I use the same Bivy and love it. I use the sea to summit Light R left and rolled in with stakes. I am looking for a larger sack to accommodate my sleeping bag and insulator if it gets colder. But just the Bivy and sleeping pad fit perfect within the OR bag.
Let me know on my page if you want and I can let you know how it all turns out. It will basically be a new school of thinking on a military ranger roll but smaller and liter
Just a fun thought my brother calls them snack in a sack in grizzly country 😁
Yea, they're the burrito of the bear world.
Funny to say, but in reality a tent is no better 😂
@@adamintheoutdoors2119 true but the tent gives you a second or two before he gets a hold of you and maybe a shot off. With a Bivy he grabs you right off and it’s over
"Bearitto"
@@NatureSoundsandSights that’s even better
Thanks B Ryan on a thorough demo on a product category that many of us, especially newer DIY would be curious to know about and if it would be a viable option for their ever growing gear checklist.
I would actually have to get in one and see if I would get to clostrophobic or not. I could see that being handy for certain situations that you mentioned especially if you are in the High Country amongst where the Bighorn Rams 🐏, Mountain 🏔 Goats 🐐 or early archery 🏹 mule deer 🦌 would be and not want to go back down the mountain if you are amongst them.
This vs a tarp and hammock set up?
I have 3 OR bivis, been using them for years. awesome gear!
Good demo.
Exactly what I needed, thank you very much 🙏
Thinking about something like this as a potential place for my dog to sleep and to stow wet/dirty gear on the opposite end when tent camping ⛺
This was an outstanding demo thank you. Looking at the ascentshell alpine OR
Thank you Brian good info. I'm not sure if it was just the audio or what, but the fabric seems a little loud
What you are hearing is the sleeping pad. It's a Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Xlite. It's a really good pad but the material has a crinkle sound to it. The bivy itself is not nearly that loud. It actually has a nice feel to it. Hope that helps!
Wow, thought a bivi bag might be a good idea for my civilian camping trips. That thing is awesome, I’m going to buy one and use it at work lol
Great review! Better than OR own website!
Great review. What’s the width of your inflatable pad?
Does the mesh stop no see ums? Looking for a bivy for camping out in the Everglades.
The sound it makes tho!
I think you got him at the end lol
Every time I see these guys packing in a huge tent with a stove and all I just wonder what they could accomplish with a bivy and true lightweight gear. You can hunt run and gun and move with the animals rather than waiting for then to show up. I have a lightweight 2p tent at the moment that I carry with me every day, but as soon as the wife lets me... I'll be carrying one of these. Thanks for the vid!
They’re fucking hot
you should check out XMID 2p by Dan Durston
this thing looks better than the helium (that i have). It looks like they discontinued it?
Informative review thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Good review. Comprehensive!
You should review the canvas cutter dominatar 2.0
@GOHUNT And you say that you have had NO issues with breathability? I slept in an REI branded bivy a few times and it was difficult to breathe in. Granted.. it's structure didn't have what your bivy has in that if this "half dome-like" near the head, but the one I slept in also had two separate zipper layers( a solid and then the big mesh). It was easy to breathe with just the mesh zipped closed, but I was concerned with becoming soaked with rain on one particular night if I didn't have both layers zippered. Have you run into any of these issues or concerns with your bivy? Yours looks better designed than the one I used..
This is a great bivy. 👍😎🇨🇦
How’s the condensation I’ve found most I’ve had tend to get bag moisture in cold weather
I haven’t had issues with condensation and I’ve ran it in 35 degree weather.
go for the gortex, better breathability.. if its a one nighter go lighter as you ain't arsed if you get a little damp.. mind you, if you know its gonna be sunny the following day then you can dry out your bivi and sleep system in the sun. for me, all depends on how long you plan to stay out...
@@vespasian266 goretex is definitely less breathable but will be more waterproof.
Bring part of a pool noodle to create a second hoop from within, keeping the fabric from the body where wanted. Light weight, cheap. Enjoy.
What kind of weather can this thing handle? I live in Michigan and was curious if it could handle our savage weather.
It can handle just about any type of weather. It's just not going to be has comfortable as a tent. Very small restricted space compared to a tent. What a lot of guys do is also bring a light tarp to pair with the bivy just in case of bad storms you have some added shelter.
I've snow camped just fine in one of these. They really are great for lightweight trekking!
What pad are you using? I had a difficult time getting my pad in this bivy.
As long as you don't have a sensitive ass puncturable inflatable pad you can put it under. I have always put my iso mat under my USGI bivy live I was taught in the Marines. I currently use a Thermarest Ridgecrest classic and still use a USGI but had to replace mine and the market is flooded with knockoffs and back orders now.
This is my plan for hunting! Can we get more bivy hunting tips? Perhaps gear storage?
Did you ever buy one? Any issues with it or this style of tent?
Need these
Is it taller all around than the Alpine? I gave up on the alpine because I am too wide now and I compress my sleeping bag against it.
The Stargazer bivy is has the same width and height as the alpine.
What is the packed size ?
A bit larger than a soda can. 1 lb 2.5 oz
I want a full kit: bivy, pad, bag. I want it stupid quick to deploy that's packable on a touring bicycle. Any ideas out there? Stuff sacks are completely fine. Just need a solution that minimizes time and size.
I am also looking for a go-go-gadget solution that can breath well, handle biblical flooding rain and weigh less than 475 gramms.
i want a bivy with a lump on the side of it so i can store my bag on the inside next to me
That's a good idea!
It is loud?!
Nice idea but doesn’t look like there’s enough room for a sleeping bag lol.
i've had my bag wet, in the bottom.
I got rid of my Neo air because I got tire of the sound of sleeping on a bag of Doritos.
My dog would hate me if I used one of these
You laid in it without a pad or sleeping bag and it looked really tight, I can't imagine if you had a 2 inch pad and a down sleeping bag! Perhaps you would like to show that?!?
Pad was in there bro
@@drewcollins77 so was the sleeping bag
I don't get the appeal of a bivy. It looks like sleeping in a coffin to me. And it offers no privacy at all unless you are lying down. I'd love to hear how people who use bivys deal with these issues.
It's a place to sleep.. and it's a shell for your sleeping bag.. why do you need more room than that?
It is, and that's entirely why I love it. It's a place to sleep. Low profile, light weight. What privacy do you need, you're camping? It's you and nature. If anything, I love how much more close to nature I feel
@@TC-yx1qt Because I like to get out of the elements or away from insects without having to lie down. And I like to be able to change my clothing inside my tent. Also, I like to be able to use a pee bottle at night without having to put on shoes.
@@cloneorder6641 Why do you need privacy when camping? Well, depending on where you're camping, there might be other people around, duh!
I always use a bivy, but not this one
Except it sounds like a bag of potato chips being crushed every time you move. That is absolutely a no go for me, I need stealth. Other than that this would be cool if it was as water proof as the older USGI bivy.
Bivy is quiet lol that’s his sleeping pad
Dude looks like chuck norris
I pass it, this looks more like a pvc sarcophagus
it doesn’t look that warm
you shouldn't make comments that imply you have experience, you clearly don't. just make the demonstration and stick to facts that you know from action or experience.
Supercilious prick.
