I had a massive miscommunication with my hairdresser a year ago and she ended up cutting off eight inches of my hair even though I told her I wanted to grow it out (it was only a little past collar bone length) so I haven’t had my hair cut in over a year. Ive been really nervous about getting a haircut so knowing what to ask totally helps me feel a bit more comfortable with it.
I have curly red hair too! I usually cut mine just above my shoulders every couple years once it starts getting long. It's short now but after seeing your hair I'm dying to get it growing long again. Also I am so terrible at wanting to use heat on my hair. You've inspired me to limit heat use to very rare occasions in hopes that my curls pattern will revive itself a bit.
This is so helpful and well timed! I’m heading to a regular hairdresser today for a big cut from bra strap length to a layered bob. Very big change for me so thanks for the tips! Your new cut looks gorgeous ❤️
It looks so beautiful! I loved it super long too tho. You're only 4 '11" !!! I get what you mean about being drowned by hair. I'm 5' 10" and feel like if I was to go too short it will look odd with me being so tall. The opposite problem...
I've just been butchered. Absolutely devastated. I asked if I could have a dry cut so I could wash and style it myself and they insisted that was wrong it should be cut wet. It's so much shorter once it was diffused. One side is also longer than the other
awwww!!! - Im so so sorry you are so hurt. I want you to know it's not your fault. I've had that happen many times. It seems that it's happening more now than ever in my life to the point that I stopped going to hair salons. I hope you feel better soon and figure out how to manage your hair to make you happy again. ✌🏽
Your curls are amazing (and you are gorgeous). I really appreciate the hairdresser recommendation as I’ve been looking for one in London forever. But it seems that Joleigh and the team have no availability for the next 12 months 😢 Can you recommend anyone else or do you know how to get an appointment sooner?
I do love the idea of a curl by curl cut, but I usually wait too long to get a haircut... so my hair is so long and the waves have all stretched out and cutting it dry probably wouldn't be of much use. Sometimes when I get it cut enough they spring back up. But the other thing is that my hair seems to curl differently every time I wash and style it. So I bet it would end up looking pretty random and wonky 😂😂 But one thing I think I'm gonna do is bring my new handy-dandy curly hair journal to show off to my hairdresser!! I'm so excited to get my first haircut after beginning this journey! It might be the same cut as always but at least then all my product and styling experimentations will be on hair that won't be so weighed down and stretched out by the length!
I hear ya girl! I also have the same color...because I pay to have it that color...and the same curl pattern. I guess that's why her videos are so important to me. And I love my coils at the bottom and back of my hair! I just wish they would contine to stay that curled a little further upwards...🤔🙄
Wow, so helpful thank you. I found your channel this last week and it's been so helpful! I've been putting off going to the hairdressers for a while now because I didn't know how to ask for what I wanted. This video literally answered all my questions. 😊
Yes I have ethnic cruly wavy hair and I cut it dry because I am able to see how it will be and length too. I cut it one ponytail down my center back I only Evey 6 months, one length blunt cut because I want this grow it out. Now I am prolonging it to a year with search and destroy method when needed. I cut my own hair since I was 13 years ago, I am 33 years old now. You look beautiful and great results 😍
I LOVE your hair. We have a very similar curl style, but your hair is a bit longer than mine. We even have the same color...when mine is freshly colored...lol. Your hair pics are what I am taking with me to get my trim. My curls have gotten very uneven in the back. I'm scared of layers, but I'm going to be brave and get one long layer and see how I like it. Thanks for all your videos! You're not only beautiful, but very helpful to me! 😊😍💚
I have experienced the “triangle” before lol looking back I’m horrified😂😂😂I always get layers now. My hair is slightly past my shoulders...the last time I got it cut tho, my hairdresser chopped off 4-5 inches when I only wanted a trim so I’ll have to be a lot more specific this time😩😩😩I used to get it cut every ~3 months but I’ve gone 9 months now haha I’m scared to go back🤣🤣🤣🤣thanks for the video, it encouraged me!!!😁
I gave up layers because it made my hair feel and look thinner/stringier/see-through. I've gotten a devcut and ouidad and both times the layering was too agressive. I'm scared to take the risk but it looks so good on your hair and mine is very similiar. Did you just ask for just a little bit of layering? How can I communicate to my curly stylist that I don't want thin feeling hair?
First, your hair is stunning! I have two daughters with curly hair, not quite as tight curled as yours, but I feel it could be tighter with the right cut. The problem with my one daughter’s hair is this strange pattern curl she has. Closer to the base of her scull there’s a straight kind of bend and it’s bulky then towards the end of the same section of hair it has a spiral curl shape that follows to the end of the section. I had them put layers in but it just didn’t seem to touch it. I was trying to get the spiral shape to go higher up with less weight and bulk. It’s kinda like you said with the triangle look. I paid about $85 to have it look no different. What am I doing wrong? Should I ask for more layers? She cut it wet as well. My daughter doesn’t do anything really with it. She likes it to be natural as possible. Can you help us?
Andrea Heisler I usually go with day 1 or day 2 hair. The hairdresser you visit will likely have certain requirements - some ask for the hair to be free of products and others ask to avoid styling with products that include butters and oils. Basically the stylist just wants to see your hair in its natural state, not weighed down with products and also not really tangled. Hope this helps!
hanzcurls I literally get so scared to ask for a specific haircut ahaha I get worried about what they think of me🤣🤣still next time I go will ask for it
Imjustheretowatch 123 Ahh it can feel awkward at first, so deffo take lots of pictures to help explain! At the end of the day, they wanna give you a cut you’re happy with!
I'm glad I seen this. I usually get a curly cut but they're few and far between in scotland, I'm disabled and it's a long painful journey by public transport. I took the plunge and booked an appt at a local salon but she started by saying did I want layers ? Yes please lots. OK what I'll do is razor cut it and thin it out for you she said 😳! I've heard that razors/thinning shears are bad for curly hair so now I'm totally nervous that it's going to ruin my hair. My appts wed snd I don't know if I should cancel it or just go in and say no I don't want you to use a razor (that's what it was, it wasn't even thinning shears she picked up to show me it was a razor. I'm having an anxiety attack thinking about it😨😭😭
L love what you do with your hair, i wish i had known how to do my hair when i was younger lol But i still used you style and advice. I get lots of compliments. Even my daughter Love what i do !
How do.you keep the curl from falling out when you touch it? I'll let mine air dry but when I try to put sections up it gets loose and curls fall out and freeze no matter how much curly products I put in it.
I think my hair is quite similar to yours but your clumps are better. My hair is fine but dense and wavy to curly in humid Florida where I live. I do highlight blonde every 3 months (bad I know but my natural color has become an ugly dishwater brown after pregnancy) and have been doing the Curly Girl method for 18 months. The mid-section of the back of my hair will not grow and is 3-4 inches shorter than the sides so the back of my hair looks like an inverted “V”. My hair dresser is baffled and has a couple other curly clients with the same problem. Please ask your hairdresser and help? Thanks in advance.
i am going for a haircut in the next two weeks i am glad i watched your video my hair is long pretty much one length went to a person in New YorkCity he cuts Diametrix haircutting wet was very expensive and i did not like the haircut.. i am going to a different person i googled like you said and i found a few good haircutters and i booked a appt.. i need a haircut really bad it needs layers but not overly short we shall see face frame for sure and layers thanks great video
I can’t find anyone who can cut my hair ... I went to a curly hair specialist who had a consultation with me and everything I paid tons of money and I walked out looking crazy bad. She even knew she messed up. I had no hair left on my head. It has taken two years and it’s still messed up.... now I have trust issues :(
Brielle Young Ahh I’m so sorry to hear this. I would have personally tried to ask if she could fix it, and if she couldn’t, then if I could have a refund. It’s so hard to find confidence in a hairdresser again when you have a bad cut, I’m really sorry 🙁
hanzcurls if you saw what she did to me you’d be scared too. I had almost no hair left !! But thank you it’s alright, maybe one day I’ll find a good hairdresser.
I have NOT had good luck with this and it stresses me out SO much. Curly salons are SO expensive, and the one time I did try it ....it wasn't anything special...overhyped and over priced...legit paid $150 for nothing but a thinned out hair cut
16:28 your what? I'm in the states but feel like I'm pretty good at British accents since I grew up watching BBC shows but I'm not certain what you're saying... you're ass-y side? LOL! Please correct me and I'm sorry in advance! Great video! It's really empowering to hear that you and how you ask for your hair to be cut. Excellent! I just cut a bit of length off myself. Biggest reason: waste of product! Second reason, I'm still growing out damage. And a tiny bit because yea, my arms are not long enough to get all the hair in a selfie!
I had a massive miscommunication with my hairdresser a year ago and she ended up cutting off eight inches of my hair even though I told her I wanted to grow it out (it was only a little past collar bone length) so I haven’t had my hair cut in over a year. Ugh that sucks! So sorry
The short hair is ridiculously cute. I need a cut ASAP
Perfect timing, I'm going to get mine cut tomorrow for first time since going curly - thank you!
Good luck!!

I just got a short cut and I love it! My hair is so bouncy and has much more volume. Definitely better for my curls
Ahh going to a regular hair salon (after last time with a tragic cut) so nervous thanks for all the help x
It looks so beautiful! I loved it super long too tho. You're only 4 '11" !!! I get what you mean about being drowned by hair. I'm 5' 10" and feel like if I was to go too short it will look odd with me being so tall. The opposite problem...
Do it!! I’m 5’9 and I just got a short cut, it looks super cute!
I'm 5"0 and have the same problem as her
I've just been butchered. Absolutely devastated. I asked if I could have a dry cut so I could wash and style it myself and they insisted that was wrong it should be cut wet. It's so much shorter once it was diffused. One side is also longer than the other

You described the cuts I get…I am so discouraged.

Your hair is beautiful - I'm glad you enjoy the curls instead of fighting them!

I love your hair so much!! We have the same color and curl pattern, but I can never make mine as defined and frizz free as yours
I hear ya girl! I also have the same color...because I pay to have it that color...and the same curl pattern. I guess that's why her videos are so important to me. And I love my coils at the bottom and back of my hair! I just wish they would contine to stay that curled a little further upwards...🤔🙄
How do you arrive to the salon, dry and with out products or styled with product?
Wow, so helpful thank you. I found your channel this last week and it's been so helpful!
I've been putting off going to the hairdressers for a while now because I didn't know how to ask for what I wanted. This video literally answered all my questions. 😊
Katie Adams I’m so glad the video was helpful and answered your questions! Good luck with your cut😘
Looking forward to a new routine!❤

Just tell them how you feel
This short cut is waaay better girl you look beautiful 💃
granger Aww thank you🧡
In the states, we call this a DevaCut and cosmetologist have to be certified in this cut. Love it!
Getting my hair cut today in the afternoon with a new hair stylist 😖Ive never met before and it is my first time getting layers I have 2a- 2b hair btw

I just want to say that I love your hair color❤️ I’m from India and to my eyes your hair color looks beautiful and unique! 😌
Thank you so much 🧡
Do you go into a cut with freshly styled hair or day 3-4 hair? Would that impact the cut?
Andrea Heisler I usually go with day 1 or day 2 hair. The hairdresser you visit will likely have certain requirements - some ask for the hair to be free of products and others ask to avoid styling with products that include butters and oils. Basically the stylist just wants to see your hair in its natural state, not weighed down with products and also not really tangled. Hope this helps!
It looks beautiful, really suits you 🤩
EMMA FOWLER Thank you🧡
What happens if I already have shoulder length hair? Like about the layers I’m not sure. Sometimes my hair does indeed look like a triangle 😭🤣🤣
Layers, still! They'd just need to be shorter than mine. I say go for it! It's only hair and it'll grow back 😘
hanzcurls I literally get so scared to ask for a specific haircut ahaha I get worried about what they think of me🤣🤣still next time I go will ask for it
Imjustheretowatch 123 Ahh it can feel awkward at first, so deffo take lots of pictures to help explain! At the end of the day, they wanna give you a cut you’re happy with!

I must be lucky, I've never had layers and my hair is butt length and I don't have triangle head xx
Kat's Krafty you are very lucky indeed 😍
looks absolutely fabulous!
Hello!,, which dry shampoo do you guys recommend?
Love the haircut, and the length!!!
What hair dryer fits with your black orchid diffuser?
How do.you keep the curl from falling out when you touch it? I'll let mine air dry but when I try to put sections up it gets loose and curls fall out and freeze no matter how much curly products I put in it.
In february I finally go to curly hairdresser but she cost like 50/60 euro’s. Is that bad?
I went to a curl specialist recently. she normally does it ok but must have been having a bad day. cut it in such an odd way and it's all uneven now 😔
This is so helpful! Thank you!!
You would look good with curly bangs
I think my hair is quite similar to yours but your clumps are better. My hair is fine but dense and wavy to curly in humid Florida where I live. Amber Band Thank you🧡
I love this length on you!!
Freckles Thank you🧡
I love the shorter hair so so much!
Thank you I need to hear that getting a cut every 6 months is ok
Now I want to cut my hair!!!😫😄
