Steve Shaffer is well-known in the Western States. He had a great life of historical research for lost Spanish legends and ancient civilizations. He wrote many books, including titles like "Of men and Gold", "Out of the Dust", and many more.
Over 20 years ago, Steve Shaffer and Gale Rhoades had the famous mining claim on Hoyt Peak called the Josephine MIne. They hired a couple of college kids to work this old Spanish mine. This is their story.
This is why filming is so important! Unfortunately, Steve Shaffer passed away in September of 2021. This video was filmed in 2019. Gale Rhoades passed away in the 1990s. The two college kids have not been found or located. Without this video, his story would be lost forever.
Steve Shaffer was a great man, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Steve taught Timothy Draper the ways and methods of the old way in the world of treasure hunting. Tim went on to start Treasures in America, Uncharted Expedition Web Series, and his own podcast, Talk Treasure with Tim. This is crazy to hear this happened in Utah. In the 1870's, there was a Mormon settlement that was sent to the base of white peak. My ancestor William Streeper, a well-known pony express rider prior, wrote in his journal that they were being harrassed by something in the trees. At first they thought it was Ute's, as many were angry the land had been sold to settlers in that area, but the more it went on they started to realize that it couldn't be people, because of the size of rocks being thrown and the type of damage being done to their wagons. After a year, livestock started to disappear. This combined with a bad crop from the season forced them to abandon the settlement and head back to the Salt Lake Valley.

my grandmother (deceased) was born in 1890 , she grew up on a Chippewa indian reservation, i showed her a picture in a magazine of the Patterson film around 1976. She wasnt surprised at all and said there was legend in her tribe of using the beasts for heavy labor , moving logs etc. She said they traded them fish and food for heavy work. I forget the name she said they were called , as i recall it was something like oohmah or oh-maw. Just throwing it out there for what its worth.
Morale of the story is be careful what you go looking for because you might just find it.

"A cup of coffee...for the one kid." For the one kid. That is a level of detail, tossed in as part of the story, that nobody would have made up to further a lie. So this man is telling the truth, or at least truth as he knows it. Interesting vid.

I'm not saying this story "isn't true"..........BUT THE MERE MENTION OF A CUP OF COFFEE DOES NOT "PROVE IT'S TRUE". I've had quite a fascination with these things. And for good reason. And explain this, I couldn't remember this crazy crazy crazy experience for about 25 years. until about 5 years ago when I was listening to those Bigfoot stories. Very bizarre. When I finally remembered it I remembered it in full detail.

Kentucky born and raised and I always thought that if they did exist it was in the mountain West. One night in 1995 made a believer out of me. I've heard the howls and whoops more times than I can count. I had a clear visual sighting in April 2021.
@@martyyoung3611 I've had 2 visually confirmed and 1 that I never got to see. Red River Gorge camping (backpack) early 2000's and Otter Creek in Meade County, again camping. This was before social media and cell service was pretty much nonexistent. I had zero thought of Sasquatch back then. Black Bear which were few and far between, coyotes and cats were the only real threats or concerns other than a few snakes. I've shared this information more in the past couple years than I have since my encounters.
However, there is one encounter that I had not far from where I currently reside and it was the most terrifying experience I've ever had. Seeing a Sasquatch up close at about 10-15 yards is one thing but what I saw in the fall of 2014 shook me to my very core. A Dogman. Just thinking about it as I'm typing makes my BP go up. I don't care who you are if you ever see one, even in the daylight, you would shit your pants. I've tried to describe the features to a close friend of mine but no matter how I say it or how descriptive I get...it doesn't even come close to it. Anyone who goes out looking for these creatures/beings, whether it's Sasquatch or Dogman , with the intent of capturing video footage. All I can say is good luck. In all my encounters, I have been terrified frozen stiff. The thought of snapping a picture NEVER even came to mind.
That being said, looking back, I would rather have an encounter with a Sasquatch than a Dogman.
I don't care if people don't believe all these encounters and stories. I wish I hadn't had the encounters I've had. It's all but ruined my love for the woods/forest. It has only been the past few years that I've actually been back camping. No matter which firearm(s) I choose to bring along or the location at which I stay, it's always in the back of my mind.

I have a hard time believing they live in the eastern United States sorry but there’s just not enough room , if you look at a satellite photo of North America at night it’s all lights the whole eastern U.S ! I’m from west coast of Canada 🇨🇦 and we have millions of miles of woods and some Sasquatch because they have room to live in peace unlike in the US

The Uinta mountains hold a special place in my heart, me my brothers and my dad spent countless days up there camping, hunting and fishing. One of the most beautiful places on Earth, but I'll have to admit, there is something spooky about them and I've heard a lot of stories from folks about strange occurrences there.
A lot of people won’t believe if they haven’t seen something for themselves, which I get, I understand it, however ive never seen a Bigfoot, but as God is my witness, my dad and I both seen a Dogman in the north Georgia mountains back in 2003. We use to trout fish up there every year but we haven’t been back since then and that was 21 years ago! What I seen I would’ve never thought could exist, but there it was on the other side of the river from us when we rounded a huge rocky outcropping on the trail to the fishing spot we were headed to, not 35 yards away. Absolutely huge, a deep dark jet black, probably 8 foot tall or about, wide upper body, huge arms, very muscular, the legs were muscular as well, they looked like honches of a dog, but also similar to human legs despite the canid type feet, the arms were extremely long, the forearm part of the arm was nearly twice as long as the upper arm was, from shoulder to elbow, and it had human HANDS, with sharp black curved nails, probably 3 inches or so, though the hands looked very similar to something like a raccoons hand, or even a kangaroo. It’s head was very large and had longer hair around the neck area and was no doubt a canid head, with large pointed ears, I never seen a tail, the hair was thinner around its chest area and got thinner as it went down toward the abs, and it was definitely a male, we could tell…

I had a good friend, same area, camping over night, he went out for fire wood, I guess he was getting to close and Bigfoot started throwing logs the size of telephone pole at him.
They are real and they are out there. Believe or not, your choice. However, an incident like this one will make a believer out of you in a heartbeat; if you still have one.
Always makes me wonder when all of these intellects go tromping around knocking on trees and whooping and hollering with no idea “what” they are communicating. You have no idea what activities you’re inviting them to participate in. Although there hasn’t been a documented confirmed fatality from an encounter, a meeting like this when you come face to face with something that’s “not supposed to exist” will certainly scare the shit out of even the most seasoned outdoors person.

They're so quick they dip into the brush and behind trees before one can aim.. if they're holding a camera every second they're awake....and they've done their best to keep out of sight of man during the day...but logging operations have gotten deep into the woodlands in places. Places where they feed.

I watched this video on a 65 in TV screen and I took a magnifying glass and looked back in the trees and I saw at least three Bigfoot on the far right where that white thinner tree is right back in there and then far left the pine tree behind the white tree looks like a dog man head sticking up out in the middle. Keep looking I'm sure you'll find more.
We've been told by many of our viewers that there's Bigfoot in the tree lines, caught on this video.
I will tell you that night, while I was sleeping in the tent, I woke up to a very strange feeling. I didn't sleep for the rest of the night. I felt like something was watching us and lurking around very slowly.
About 7:00 AM, I still didn't get any sleep and I made my way back to town to get a hotel. I came back every days to conduct our research but I couldn't sleep there anymore.
To this day, I have no problem on the mountain during the day but at night, I head back to the hotel. For over 20 years now, exploring this same mountain top, I know something watches me and me group. I don't even question it anymore. I will explain much more into detail about my experience at a later time.

Back around 1995 or so, Uinta mountains, Utah, I heard a woman say she was up on a high cliff and below was a river. She saw a bear getting a drink. But then it stood up and walked away like a man. All brown and hairy.

I don't know why Doc didn't go back to his place, grab a camera and take the photo of those foot prints. If it were that important and significant, get your camera and go back and the take some photos.
This place, Hoyt Peak is very hard to get to. When this story happened, the road to that area was much rougher. It would take a good full day from the city to get to this mountain top
@@treasuresinamerica3076 ....but this is so significant, it would be worth the drive or have someone bring a camera. A foot print that fresh and so significantly important. Evidence is priority. It would have made huge news. Even have someone bring a video camera.So many opportunities to return to the actual site and document this significant evidence. Instead they let pass it by. I know it happened years ago, opportunity was not taken advantage. Too bad.
Times and people were different. My crew consists of cameramen and equipment. Every time we go up there, we are ready. We do that at every site we go to. Hopefully one day, we’ll be able to document it

P.S. I had my 44 mag saddle rifle aimed between his eyes one night. He was looking right into my soul. I put my rifle down, we walked over to our tuck, drove to Heber, spent the rest of the night in their Cafe parking lot. Went back at light. They destroyed camp the same way. But my teepee was left alone.

I think it's inaccurate to think no one has killed one and they gave not killed humans before. North America has three species of bears with varying degrees of risk to humans.

Some bears have been known to range over 30k kilometers in a year. It wouldn't surprise me if the same holds true for these creatures. Perhaps the young men did not consider that the recorded calls could have been from a rival population. Don't throw gang signs in the wrong hood Lol!

Where are the pics, shorly you have smart phones to take pics of the foot prints or the camp that was torn apart?
This story took place in the 1990s. Smartphones were not around at that time. Luckily I was able to interview Steve before he passed away. He told this story for many years and many people have reported that his story never changed. His miners working in the area called Steve and his partner Gale Rhoades the night it happen. Steve witnessed that campsite after the encounter but he wasn't prepared. Steve got the call in the early morning and drove a couple hours to get to the location. At that time, cameras were not as commonly carried around as the modern day today. If this happened in the present time, it would have been investigated much differently.

How many of the stories we hear are just different aspects of the same experience? If we can put those together maybe we’ll get somewhere. But I have been listening to these “stories” for a few years now and there are a couple I can identify as the same sighting from different aspects. Unfortunately I did not make note of them. Maybe somebody me included could start identifying these instances and catalog them.
