we had the same thing happen two years ago and after we fixed the fence, after we had our guard dog sleep at the barn, we left our cows out another night, and it happened again. After that, we bought two sweet and lovely and amazing donkeys. PROBLEM OVER!!! Never again has anything happened. The donkeys have their open stall, and at night they become like patrol officers around the whole big field. Never again has an animal died, never again has the fence been broken or pulled, but we got to see two big coyotes dead, with their skull fractured and on them was the undeniable print of our sweet little donkeys hoofs!!! Just amazing.

When you own a sweet gentile animal like George was it really hurts when you lose that animal. My sincere condolences.
I would suggest you if you have coyotes or things around. You should purchase some donkeys. They are very well at taking care of herds
When they first got Brutus my thought was , shoulda got donkeys. I really think with all the wildlife they have 1 of anything as a guard is a waste of money. Cog Hill only has 40 acres and they have 3 guard dogs and 2 donkeys. I,d say get at least 2 donkeys and 1 more dog

Absolutely get donkeys and leave their stalls open so they can get out and patrol. So sorry for your loss of a very beautiful and sweet animal to prey. I don’t believe that goose did it.
Prayers for you guys. My heart breaks. Probably wouldn’t hurt to have about four guardian dogs. And at least some tough fences up there at the barn and stuff and the paddocks.

Oh, Good Lord. I am SO very sorry for the loss of George. I hope whatever happened, he didn't suffer. Such a sweet boy. My heart is truly broken for you guys. Truly broken. George was a very fine looking Bull. So sorry for your loss, it's such a devastating thing. Seeing you and Gina standing tall and coping with this is an inspiration to us all. No one ever promised life on the homestead would be easy, it's often built with a little blood, a lot of sweat, a few tears and oh so many prayers.

Al and family sorry that you lost George. The hotwire is ok inside permanent boundary fences but not as your boundary fence. You need donkeys and you need another dog or two because the dogs work together. A goose had nothing to do with this incident. You have large predator at your farm. I think i would put all your animals in doors because this predator will be back! Im just telling you these things not to be bossy but just to help one of the hardest working families . These are hard lessons to learn. Give gina a hug from all of viewers and will keep you in our prayers!!!

Our hearts go out to your family. What a devastating loss. The dog is great, but still a little young. With a place the size of yours, you need donkeys and Wi-Fi cameras. First Figaro, now George, you live in a wild untamed area. What a hard lesson to learn. Things happen for a reason, looking forward to the new replacement. It’s a sad reality of farm life.

Sorry for your livestock loss. I am sure others have said it. But, I grew up on a cattle ranch in Wyoming. Cows, bovines, have poor eye sight. Great smellers and hearing, eyesight poor, worse at night, cows spook easy at night, think of the old stampede do to thunder ect.... just sayn he got spooked and stampeded...likely the goose. 😢 So sorry for your loss. I was bawling right along with you, Gina. Our cows got out last night also. A neighbor found them 2 miles down the road. We were lucky and got them both back, though. Thinking of you guys and praying for you. ❤🙏❤

Rest in Peace George. Poor Miles. I agree with others, donkeys are said to be excellent guardians perhaps you should get a couple if you can.
Sorry for the loss of George, unfortunately that is part of things that happen when raising livestock. I grew up on a farm and we always had all kinds of animals and for various reasons you lost one here and there. My thoughts are those animals you have a big investment in and big future plans for should be protected especially where you live. Put them in the barn at night so they are shielded from any roaming predators.
It's a learning process but don't let this set you back, find another bull and continue your quest for the things you still want to accomplish. Good luck to you.... Another thing you might consider is an intercom or cameras linked to your phone in and around the barn to alert you of possible trouble, I would have to think that Brutus would know if predators were around and bark like crazy so you could hear that through the intercom and hit the lights and let pew pew bark at least to scare any threat away. If you are still locking Brutus in the barn he may not detect things outside in the night so it would be better to give him access to the outside via a kennel area so he could keep an eye on things better. I also think you should get another dog like Brutus, strength in numbers. And then thinking of remedies a proper fenced corral would also protect them at night from threats and keep them from breaking out in case they did get riled up. You have all that timber so you could build a nice looking rustic corral out of the trees to serve the needed purpose and it wouldn't cost much only the time to get it done.

So sad to hear about George. Highland cattle are beautiful, canny (calm) beasts. So often here in Scotland you see tourists scratching them under their chins and behind their ears right at the side of the road. I hope you can find a replacement for George soon.
