So far Russian and Chinese fighters have not lived up to their hype. Either have their defenses. Russia was not able to shot down F-16s with several tires, and S-400 units couldn't even see an F-35. The J-20 was reported to be visible with standard radar, and Ukraine is shooting down anything Russian that dares to go into the area. I doubt both the Russians and the Chinese want to know how badly it would turn out for them if they tried to go up against good fighters.

Specifically India's SU-30 MKI's detected the J-20's with their passive electronically scanning array. That radar type is the precursor to AESA and is no match. Most F-16s, F-15s and all F-22s & F-35s use AESA radar so the detection range would be farther out.

Directed energy weapons already exist for fighters jets ,however fighters limited available power is the issue.
The aircraft need power supply able to sustain rapid firing without adversely affecting other systems
Its very easy to mount an external system on F-15, F-16 and F-18
      Just look at the EA-18G
It normally has 3 ALQ-99 pods plus 2 external tanks
A Laser weapon would be the laser weapon on center station with the additional pods for power
An external system would good for fleet and area defense when stealth is not needed but as well protecting tankers, AWACS and other C4ISTAR aircraft from missiles like the R-37 and PL-21
The goal is system that can be used while the aircraft in stealth which as several advantages
Hence why a lot defense companies are working on ultra compact power generation technology

Well in order to have 'overmatch' over the Russians in air conflict, F-35s are needed. But against China's J-20, the superior stealth of the F-22 drastically changes things.
America tried to encourage Russia not to attack Ukraine, and turned Ukraine into a porcupine, but not a muder-fortress. Russia went ahead anyways.
I think the USA (military brass & the white house) decided not to play around with pokerfaces and half-measures on this one. They probably intend to make any invasion attempted by China never get to the beaches. Not a porcupine, but a complete devastation of China's airforce and navy in the first 72 hours.

Maybe the ones that cut military budgets and say there's no threat of a growing power so reduce our power to give their foreign gov. a leg up on the first stealth 6 gen. and still the best graund braking fighter on earth . It was abruptly stopped all production and .the production plants. like thay are afraid of spending our taxes on affecteve and groundbreaking US technologies and military equipment .18 billion in taxes and so much of our military ammo and equipment sent to the ex soviet unions center of Coldwar military production in Ukraine .And now we have depleted our mane ammo and equipment to dangerously low amont. All the ammo stockpiles and best affective equipment is on the blackmarket with only 30% of our ad and equipment going to the front lines. Now Ukraine and Afghanistan are more powerful than some bigger military. With modern military. So with the looming nuclear threat the big guy instigated to the possible brink of war and economic collapse . It's not l8ke we are afraid to and couldn't alford making more than180 f22 .out of the original plans to replace the 4th Gen fighter's .selling the older gen would covered a fat chunk of the cost. There was a different economy than was under control and better for making more.

F-15s EX and F-16s and F-18s are just support aircraft for The F-35 and F-22.

F15ex is an over cost bloated platform inferior to F-35 in 99% of mission scenarios. But for discussion sake lets say F-15ex vs what exactly ? Against F-22 and F-35 they stand no chance...against J-20, why risk pilots when platforms like F-22 and F-35 are available and much more survivable.

DAMN, what a mistake it was to stop production on these. Just think if we had 800 or so, with plenty of spare parts!!😬

Big mistake to stop production below at lest 250 aircraft. It would have given the u.s. the ability to fight two near peer opponents at once and replace losses.
