On October 27, it was announced that U.S. Air Force F-15C/D Eagle fighter aircraft would be withdrawn from Kadena Air Base located in Okinawa, Japan, in 2023.
This marks the end of a 44-year continuous presence first established in 1979.
Some U.S. experts were quick to criticize Washington for this decision since the fighters countered China's growing influence in the region and increased combat capability.
But now it has now come to light that the Pentagon will be transferring a much more potent replacement.
In this video Defense Updates analyzes why US Air Force is deploying the F-22 Raptor in Okinawa, Japan ?

So far Russian and Chinese fighters have not lived up to their hype. Either have their defenses. Russia was not able to shot down F-16s with several tires, and S-400 units couldn't even see an F-35. The J-20 was reported to be visible with standard radar, and Ukraine is shooting down anything Russian that dares to go into the area. I doubt both the Russians and the Chinese want to know how badly it would turn out for them if they tried to go up against good fighters.
Keep believing the fake news it might come back to bite u in the ….. 😂
Specifically India's SU-30 MKI's detected the J-20's with their passive electronically scanning array. That radar type is the precursor to AESA and is no match. Most F-16s, F-15s and all F-22s & F-35s use AESA radar so the detection range would be farther out.

From Japan they can reach both China and Russia. Probably flying undetected and refuelled by a stealthy drone tanker.
China’s fighter jets thought they were gangster until the Raptor showed up.💯
The F22 has no infrared sensor. It is outdated and needs to retired.
@@AZ-hj8ym Who said? And if that’s the case, WHY are they deploying them, It is quite obvious that you are not as knowledgeable of the f22 systems. Let me put it this way: China WISHES the US would retire the f22. It’s more gangster than ANY fighter China or russia could ever imagine.
@@AZ-hj8ym Ridiculous statement and naive.
Considering what they have been testing the F-22 with Edwards Air Force Base, the pods and new job, wouldnt be surprised if they used this deployment to test those systems and tech in real conditions. The F-22 has been testing NGAD and China is eager to prove the J-20 so either way, it works out for the F-22
I hope we go a head and make directed energy weapons for our fighter jets.
@@galvinstanley3235 already happening
@@galvinstanley3235 new fission powerplants are being tested specifically for that reason sir and "others".
@@galvinstanley3235
Directed energy weapons already exist for fighters jets ,however fighters limited available power is the issue.
The aircraft need power supply able to sustain rapid firing without adversely affecting other systems
Its very easy to mount an external system on F-15, F-16 and F-18
Just look at the EA-18G
It normally has 3 ALQ-99 pods plus 2 external tanks
A Laser weapon would be the laser weapon on center station with the additional pods for power
An external system would good for fleet and area defense when stealth is not needed but as well protecting tankers, AWACS and other C4ISTAR aircraft from missiles like the R-37 and PL-21
The goal is system that can be used while the aircraft in stealth which as several advantages
Hence why a lot defense companies are working on ultra compact power generation technology
@@verdebusterAP It doesn't matter, the heat from a laser can't be hidden, the best things a laser can be used for is destroying things like missiles, and destroying things like radar for sam missiles,to make them useless.
It seems that now that the F22 is available to Japan, the US has a yet unveiled superior replacement for the F22/F35 jets. Anyone else think so?
If we go a head with making directed energy weapons for our new fighter,it will be atleast 2035 before we see something new.
The F22 will be stationed in Japan, not ‘available’ to Japan. There’s a difference. It’s 20 years old and still the best air superiority fighter out there, bar none.
@@galvinstanley3235 I'm not sure about that one sir. If you mean publicly acknowledged? ...yes.
As someone else pointed out these F-22s are being stationed in Japanese territory.. not flown by Japanese pilots..
Gen5+ fighters already being tested...
Excellent
We know now that Russian and Chinese aircraft are not what they try to say they are. They are not at the same level as ours.
F22 I thought they stopped making them
They did, but they still have about 180 in active service.
Bad ass plane
Or wait til the F-15EX become operational.
Last I heard, Japan was not only instrumental in the upgrades to the EX level, but EVEN BEYOND with some of THEIR OWN technological upgrades!
and stealth
All those weapon/unit numbers u throw at us I had better be a robot to 'get' their meaning liked anyway
Well in order to have 'overmatch' over the Russians in air conflict, F-35s are needed. But against China's J-20, the superior stealth of the F-22 drastically changes things.
America tried to encourage Russia not to attack Ukraine, and turned Ukraine into a porcupine, but not a muder-fortress. Russia went ahead anyways.
I think the USA (military brass & the white house) decided not to play around with pokerfaces and half-measures on this one. They probably intend to make any invasion attempted by China never get to the beaches. Not a porcupine, but a complete devastation of China's airforce and navy in the first 72 hours.
yep
It's just like when canada was denied reason to develop its own plane, the Avro Arrow. Let's hope that Japan getting Raptors doesn't result in Japan holding back on developing its own technology.
They aren't gifting F-22's to Japan. The United States is operating F-22 in Japan.
It's actually illegal to give them away. They're filled with proprietary technology.
The mere presence of F22s in Japan is communication from the US that the US shall fill the void of Japan's dated air force. The Raptors do not need to be given away in order to have influencing power over Japan's military agenda and budgeting. A similar thing happened with Canada's Avro Arrow.
The Japanese have already beat us out at our own game and made a FAR BETTER 15 than ANY 22 the Americans can ship over there to station!
@@skipsch HAH!! OUTDATED???
JAPAN HAS IT ALL OVER US ON AIR FRAMES ALREADY IN THE SKIES!!!
Anyone paying attention to military news lately will notice that Japan is or has been fully aware of its need to update its air force, so yes, within this context it is/has been lacking in relation to Chinese and Russian forces. If not, there wouldn't be a need for such military intervention at this time from US suppliers.
This news made me laugh out loud for real, more of a chuckle really 👍
Of course it made you laugh- because you couldn’t find the words to describe the a___whipping China or Russia WILL take if they encounter the f22. So I do understand your laughter. As a matter of fact, I was laughing at the carnage china’s paper airplanes will suffer. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

To hell?
We need to build more of these.
She's almost 30ys old we have something much better lurking around
@@reloadss4680 6th gen probably won't be here until atleast 2030 at the earliest.
To expensive.
Too late now. We should have built more 15 years ago. Now she’s decades old and the cost to bring the production line back up and time it would take would be hugely wasteful. Apparently we have a next gen fighter well into development, all resources need to go into that.
180 working models are enough, F35 will fill the job before NGAD can be operational.
Let's not forget that the F22 is 30 years old. It's past time for a plane that is a true dedicated air superiority fighter to replace it. I'm not knocking the F35 as I'm sure it's good at what it's designed to do, but let's be honest it's been compromised by being forced into a do everything multi-role plane
How old is the stinger handheld Man pad? It seems like you’re a guy who knows useless information.

Gee, I wonder why the US would need the world's best air superiority fighter 500 miles from mainland China. Hmm, curious.
As a detterence, duh. What would you think it F22s would used for?
Taiwan
Maybe Biden is offering the F22 to China for reverse engineering just like how he did by letting Iran capture and reverse engineer RQ-170 drone.
Marine Expeditionary Forces should deploy Their F 35B's on the smaller islands in the Region
Would be nice to get some use out of the B variant.. besides driving up the program cost and complexity for an overall inferior variant.
@@tkmmkt6569 Being able to deploy off Our Amphibious/Helo LHA, LHD, LPH, etc. surface combatants, will be an invaluable resource, as well as OLFs on remote islands. The only problem with Japan's F15 is that it needs updated radar and the AIM 260 to take on chinese fighters with PL15 missiles

It goes against the federal legislation on this matter, as well as it also goes against Japanese internal defense investment on top of that.

F 22 is master piece ,state of art ,there is no comment about it !!
They should keep the fighters on the mainland Japan so they don't get wiped out by ballistic and cruise missiles in a first wave attack.
Was thinking something similar myself. Wont the Chinese hit these bases in the first minutes? The planes won’t even be able to get off the ground.
You know mainland Japan isn't really protected by Ultraman right ? I'm pretty sure it would be targeted in a shooting war with China...
@@glamdring0007 mainland japan is out range of China's most numerous ballistic missiles while okinawa is more like taiwan being able to be hit with hundreds if not thousands of ballistic & cruise missiles .

F-22--F-35 combo has been unbeatable at Red Flag.
US and Japanese F-35s will be operating together with F-22s in and around Japan.
Japanese and American F-35Bs operating off Japanese and American F-35B carriers will eventually be part of the mix, too.
Longer term, an eventual squadron of B-21s in Australia would dramatically alter the balance of power even further in favor of Japan and the US.

I agree, but expect the anti-American nutters in Australia that think bending the knee to China is safer to protest any American deployment to their country. There are people living in Australia that think China will "leave them alone" forever if they just butt out of everything happening in SE Asia. You can't fix stupid.
chengdu ...the tofu dregs of aviation...as for lasers, well thats just gunna be a big surprise when shit hits fan...
The number of F-22 will be a factor. It can't be a large number as there are few F-22 in any case. I think it's more a message than a threat.
The F-22 meshes far better with the data sharing functions and features of the F-35 than the F-15, so this is more than just about adding only the F-22's themselves.
Usually limited to one or two squadron at most in these deployments. If my briefing was accurate this is another squadron of 12 that is deployed to Japan. There are several in overhaul/upgrade and the rest is thinly deployed around the hotspots and to defend the US.
@@anxietygamingactual6554 Hi AGA. Point taken. It's not a numbers business alone.
12 is already enough to strike China ships by the time Chinese jets strike Japans F15 will be waiting
America has more F22’s than most countries have fighter jets total. American perspectives on things are way off
Maybe there was more concern for the Us peoples opinions of cost. lol back than We've given $ and equipment away than keeping the f22 in production.or on long-term stand by Wonder if corruption of higher up gov. and business men was paid off to inflate production and maintains cost of the f22 because of blackmail honeypoted or greed .Or planted foreign people. Maybe the ones that cut military budgets and say there's no threat of a growing power so reduce our power to give their foreign gov. a leg up on the first stealth 6 gen. and still the best graund braking fighter on earth . It was abruptly stopped all production and .the production plants. like thay are afraid of spending our taxes on affecteve and groundbreaking US technologies and military equipment .18 billion in taxes and so much of our military ammo and equipment sent to the ex soviet unions center of Coldwar military production in Ukraine .And now we have depleted our mane ammo and equipment to dangerously low amont. All the ammo stockpiles and best affective equipment is on the blackmarket with only 30% of our ad and equipment going to the front lines. Now Ukraine and Afghanistan are more powerful than some bigger military. With modern military. So with the looming nuclear threat the big guy instigated to the possible brink of war and economic collapse . It's not l8ke we are afraid to and couldn't alford making more than180 f22 .out of the original plans to replace the 4th Gen fighter's .selling the older gen would covered a fat chunk of the cost. There was a different economy than was under control and better for making more.
I mean, isn't it obvious? While we hope it never happens, of all of our worldwide potential opponents, China is one of the most likely to result in conflict due in large part to their rampant expansionism in the region and threatening posture towards countries friendly to the U.S, and due to Xi Jinping making a big deal of being confrontational with the U.S. They are also increasingly the most militarily potent of our potential military adversaries. Until the NGAD program results in deployed aircraft, the F-22 is the best air superiority platform we have. It make sense to station your most capable hardware to counter your most capable potential opponent.
Nice! Now all the F22 needs is a helmet display and infrared targeting capabilities.
That's why it has a stealth irst pod. There is no room in the airframe to build that capability within like the f35.
some of that is in the F-22 upgrade
F-22 getting a helmet display ala F-35 is a nice to have feature...but in no way is the current setup inferior against J--20 or any Russian crap.
Don't count the F15 out. It has the availability to Get into Beast Mode
HELL YEAH BROTHER!!! TO THIS DAY, AIN'T ANOTHER BIRD IN THA SKY SHOT DOWN ANY VERSION OF THA 15 AND IT STILL HOLDS ITS OWN EVEN AGAINST OTHER USAF AND USN BIRDS IN TRIALS!!! (~_^)-b

F22 should not be deployed that far from America, big risk.
Sigh. It's not all of them lol
@@Omegatonboom we aren't exactly making more of them lol
@@HiddenAmericans We could though. It'll cost 18 billion to get lockheed back up to speed to pump them out again
Won’t they need the F15 EX for more firepower
Only a few f22 can take out all the radar. After that you could blow it up with anything u want.
The F-15EX makes more sense but they don't have enough
They can use older f-15 as well. They can be used as missle trucks intermixed with a combination of f-22 or f-35 fighters. They have talked about the combo before and the stealth fighters can protect these by escort in some situations.
@@verdebusterAP The EX is already in production, it is not gunna take too long to have a whole fleet of them on hand, seeing as the main tooling for them has been going on so long and backed by so many foreign customers, its not much of a matter of time. They are already rolling out of the factory and being assigned to new bases even now.
F-15s EX and F-16s and F-18s are just support aircraft for The F-35 and F-22.

Nope, you're not the first. Check the time stamp Jengdu 🤣
I would still bet on the f15
Especially the new f15ex
Just give Taiwan some nukes. Problem solved. Japan also
F15ex is an over cost bloated platform inferior to F-35 in 99% of mission scenarios. But for discussion sake lets say F-15ex vs what exactly ? Against F-22 and F-35 they stand no chance...against J-20, why risk pilots when platforms like F-22 and F-35 are available and much more survivable.
DAMN, what a mistake it was to stop production on these. Just think if we had 800 or so, with plenty of spare parts!!😬

Big mistake to stop production below at lest 250 aircraft. It would have given the u.s. the ability to fight two near peer opponents at once and replace losses.
