- If your airbag light is on, horn and steering wheel buttons may not be working, you may have a bad clock spring. We had the dealer confirm it, but that comes with a cost. This video will walk you through replacement of the clock spring, which is a pretty simple procedure.

Sir I really appreciate your time and effort for making the video! You saved me at least $300 plus so many hours! I don’t know what those people who disliked your video really want but I think your video was detailed and amazing.
same issue with my car. your in-depth video has given me the confidence to try it out myself. Welldone and Thank you.
Thanks from Brazil! (Mk5 Jetta)
Great video! Couldn't find procedure on all data or Mitchell. Thank you.
Thank you! My son and I just did ours in less than 30 minutes thanks to you.
Well made video, extremely helpful. I watched this video, ordered the part, and a week later popped it in with minimal effort. Thanks so much guys!
Just replaced the clock spring on my MKV .:R32 - thanks for the great explanation!
Best video I've ever seen!! Thank you so much sir.
Brilliant walk through of how to do this. Unravels the puzzle very well and would be nigh on impossible without this information. Awesome work.
Thank you for the great tutorial, I'll order the clock spring now and do this at home. Mechanics ask for an arm and leg for the labor!
really appreciate this, perfect instructions and worked a charm - airbag and horn now working :)
It says "Airbag fault!" on the screen at 20:46. Why is that so?
Abdulbaki Aybakan we just didn’t have the means to reset it. At 21:24 I say that we had to hook up to Vag-Com. Now we have an iCarly that I think will also work on the airbag light.
@@FearlessMods Okay 👍
it takes a t55
Did you go with a genuine clockspring or aftermarket/ebay? I ordered an eBay clockspring and am wondering if it will work and if I’ll have to code it haha
Every time I need to replace the clock spring on my son's GTI I watch this video...3x times already :)
😮
how often do they tend to go bad on vwag cars?
Thanks. I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly. 2006 VW Jetta Gli.
Thank you for the great tutorial video. Going to have a go on mine in the next few weeks so now I have lots of useful info from you.
Although mine has the steering wheel on the CORRECT side of the car on the right Ha ! Much appreciated.
At 21:14 a light went out, which light is that? I couldnt understand what was said
It was the steering wheel light. Nothing special was required to make it go out, just a couple of normal turns did it. Good luck!
Excellent tutorial! Saved me a bunch of broken things :)
Followed this video and now my paddleshifters and buttons are working again! Thank you sir 🙏
Awesome video, thx! I noticed once you turned on the ignition there was a loud 'BRRRR' sound for about 5 seconds. Mine does the same, is that normal???
Nope. I hope you figured it out, but if not, check out my video where I get rid of the 'BRRRR' ua-cam.com/video/GMyLFBCyDgI/v-deo.html
Thx for the video. Now I have enough info how to do it. But why the control module needs to be removed? I did not see the reason for that in this video.
Kimmo, if you look at 9:12, you can see on the lower right of the screen where the clock spring assembly mates with the module and prevents you from being able to pull it straight off. At 12:45, you see the plastic part that hangs off the right side of the clock spring that I'm talking about. At 13:24 you can see how the module and that plastic piece mate up during assembly.
Thank you guys for the video just fixed mine wasn't easy but we got it
What if you forgot where the clock spring was at
Great job, very good video. Thank you.
thank you so much. indeed very well made video.
Thank's 4 the help guys 👌
very good job, thank you
What is the buzzing noise or compressor noise when you turned the key back on after the fix
The Air Recirculation Valve which we replace in this video:

@@FearlessMods thanks that helps out a ton
i have the same problem at the moment having the airbag light on and my horn stopped working on my seat leon 2006, and it has exactly the same configuration vw and seat having the same parts...
Just one question do i have to order the control modul aswell or just tthe clock spring?
if only he clock spring why do we have to disconnect the module and remove te wiring??
thank you very much
Imran ahmed on the Mk V GTI, we didn't need the module. Only the clock spring was defective. However, the module has to be removed because it screws onto the clock spring and also has electrical connections with the clock spring.
right i understand now :) great share and video respect
Great informative video 👍 new subscriber here ☝️
Please use the right tools for the job so that the next person that has to remove the steering wheel doesn't have to contend with a buggard bolt. Use a good 12mm triple square not a crappy allen. The right tools for the job keep people from messing their cars up.
Fantastic detail on how to deal with all the fiddly clips - the best video I have seen. Thank you.
Well said
Diy king. Best diy I've seen. Thorough and to the point when it counted.
Well said
Great video thanks. Now my turn!
Good luck Billy!
@@FearlessMods Thanks. Its a Skoda Yeti 2015 that I am doing as all of the controls on the steering wheel have stopped working as well as the horn and the airbag light is staying on. I am just not too sure about purchasing one so as to not regret my purchase.
Very informative thank you
great, great job, thanks man, see ya
Ezpz man, this was great. Saved me time and money. Whole job took about 30 min
why is your airbag light still on while your driving
Ricardo Mandujano see 21:24. Had to hook it up to VAG-COM to clear it is all...
Awesome video!!
Great job!!!
should i buy a genuine clock spring? or can i just buy another one and be fine?
My 2006 jetta does not have the steering wheel electronic control buttons you have. It is the base model. Do you know if there is anything dofferent when doing the clock spring replacement on the standard/base type steering wheel? Thanks for the great video.
rtj49, I'm not 100%, but would assume that since it still has the airbag, it would need to have a similar clock spring. The horn by itself wouldn't require it, but I think the airbag connections would.
Thanks guys, appreciate the help!
I will do this on Saturday thanks 👍🏾
Awesome video! Same issue on my 2008 gti. Do you happen to know the part number and where you got the clock spring? Thanks!
Actually Roy, I don't recall. Simple to have your local auto parts store look it up or you can probably hit up any of them online if you want to get that info yourself.
Que fallaa hace cuando se cambia ese?
For us it was the airbag light. It could also be a problem with buttons on the steering wheel or the horn.
@@FearlessMods gracias amigo, muy bueno..
Thanks so much bro just did it.
Great video. Nice camera work to show the clips. Question though, how would I clear the airbag light (or other dash lights) if I don’t have access to a vag-com? Can I rent one from parts store or must I go to dealer or mechanic?
Thanks @Jason C. The airbag light is absolutely a problem. I've not found a way to clear it other than vag-com or the dealer. I don't think your typical Autozone or Advance will clear those for you.
You shouldn't need to clear an airbag light if you disconnected the negative off the battery before removing the airbag itself..
Great job! I just fixed my 2008 Jetta with your help. TY!
That's why we do it Richard!! You're welcome!
What number parts?
Was your horn not working before u change clock spring, I have airbag light that stays on, but my horn etc all still works
BLAQJESUS BOBBY FRIEND When the clock spring went out, the lights, the turn signals, the buttons and the horn all stopped working, but with all the different strands of wire that run through a clock spring you could have any combination of symptoms.
@@FearlessMods yea all my buttons works and horn works. But my air bag light stays on for some reason
BLAQJESUS BOBBY FRIEND couldn’t hurt to do the clock spring. I assume you’ve tried an airbag code reset already...
Tried all that nothing cuts it off
The horn on my Jetta stopped working when you pressed the horn, but it randomly honks when you turn or your just driving.
The airbag light is also on…
I took the steering wheel off and just turned the clock spring and it would honk randomly again.
I’m getting ready to replace the clock spring and l will let you all know, if that solves the issue.
Thanks for tutorial! Question though... After I replaced clockspring and put everything back together, the yellow steering wheel appeared on the dashboard! I asked the seller and he said that this new unit has to be synchronized with car's internal circuit, but he didn't provide any details on how to do it. What do you think it might be?
Our yellow steering wheel light was on also, but it went out quickly after we backed out of the garage.
well for me it doesnt seem to go away even though Ive been driving all day yesterday :(
so...don't know if this is still a question or not, but I just drove mine for a little bit and it went away. The airbag light is still on, but from research elsewhere on the internet it looks like thats a code you have to clear with a vag-com
@@denivy what's vag com
This video help me a lot. Thanks.
did other buttons on steering wheel work?
Dmytro Riazanov they all work as advertised!
thanks
Exelente explicacion...
thanks for everything
