Digging this channel. I just started training for an Ultra 50k and needed some new tips and tricks. I'm not new to running but new to training specifically for a big race.
You guys have a fun attitude and great "family" of presenters. This is one of the better videos I've seen on running technique, especially with regard to cues we can use to actually figure things out, as well as how to work form improvements into our running lifestyle. Thanks!
@@TheRunExperience I'd love you to try that with my English Springer Spaniel....lol Think i've only "Broken him" 3 times in the 5 years we've been together
Just found this channel and this video is great. I tried the POSE drills for about 15 weeks and made a huge difference, but need to reconnect and your way is fast simpler and less time consuming than heaps of drills, will give it try
I wear the Interval2 when I'm strength training, but happened to do a little of my speed work (on a treadmill) in them one time. I was surprised how much I loved running in them!
Very nicely summarized video on form! I’ve been trying to find these answers for a while now and when I should really focus and how should I go about changing or improving the run form, and you’ve answered all my questions! Thanks so much for an amazing video! Keep it up! :) shout out from Michigan, USA!
So informative, been using your tips since i started running last Aug.2019.Can you have an extensive strength training video for flat footed, structurally over pronated runners like me?what shoes to wear and proper techniques on cadence and strides?big thanks Nate.Run Experience rocks!
Loving the new titles. Still out with an ankle injury and the lack of running is now starting to do my head in. After watching this I think my form has changed from last year and I recovered this year. Will get the ankle recovered and look at this again. Keep up the good work 👍
I started running on and off 45 years ago. More off than on. I’d run a few months, my knees would start to hurt, and I’d stop. No UA-cam back then. It’s taken me this long to learn a bit about good form. Thanks, BTW. Went for a walk/run a few days ago. Felt pretty good. My question, I wasn’t very achy the next day but what can I learn from aches? Where should I ache? Where should I not? How much should I ache?
Very subtle mistakes I could be making...this video brings it all together to be more mindful-great clear visuals makes it easy to understand👍👍 As always, Thanks TRE and Nora + Nate = Happy team🐾🌻🎈
Guys it is amazing...coach Nora looks like she is back and in good shape!!! :-) Thanks...it is so lovely to watch how she is listening like she is really undresting the meaning of those words :-)
Nate and Holly - Years of running/walking off shin pain the first 1.5 miles, two mornings ago I *burned* through 5 miles with NO pain!! (I never raced, just ran for stress. Took up that pre-dawn run 5x/wk again a year ago, esp love winter runs. That first 20 min was *always* hell, but when the pain went away I could run forever. Never thought of the all-body mechanics and had to correct so many form issues. Watched most of your channel and now, wow, I CAN RUN!!!)
@@TheRunExperience So glad to find your channel! Running was just something to work off stress before, and I liked it enough to keep going back to it, but now I love it :-)
Listen to Nate at 2:35! If you switch something up in your running form arbitrarily without fully understanding why, you WILL be trading one problem for another! I thought it was a good idea to start landing more on my forefoot. Got away with it for about 4 months without much issue. Then on a run I got tremendous pain on the inside of both feet within a mile. Ended up being some buried muscle in my calves that wrapped around my ankle into my foot. Took 7 months for me to get back to running without pain. Be smart people!
Thank you for the great content! This channel helps tremendously, and I love the hip forward reminders. Great tips, keep it up! Always nice to see Nora!

I was on that pier a few months ago... it’s sad how much it’s fallen into disrepair. They have sections taped off because the concrete is falling into the bay
Training for my first half marathon and as soon as I went +30 miles/week, I noticed debilitating pain in my left hip. Took time off and started again pain came back after 10-15 miles/week. Took another break and now it comes back after a mile of jogging however when I do sprint training 40-100 meters, no pain and feels more natural. Any thoughts on this? Been trying hip mobilization drills and such. Any help would be amazing, thank you for all the content!!
Hey! Love you all. Especially coach Nate!! 1 do you guys use Starva? 2 Can i be your number 2 fan because i seriously been one for a while and now im running for poly and still love you all!!
First video I've seen acknowledge the use of low profile shoes for training/technique and the use of more padded shoes for other runs. Do you have a breakdown on when to use each? Why wouldn't you continue with the low profiles all the time? Just finished reading "Even with your shoes on" and (spoiler), almost as an aside to not alienate any readers, she waits to advocate minimal/no shoes at the end of the book. Thoughts?
Hi first off I'm not a runner, more into lifting weights and an odd run on treadmill, but very rare lol, so I'd really like to learn how to walk better or even carry myself better, I just no alot is out of wak with me, I get knee hip pain, and heal, I have quite wide flat feet my pinky toe gets pinched in trainers, so I need wide fit shoes, not tall only 5ft 7" and about 11stone, and at a stage now where I just don't know what trainers can suit my feet eg go for a lower drop maybe 4mm or zero, just can't get the comfort in an everyday shoe,Thanks.
I was running using the chi method and now I’m noticing when I pick up he pace my left hip hurts like hell so now I have to do the stand tall method is that a good or bad idea?
Does it make sense that the first run I changed from heel strike to proper strike I got pain in my calves for a few days? (Was on a treadmill at 4.5mph for 20 minutes)
Nate here. The book I originally read 15+ years ago was on Chi Running. I've dug thru Pose. But also been inspired by Born to Run as well as more classic run advice from the running greats!
Congrats that's great! Even the best runners out there are thoughtful about their form and are aware of their "tells", i.e. when they get fatigued what starts to break down for them. Could be erratic breathing, or shoulders that start to shrug upwards, or an arm swing that starts to get a little stiff. Suffice to say it's rare that any of us score a "perfect" score here...but the performance mindset is to always to see what you can do better...
Everyone I know who’s a runner get to their 40-50’s they are unable to continue from knee problems and so on... How do you run for a life time or as long as possible so as age come you don’t have to stop?
Hey Caleb! We have a ton of runners in our Training Club who are 40, 50, 60+ and running fast and pain-free. We believe the difference is looking at your training from a broader athletic viewpoint and really focusing on strength training and mobility work along with your running, as opposed to only going after a ton of mileage each week. For example, a lot of knee pain can be fixed by strengthening your glutes and having a consistent foam rolling routine on your IT band and quads!
Hey there! If you type "calves" into the search bar on the homepage of our channel, you'll find a number of videos with tips for strength and mobility exercises for your lower legs. Here's Coach Nate's most recent calf video to get you started! ua-cam.com/video/WT1arUtkm5A/v-deo.html
Flat feet should be strengthened by walking around barefoot as much as possible and slowly working your way out of cushioned shoes. Check out this video for some ideas how to strengthen your feet ua-cam.com/video/VejcHFlruKo/v-deo.html
I only run 8 miles on average a week now. If I cut that by 50% for 4-6 weeks I'm afraid it will take me weeks to get back to running even just 8 miles a week.
I need to change my facial form so I dont like I'm holding back a sneeze in all my race photos. Not that I want an excuse to pay $15 per digital print.
It’s “Go Farther.” NOT “Go Further.” Further is metaphorical, descriptive. FARther is actual distance! Other than that nitpicking nonsense, great video!!
further, furthest, farther, farthest - 'All these words can be used for literal distance: farther/further down the corridor, Who can jump the farthest/furthest? Only further, not farther, can be used in the abstract sense: closed until further notice; was further annoyed by a second intrusion; and only further can be used as a verb: to further your chances. Farthest and furthest are synonyms: the subject farthest/furthest removed from my comprehension. Many careful writers choose farther and farthest for the literal sense, but it is not wrong to use further and furthest throughout.' ~ Longman Guide to English Usage
As a doctor, I cant think of a worse cardio exercise. You are destroying your joints, compressing your spine etc. It feels good today, bc youre young. Wait until youre 60. Runners have a shorter life expectancy than smokers. There are SO MANY better cardio exercises that dont destroy your body. Love your body. Its a gift. Peace
Recommendations on how I can find a coach irl? I'm 38, a bit overweight and sedentary at work. Prone to shin splints that always undercut my progress each time I get excited about a new running program. I need a detective on the case! heh I live in Bangkok, Thailand
Hi I'm about your age and just run for 2y. I have some suggestions about shin splints: 1. run on flat road. never run on uphill/downhill (you're not ready yet I assume) 2. slow down a bit. you probably run too fast. investing in some running watch is good idea or just get an an apps for smart phone (strava/sportractive etc..) 3. increase your mileage about 10% weekly Shin splints is a big problem when I start running and btw I'm your neighbor (Malaysia) haha
