Hi you mentioned a single phase 2hp motor and switches, l've just bought a Bantam and want to copy what you did to yours. Could you please tell me or recommend the motor and reverse switch you used. Many thanks
Hi John, enjoy your videos, I think a short video on your Boxford VFD would be useful to everyone out here, its minefield of choice (and price) in the market.
Hi Dec It depends what you are making The Colchester is bigger and stronger There are more bits available for the Boxford I sold my Bantam to buy the Boxford (it was a minter and I had to have it) I would have liked to have kept both John
Your box ford would not be very big though I guess?? I have a colchester master 2500 and I need to take it home from my unit and run it on 240 volts but its got a 240/415 3 phase motor and I am told I need a VFD but they cary in price so much I dont know what the hell to get ;(
Have little knowledge of VFDs but we went with a Transwave box of capacitors. Apparently that type of capacitor doesn't last very long - and I'm not convinced how good quality the effective 3ph from it is as you have to tune it to the load - and it's been suggested only good for low power. Running a motor on unbalanced phases is more likely to lead to winding burnout :(

"it all works" he says. - well, apart from the third shaft control !

WELL !! What's your REASON !!?? For Selling !! It !?? Then ??
Why did you sell the Bantam? Did you just need a larger machine?
how come you sold your colchester? IMO better then your boxford?
I used drives direct (ebay) Found them very helpful
240 3 phase is great
Not cheap though
The other option is a transwave converter
No it had a 2 horse single phase motor
It would have been much better with a VFD
My Boxford lathe has a VFD very happy with it
Was that colchester powered by a VFD??
That was actually really interesting to watch. Good luck selling it. :)
hello did you sell this lathe
What is the size of the pulley on your motor please help me
My lathe runs the standard pulleys for the 2 speed motor
@@doubleboost for colchester student and I have a single phase motor 7hp 1440rpm
@@doubleboost how big is the pulley
