  • I spend some time talking about the Fifth Kumijo in my approach to Aikido. This form is very similar to the Morihiro Saito's 7th Kumijo- which was in fact the inspiration for my fifth form. I like many of the aspects of the form that Saito sensei used, however I have changed a few things and talk about this form differently then he did.

    nice work, sir.
I'm looking forward to the "leg stuff".
I vividly remember visiting a befriended dojo. They are more accustomed to weapons training.. so when we were doing jo dori, they were very conditioned to do drop down after that leg sweep. I, on the other hand, did not understand, why or when I was supposed to fall, just because the jo touched the back of my knee.
No kuzushi, no atemi.. I did not feel moved, at all.
The other students performed the ukemi, because "that's what we always do"..
I love how Aikido is a lot about harmony and collaboration, and I very much enjoy just "dancing the dance".
But often we don't realize, how much we are just conditioned to comply.
This delusion, I believe, stands as a major problem about Aikido..
