revealed that she was living with her Uncle. Instead of him being a positive influence, he was encouraging Ashley to sell drugs and run the streets. Unfortunately Ashley was found dead in a abandoned house that her and her girlfriend were squatting in. I think she had potential but no one was able to be a positive role model for her. She literally thought that everyone went to prison.
You’re right Dee, this program isn’t very effective. I did a little research on Google. It says that not only does this program not work, it also has caused an increase in violence and crime. I’m sure it worked for some of the kids but overall it’s not a good way to deal with bad ass kids. Who knew that bullying and threatening kids wouldn’t work? That’s one of the reasons why kids that have been bullied and abused by adults become defiant in the first place. It definitely won’t help kids that have mental health issues. It was an entertaining show though.
It's not like these kids wake up one day and decide to get what they get into. The adults in their lives and their enviroents influence them. Some of these children have already gone through a lot of trauma, this programme isn't going to do anything. This is just another traumatic experience. Their going to go back to the same influences. It's sad

i don't understand how this was supposed to really help most kids. they already don't have a lot of respect for the law or the police (like a lot of us who don't even participate in crimes) so wouldn't officers screaming in their faces and shit just cause more resentment? how about bringing them to a prison therapist/psychologist and let them talk about their issues? they weren't always bad kids so obviously something got them to that point. how tf is NOT figuring out the root issue going to help them in any way? these kids and their issues were exploited for tv, i swear

These programs don't work. I worked at a youth residential treatment facility for over a year. Kids 12-18. They had their spiel of "is this hurting or helping?" Those kids don't give a fuck about that because they're being spoken to like 5 year Olds. The problem was that you can give then all the tools they need but without the support of their families they won't make it. Some do. Some of the girls I've worked with are in their 20's now and they're doing pretty good. A few of them have become meth addicts and it hurts me to see them that way because they had so much potential. One of them I run into alot when I'm downtown. I'm not sure what happened to her but she's always by herself, looking like a zombie. She noticed me long before I noticed her and she looks so broken. I hate seeing her like that. She used to be this intelligent, fiery girl. The bullying doesn't work. Why would you bully people who already bully others to see how they feel about it? It SOUNDS good in theory but in practice it has the opposite effect. Most of these kids aren't "bad." They need help. But their families need help too. Programs are only good when the families are getting help as well. You can't expect these kids to change when nothing in their environment is changing.
Dee, my younger cousin did the scared straight program in the early 00's it didn't work he ended up serving 3 life sentences for murdering 8 people during a labor day block party. He was 19 when went in back in 2008
