Agreed that "All Digital" is not the way to go. While I'll support SOME Digital Purchasing, as variety is the spice of life, Physical ownership is always superior. The fact that Sony dug into other people's property is an issue...
What a way to overdramatize this incident. They went into people's psn accounts, those accounts are on their own platform. How else do u think people get refunds on playstation for example? U contsct the support, they give u the money back and take the license away exactly like in this case.
No one was supposed to have the demo yet and them taking the licenses away again was completely justified.
think its in the terms of conditions somewhere it says sony hase the right to do stuff like this im not 100% sure but its the same with nintendo and MS
It’s not your property. Every game u buy is just a license to use it that can be revoked whenever they want
worries me in the future when next gen comes out like i have a lot of ps3 games on disc and digital but still means i dont own them, but it can happen on anysystem steam could do this in any case we did agree to the term of service when we signed up for psn, MS, and so on just sayingmany people dont bother to read it butits there@@Infernal_Crusader
@@Infernal_Crusaderyeah but this is a FREE demo we’re talking about. Tell me which $70 game was erased that you purchased, if you can that is
piracy won't be stealing then
It's still stealing. Stop twisting reality to fit your whims.
@@Xoulrath_ You don't need to look far in history to see terrible or unfair laws. Being anti consumer being met with consumers rebelling works for me.
@@jonathanthompson4077 So when people were pirating when there weren't even digital games yet what were they rebelling against?
I really like these types of comments, because you're admitting that piracy is indeed stealing.
Imagine buying a game or movie only for the company to take it from you despite you own a copy? Wouldn't you be upset about it, that's why people pirate not for stealing but to keep what is taken with your hardened money.
Let me start off with saying I AGREE WITH you about not having an all digital future. The only part I disagree with it being hard for them to release a software update. Roku basically prevented my mom from using her TV until she agreed to the new ULA. Not fully the same thing, but the idea a digital platform can prevent you access is not new. Especially considering the amount of users who pay for online and would like to play with friends. Most people won't go through the hoops to make sure their console doesn't auto update, never play online, or spend money on another console to enjoy both.
This... I always remind people ya have to agree to the terms before using the product otherwise ya can't use it
Reaching into your account is scary
Even if it was a mistake demo drop
These companies shouldn't be able to
remove ANYTHING from your library
Physical won’t go away no matter how much people have talked about it for years.
There are already strong rumors that the next XBox and Playstation will lack physical disc drives. With the wider availability of higher-speed Internet access around the globe, all-digital distribution becomes more and more viable. Which means they can skip out on producing physical media. Of course, the price of the games won't get any cheaper because of this. The corpos will simply pocket the profits, because that's how capitalism works.
That's the hope but with each new generation growing up in an all digital media society where physical media is shrinking how long would the physical market last?
Exactly it was said that dvd will be gone because of digital and they are still around same thing with the cinema because streaming service have grown
When games go all digital, I'll stop buying them, Plaine and simple. I already cut back on my steam purchases. I don't like how they force you to update your games and you can wake up and games get removed. Also, I have console and handhelds that I never update. They stay offline and stay on old firmware where I don't need an internet connection
An all digital future makes me angry. Not everyone can have a constant internet connection! 😤 They will lose sales that’s for sure.
At the beginning of the week my internet went down for a couple of hours, and I couldn't do anything with my switch or ps5 for that matters, so yeah that sucks big time.
@@robinnewhouse1563why can't you do anything with your Nintendo switch you should be able to use it just fine without the internet
@@isaiahnova1912 since I opted for the family plan version of Nintendo Online there's a mandatory check of license each time I open a game, if I open a game and just stay within it for a couple of days it's not a problem, but as soon as I switch the game it has to check the licenses. Excluding physical copies of course, but it's so much cheaper to buy them digitally when you can share them then with your whole family 😂
@@isaiahnova1912 exactly
my Switch is always offline while at work and I have a lot of digital games installed, so I was still able to play them cause there's no bullshit DRM on them
unless they were playing those crappy free-to-play games or those crappy Cloud-only games, no digital game on Switch is blocked from having the console offline
For some reason my comment got lost for whatever reason, but just to clarify since I opted for the family Nintendo Online plan there's a mandatory license check before starting a game. If you stay within the game all day it's no problem, even with no internet connection, but I guess at least once per day, and each time you switch a game it has to check and verify.
Also buying a game and sharing it with 5 others in the family instead of buying 5 physical copies is goated.
And THIS is what I've been trying to tell people for years - ever since paid dlc became a thing... and they've let it become normalised anyway.
This won't be the first time and it certainly won't be the last.
Stay physical, reject digital.
That won't matter cause all disc's do is give you access to download the game
@@leookamisenpai17that’s not how it works on PS5. The content is all on the disc and you don’t need internet to install it. That’s only Xbox where the physical disc does nothing but allows you to download from their servers.
Shoutout to Yaboyroshi for being quick on the draw and uploading a video of the full demo
Bro, did you just say "from all intensive purposes" at the 30 second mark?🤦
All digital is a huge step in the wrong direction. I always get physical copies of games and only get digital if there’s no other option.
" They go into your account and get it." No, thats not how it works, they removed the demo and disabled access to the application for all. Huge difference between the truth and what your are saying. Im a physical guy myself, but lets keep it honest. Nothing was " snatched". Access was denied to something you werent supposed to have.
That puts a whole different spin on it.
That's right
Ok but they can block your access to anything.
@@barcster2003 And they could do that with physical media, too.
@@barcster2003 they can. if it was them doing that with something that someone paid for. I think we all would agree but this was a free demo that went up early so I cant jump on this hate train. but then again i do mostly physical with enough games in my backlog to play for a life time.
Basically we renting the game until we *Modified* the game.
If its available physically I will buy it over digital, until they can no longer legally snatch games off my private property that I paid for then ti will not buy digital
Dude my biggest problem with this is this is a single player why does this game have micro transactions ingame currency it’s a single player I understand dlc but this the second game Ive seen this on thanks gta
I agree that it’s a very tricky situation with digital games but these console companies won’t remove a game for no reason cause if there’s no reason they will be sued it’s still a deal between the provider and the customer they removed the demo cause they’re still going to officially put it out there later but yes you need to be careful about what you purchase digitally
I've been a video game collector since the 80's, I am a PHYSICAL game collector!!! Not a fan of digital!!! Supporting all PHYSICAL media, example, I still listen to my 80's and 90's music in my show VW with CD's!!! PHYSICAL media please!!! Bought FFVII REBIRTH PHYSICAL disc, love playing my favorite RPG game!!! My opinion!!! KeepKeep up your content!
That marketing move is crazy
Steam's been doing this too, making demos downloaded unplayable when they're removed.
And it does suck
Its really dumb that they don't allow those that downloaded the demo can play it, wish I knew about it and downloaded myself, very interested in this game.
I can understand the license or copyrights reasons that can delist a game from the network from further purchases and its great that if you have previous purchased the game and can redownload it, , but it really worries me not only if they decide to do this for future demo or full digital purchases on the network, but what if they decide to do this to physical copies as well.
Imagine a company tells Sony or the others that they don't want their games to be played on that system anymore so they apply a system update that prevents games from being played, what if they can do the same thing for disk's?
You pretty much have to install almost any game on the hard drive, especially if you want the fast loading on the SSD, so whats stopping these companies from telling Sony and others saying disable our games from being played on their system.
That could be a market strategy to where if Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo release new consoles and instead of continue to play games on the previous console, a patch is released to prevent playing games from a previous generation so they are forced to buy the old games on the new consoles.
Seems like its a lot harder to do with physical discs and probably not worth the effort. It might even spark lawsuits because we have legal protections for pysical products. It would be like if Sony sent updates to brick peoples consoles, they would get sued for it.
1:43 Its sensational to say they went into a persons account. They revoked the license from all users. Thats an appropriate response for this situation.
However, it is terrifying to have digital products which can be terminated at any time. Its a big reason that i have redirected a lot of my spending back to physical for key titles.
Anything for the clicks.
If they want us to embrace digital then make the games cheaper or give us the ability to rent games for cheaper
On PC this is already the reality, we cant buy CDs anymore. But we have access to the gamefiles openly laying in the folder so we are able to sometimes crack and still play them. Tho there are games that cant be cracked, and Denuvo seems to try to make the games even more uncrackable. I really fear for that..
4:03 For me it works like this, I buy digital games on my PC and physical Games on my Nintendo Switch (unless the game is digital only), and I don't buy any games on Playstation or XBOX because PC, especially a custom PC, can outperform either of those consoles and the vast majority of their games end up on Steam anyway, except Bloodborn apparently :(. I would buy physical PC games, but they don't make physical PC games any more, just a box with a download code, so I can't.
Bro just get a physical copy... the data is on the disc....
At worst reset factory settings.. and play totally offline. Simple...
Nintendo will never go digital
I'm a mixed bag, because I do both physical & digital. Not having to get up to change discs every time is honestly quite nice. However, this seems very dire, because those that do get the digital copy might be unprotected. I was already planning on getting the physical copy of both this & Black Myth Wukong, so I'm good.
Playstation messed up and accidentally leaked something ahead of time, without Shift Up’s consent, why are we making up drama about a demo that’s gonna release in a few weeks anyways? Can someone help me understand this. It’s not like people purchased the demo and it was ripped from their hands. Chill out please.
he needs clicks hahaha
One thing I don’t like about digital like you said you get better deals with physical copies I have noticed digital games that are years old that are still being sold for full price when you can get physical copies for like $20-$30
Never been into anime fighters. You could pull a Yu Yu Hakusho game out and I still wouldn’t care. Hell, release a card game based off of Greed Island. Don’t care. I liked the anime. That’s the extent of it.
If you think about it whenever you get a demo, you’re technically purchasing a license to be able to play the demo, so when they went into users account and took the license back restricting variability to use with a purchased they are technically breaking the law, however, their terms and conditions say otherwise then they are not
Physical media will never go totally away kinda like you can still find vinyl records.
Digital media will be the future so get ready for it.
You can't steal it when it's your property. It may suck but they have every right.
But you don’t physically own the game you only own it digitally not physically
But you still paid for it, which is technically yours.@@monkeydluffy5054
Just pre-order the physical copy
damn going into people's accounts to take the demo away is actually wild indeed. Not looking forward to all digital at all.
This is why i keep my physical media games and i hope we don't go all digital if we do go all digital media at this point i rather go pc than a console period guys !! .
there is a bug on the playstation consoles that is wiping out games from people's digital library
What?
Soon all of us are going to be digital slaves
Rebell.
Not terrifying to me because I am fine with no more gaming when physical goes away. I will never touch digital anything. And I don't care to waste my data cap on games or streaming anything. I don't even download updates until I fully know what is in it. And it's never connected to the internet unless there is something to fix on a game. But I only play monster hunter and they don't do bugs
I don't get the issue here cause all of this is known. People weren't meant to have the demo as the release of the demo was an accident, taking it away was completely justified
Correct, mate. Just typical faux outrage and pathetic hysteria that this guy often produces.
The fact there went into each individual accounts to remove it is the problem
I think you're missing the whole point of the video
You missing the whole nother part. Lol
It's not about this demo. Its about the fact that they removed the demo from people'saxcounts who already had it. Meaning in a hypothetical all digital future devs can literally just take games away from you without warning.
The usual excuse is "well, as long as I have it they can't take it away, right?"
Except this scenario proves that theory wrong.
Where were you guys when Konami snatched the PT demo? It's old news that companies can snatch things away whenever they want for any reason, it's just most don't, as it would be VERY bad PR.
People that already had the P.T. Demo installed on their consoles were able to keep the Demo. I am sure they wanted to remove it from peoples consoles, but the technology didn't exist yet to allow them to have full remote access to your console 24/7.
@@russellmania5349 Oh yeah. True. That's why such PS4 are worth hundreds, if not grands due to that severely limited demo.
Again nothing new about this as we already seen Sony do it already to customers in Europe. The continual grey area will be the issue of ownership with digital purchases be it games, music or movies.
It takes away soo much control and rights of the customer and leaves it in the hands of the company where who knows that if a person causes an inconvenience for the company that said company could easily wipe away that persons account and their so called owned purchases would disappear as well.
My take on Xanadu is Falcom ripped everything amazing about Trails and Ys and combined the rest.
This digital only stuff is not something new. Maybe because I'm old enough. I always supported physical since you get "something" and not just digital like a "service". We all are going to that direction (streaming in all media), and that's unfortunate. As well as physical money currency, they want to remove that and make all digital. I agree is for "control" purposes, they want to have more control on people
Okay I'm more interested in the Hunter x Hunter game knowing it's a 2D fighter (I suppose 2D with 3D characters is the thing), it's been awhile since we had an ACTUAL 2D fighting game from a NAMED anime and not just an anime inspired or style game world like Guilty Gear or Gran Blue...yeah I know Gran Blue has an anime but it was a mobile game first iirc...I'm talking something like Naruto, Dragon Ball, stuff like that. The arena fighter craze took over those kinds of big names and it has churned out quite a lot of them...some better than others. I honestly miss the old PS2 Naruto 2D style fighters.....they had the most bonkers Ultimate Jutsus when they just made things up and you could have more of them for one character than just the single one we have in the Storm series. I also think My Hero Academia could have really been a better 2D fighter than a 3D arena fighter...but hey that's just my opinion.
I get that people are worried about an "all digital future" but nobody arguing here is talking about how Sony is likely legally obliged to shut down the demo and prevent access to it. Putting out a demo early is a pretty big f-up for a publisher and probably violates the contracts and terms they have with the studio. Sony doesn't own Stellar Blade, it's not their ip or product to give away even if it's a demo. It seemed pretty obvious to me that a product that you weren't suppose to have access to would be removed from your library, after all you don't own the game you're playing you own a license to play it (that goes for digital or physical). it's common sense that a license to something that was incorrectly provided would be revoked. I understand why people could be upset over this, but it's completely misplaced. They can legally revoke a licence to a product you shouldn't have, but they can't revoke a license to a game you have paid for. Even if PSN shut down completely you would still be able to access your offline games as long as the console still functions.
Good thing people uploaded footage of the demo and nothing Sony can do about that.
thinks its in the term and conditions that says sony has the right to do this to your account im not saying its right but same with MS and nintendo they can take the licence away from physical and digital
i love both physical, digital and could media gaming equally and i don't care and don't mind if i own the game or don't own the game i also don't mind i'm ok with the digital and could gaming future because there is apart of me that does trust it but there is also another part of me that doesn't trust it the only thing i do agree that it's bad when they take away our digital games and could games too
Hopefully more ppl realize that all digital is not the way to go. If that future ever does happen in my life time then I'll abandon that gen of consoles
Digital is a choice. Plus this not the first demon that got posted early then removed. So i dont get how its a big deal. Steam exist not nothing bad has happen yet.
The clash of ninja music slaps lol
money grubbing Nintendo. Their AAA games barely go on sale on the eShop.
*I knew someone would find a way to blame Nintendo or Xbox for Sony's f-up.*
@@TiVo2Go It always happens

Game sharing killed Physicals unfortunately.

I can tell that Piracy is going to pick up again.
If anybody really read the description before they "BUY" the game online, they should know even though they click the "BUY" button, but In reality, they just paid to "RENT" the game.
The word "BUY" is just a complete lie.
Just like when you "BUY" a movie online on any streaming company, actually you just pay to "RENT" the right to watch that movie.
Companies can delete it anytime they want, and It's already happened multiple times.
Sometimes I just don't understand why the big companies openly lie and mislead their customer but there's literally no one say anything about it.

"I go digital who needs physical copies"
There you go you digital shills, a small taste of what all digital means. They can pull off anything because you signed for it when buying from their store. You know these pages upon pages of end user agreements? Whoever reads them? Exactly, nobody does. I stopped buying from psn except for dlc's. With those you have no choice sometimes. Or you have to buy some kind of "ultimate" edition *IF* it comes with on physical media maybe 1-2 years after first release...
And you think you can't get screwed over for buying physical? lol
i will buy this game no matter what
I don't think the demo drop was an accident. Its like people have never heard of a publicity stunt. Sony/Stellar Blade got more publicity with that limited drop than Sony ever could have paid for with advertising. Sony, "accidently releasing the game to the entire world" just seems like a huge stretch to me.
all of this entire argument is a NON ISSUE. flat out and full stop. it was a leaked demo that obviously want suppose to release, not a whole game.
people who cry and complain about an "all digital future" (does not and will not exist in reality btw) have no idea how video games are made or produced or even ran from companies. this is such a nothing burger of a section of your video and an overall useless complaint.
I can give you that it wasn't supposed to be released but it just shows what they can do for digital if they deem you shouldn't have it.
The P.T demo debacle wasnt even as egregious as this!!! Konami just made it so you couldn't re-download it if you deleted it, they didnt go into your files and "take it" back!!!
I'm sure they wanted to remove P.T. Demos from peoples console, but the technogy wasn't there yet to allow Sony 24/7 remote access to your console.
hi OJ
Very interesting.
Wow i known some terrifying things in my life, but losing access to a demo or video game wouldn't be in that conversation.
You pay for a lifetime license and the companies should uphold that, that is the same regardless of whether you buy physical or digital and has always been the case.
Granted physical is never going to been taken because its impractical. But in they digital world they now have a way to enforce the licence agreement that you agree to upon purchase, however my understanding is that games have always been a lifetime license so again they should honour that.
You don't buy a demo so i don't think those being removed is an issue they are there to get you to buy the full product.
The public store will be removing movies and games off the shelves of this year they won't be selling them anymore. The digital era is here bro. There is nothing we could do about it.
It's going to be hard to get physical copies
There's always something you can do
