Exaggerating a bit, but people of this generation have Cardi B, soulless influencer culture, and people who don't even know how to live in the moment anymore, and as a result it seems harder to create great art in this era.

Outside of Russia there was Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. All of which were their own semi-autonomous soviet republics. The Soviet Union was the union of all of these separate SSR’s. That’s why it’s official name is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Well, when Putin became president in 2000 he changed the national anthem back to the Soviet Union anthem with a new text. Considering this it isn't much of a surprise that the Simpsons came up with this idea. Putin has constantly romanticized about the Soviet Union as well.

@@fudgepacker2858That's not why it fell apart. Economics doesn't lead to a state falling apart. It's a myth that it "fell apart". It was actually dissolved, because of its own leader Gorbachev. He was the one who removed the party monopoly and the power it had over the union. Without that the other republics were free to leave. His reforms softened everything up. USSR did a referendum if people wanted to keep the USSR and 77% voted yes but then hard-line communists staged a coup and it failed. Gorbachev lost influence as Yeltsin gained influence and it was he and the leaders of Belarus and Ukraine who signed a deal to break up the USSR. That's how it fell. The leaders wanted power for themselves and seized property for themselves which is where oligarchs came from. The economic collapse didn't stop in 1991, that was where it began and it ended in 1998 when Putin came to power and was able to save the russian economy. Yeltsin years of russia were not good. If it was economy, the USSR would've fallen in WW2 because their economy collapsed but they still continued as economic collapse is not the same as regime collapse. China did not emulate the reforms of Gorbachev because they saw that if the party gives up power, then it will lead to their own fall. North Korea is not doing great economically and yet still exists because to rule, you only need to have a revenue stream and keep the ruling class happy. You don't need a big economy to stay in power. This is why many dictators are popping up. Russia of today is 1/15th of the US economy while the USSR was 1/3 of the US economy. It doesn't mean Russia is collapsing and they are further away in competition than the USSR was but yet they are able to compete with less resources.

Cuba is still around and neither CIA or sanctions could bring them down. Gorbachev with his reforms brought down his own state. As the party was necessary for keeping it all together and he had taken away all their mechanisms away so they couldn't overthrow him. He opened things up and loosened control. This allowed opposition to exist and meant that the party could now be challenged. The story also doesn't work when you include asia, as china still has communist party in power. They had massive protests but there was no Chinese Gorbachev. Without one, they remained in power. CIA has dreams about destroying states but can't do so as it needs to be from the inside. Xi Jinping is aware that political reform leads to the end of their party in power so he will not do that. Economic reforms were only things they could do but Gorbachev did the same, the problem was he did reforms that gave more freedom and when you give freedom, people want more freedom. So the only way CCP remains in power is by denying freedom.

Clayj27 the Soviet Union consisted of many different nations outside of Russia. Outside of Russia there was Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. All of which were their own semi-autonomous soviet republics. The Soviet Union was the union of all of these separate SSR’s. That’s why it’s official name is the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

@Soul Studio exactly. What I see now more from the part of the West is a new rise of Russophobia - this time without the red scare, and a fetishization of and feigned empathy for Ukrainians, the new token white/European victim of an "Evil Country" (AKA Economic Rival to the US/"The West").
Other than those general points it's not in any way similar to the Soviet Union. The Russian as well as the Ukrainian oligarchy have nothing to do with Stalin let alone Lenin, and consider communism a "blind alley", like Putin had been quoted before. The only other comparable thing is imperialism, which the Russian Empire had before communism anyways, and wasn't invented with the Revolution, neither did it die after the USSR Fall. We can all see that NATO is an imperialistic force, the USA way more than Russia, and more deadly than any other, China is imperialistic too, etc. Not just those "filthy pinkie soviet commies" (read this in an cowboy accent), which "The West" still hasn't moved on from using as a boogeyman for justifying their delusions and desires of supremacy.

@@fudgepacker2858That's not why it fell apart. Economics doesn't lead to a state falling apart. It's a myth that it "fell apart". It was actually dissolved, because of its own leader Gorbachev. He was the one who removed the party monopoly and the power it had over the union. Without that the other republics were free to leave. His reforms softened everything up. USSR did a referendum if people wanted to keep the USSR and 77% voted yes but then hard-line communists staged a coup and it failed. Gorbachev lost influence as Yeltsin gained influence and it was he and the leaders of Belarus and Ukraine who signed a deal to break up the USSR. That's how it fell. The leaders wanted power for themselves and seized property for themselves which is where oligarchs came from. The economic collapse didn't stop in 1991, that was where it began and it ended in 1998 when Putin came to power and was able to save the russian economy. Yeltsin years of russia were not good.
If it was economy, the USSR would've fallen in WW2 because their economy collapsed but they still continued as economic collapse is not the same as regime collapse.
China did not emulate the reforms of Gorbachev because they saw that if the party gives up power, then it will lead to their own fall.
North Korea is not doing great economically and yet still exists because to rule, you only need to have a revenue stream and keep the ruling class happy. You don't need a big economy to stay in power. This is why many dictators are popping up.
Russia of today is 1/15th of the US economy while the USSR was 1/3 of the US economy. It doesn't mean Russia is collapsing and they are further away in competition than the USSR was but yet they are able to compete with less resources.

Cuba is still around and neither CIA or sanctions could bring them down.
Gorbachev with his reforms brought down his own state. As the party was necessary for keeping it all together and he had taken away all their mechanisms away so they couldn't overthrow him. He opened things up and loosened control. This allowed opposition to exist and meant that the party could now be challenged.

lol I think it's relevant yes but not because of Ukraine. The US used Ukraine as its golden cow and milked it dry. The people couldn't do anything because we installed a fascist regime using a color revolution in 2014.
