    Work that’s not done right intentionally should 100% always be called out. That’s really the best way for someone to learn what not to do. Keep up the honest hard work my brother 💪🏻

      In this business...there's almost no reputable truck shops. I know that because almost every single job I come across has already had some other painter in there and they've nearly always done a lousy job. Thanks a lot!

      Accidental poor workmanship can happen and is quite forgivable. Heck...that's how I learned almost all of my lessons over the decades was doing it wrong...by simply not knowing better... at one time or another and coming to regret it.
      But that's not what I ever seem to run into. What we see around here time and time again is short cuts and lazy work ethic that were performed by shops that were charging a fortune. Thanks a lot!

    It's great to see that you take a lot of pride in your work. The trouble with a lot of people today, is that they just don't care about good standards of workmanship. I'm a tradesman myself and when I started in the workplace many years ago, it could be quite cruel at times because iff you were sloppy in your work method or attitude ,the old school would come down on you like a ton of bricks. I like that you called them out. I paid a company $10k to do my Peterbilt and they had the truck for three months. I got it back and the paint was peeling around the rivets. They took it back to fix it and put me on the back burner. I couldn’t use it for work and they gave me a bill for the extra work which I had to fight with them over because it should been done for the price I was quoted in the first place after they took the truck in for an evaluation before giving me the price. I had a budget and I told them look at it first and make sure you can do it for the price you quote. I drove it 2 hours to their shop so they could evaluate it. They said we would be an extra $2k. I said ok but anything more and I can’t do it . When it was all said and done, they tried to charge me double because they had to paint it twice. I told him that’s not my problem. You should’ve did it right the first time. I’m in construction I don’t get to charge my customers twice for the same job if I screwed up. Keep up the good videos man !

    • @teams.t.e.a.m6214
      @teams.t.e.a.m6214  8 місяців тому +2

      I called this owner as soon as I figured out just how extensive this job was set to be and changed the price by only a few thousand dollars. The pressure washer alone was twice that much. Sometimes you step right in it in this business...and when that happens, you just gotta take it on the chin. One thing I never do is take it out on the customer. Takes a lot of nerve for a shop to charge you to repaint something they screwed up to begin with. Like I've said for decades now.... Show me 100 truck painters...And I'll show you 99 crooks! Thanks a lot, My friend!

I just don't choose to do it over the internet. Heck...I was an undefeated cage fighter for a full decade in the earlier 2000s. While still running this business. I agree with your stance on calling out shoddy work. Making mistakes in any professional field is essentially inevitable, when that happens though there is a moral obligation to fix the situation at no burden to the customer. And they don’t happen repeatedly.
    I work construction and the things I see contractors pull is frankly appalling. The customer is the one feeding your family, so you as the contractor have a duty to do the right thing by them.
    I can’t help but feel you are one of the increasingly rare honest painters that actually value their work and care about doing it right. Most of those guys are retiring or have just been run out by the low-rent outfits.
    That truck just reeks of gross incompetence or blatant neglectful practices by the last painter, either way they don’t have business painting so much as a mailbox.

      I originally bid this one for 15 grand...which is typical for an average sleeper truck around here. I raised the price to 17 after I figured out what we were in for...but I only did it that way because the guy had already brought the truck to me from over 7 hours away and my pressure washer had already destroyed the appearance of the passenger side by then. So I took it easy on him due to those circumstances. If I had known from the beginning how it was going to go...I would have bid it in the 20 grand range. Thanks a lot!

    That hinge on the cab next to the hood is for swinging out the air filter canister so you can change the air filter. Otherwise the mirror brackets are in the way. I know this from experience I had a 2001 W9 also Kenworth has the metal parts like those hinges in stainless steel.

  • @johnduncan9749
    @johnduncan9749 8 місяців тому +1

    The hinge is there so you can replace the air filters because the mirror bracket is in the way. You cannot take the top of the breather off because there is not enough clearance, but you can take off the two bolts and nuts opposite the hinge and the air tubes and the whole breather will swing out.

      Well...you can always do some scrolling through my back log of videos, because I've covered the how to's on bodywork in more than a few of them. Even as recently as within the last half dozen or so videos...I go over how to fix dents, doing fiberglass repairs, and even masking. Thanks!

    Love your work!
    This is exactly the reason you have to be really knowledgeable when buying a used truck. So many a-holes out there ripping off hard working people.
    When ever you go to buy a used truck and looks really shiny and new, that is a huge red flag!!!
    You really need to educate yourself when looking at a used truck or take someone along with you.
    Never get your hopes up or get exited when looking at a nice shiny used truck.
    If it’s too good to be true………
    Why did you not use paint stripper for the entire truck after seeing this nightmare?
    Keep up your good work!

    • @teams.t.e.a.m6214
      @teams.t.e.a.m6214  5 місяців тому

      Thanks a lot! I didn't need to use stripper once I was down to factory paint. Besides, stripper shouldn't be used on anything fiberglass...so that means it never would have been stripped completely anyway. Thanks again!

    That spot on the back of the sleeper where you said they burned through the paint and painted over it I think is probably where they were carrying their spare tire and it was rubbing against the sleeper right through all the paint and then they just painted over it without sanding it out. I have seen that many many times.

    So far I watched up to the pressure washing part and paused. He may go into it in detail, I’m not sure, but you have to be careful sanding around rivets. It is always a good idea to get a gallon or two of etching primer. You can hit a lot of spots that were not able to be reaching by sanding. We all know door, hood, and trunk jambs are the most neglected with prep work. Personally, I’ve failed to prep the tops of larger trucks the most.

    • @teams.t.e.a.m6214
      @teams.t.e.a.m6214  3 місяці тому

      As is on display in nearly every video I've made, our rivet prep is thoughtful and extensive. I've even done a tutorial section on the details of scratching rivets as well as other tight spots on semis in a fairly recent video (within the last 6 months). In a quarter century, we've never had a single truck come back to us because our prep was incomplete and caused a paint failure. You wanna see how to painstakingly and properly prep a semi for paint? You're in the right spot! Thanks for your input!

    Beautiful in Black!! Here's a question for you though. Please don't take this as me being a troll because I assure you I am not. If that truck came back in 3 months, would you be willing to wash it with that new pressure washer at the same distance you did before. I'm just curious. Thanks for the content, I love watching it because what you do is something I would never have the patience for lol. I'll stick to trucking and count on guys like you for the paint work!!

      @teams.t.e.a.m6214  5 місяців тому

      No...I wouldn't even wash a factory painted vehicle like that. I was purposely trying to get the paint to come off of this truck. However...a person can get paint to come up off of anything with a pressure washer like mine. Thanks a lot!

    Looks good... There are far to many people that don't care. The only thing they care about is getting paid.
    The people that whine because you call out someones crappy work are part of the problem in the world today.
    They don't want to hurt someones feelings or offend them. Remember, everyones a winner in 2024...
    Why would anyone actually pay for a job that was that crappy. You don't even have to be a painter to know
    that the job sucked when the panel behind the drivers door has 2 inch runs hanging off the rivets.
    I've never seen runs like that before. That gives a new meaning to hosing it on...
    You would see it every time you got in the truck. I would have lost it if that was my truck and I went to pick
    it up after being painted. Unfortunately for the owner of the truck, they could see the runs, but they had no idea
    what kind of mess was underneath all of that old paint, and it literally was a mess.
    Ironically I drove truck for 40 years, and I've also done a lot of painting. I've painted several show cars,
    my race cars, and I spent about a year painting multi-million dollar motor homes. You spray a ridiculous amount
    of material painting those things and I can honestly say I never had a run of any size spraying all of that B/C material.

      And while I have never had a run on a domestic vehicle...I have had a few from rivets myself. It's just part of the learning process and besides...I know how to color sand them out . So it's no harm done when it happens. To create a bunch of them and just leave them, however, is unacceptable. Thanks a lot for your input!

    • @teams.t.e.a.m6214
      @teams.t.e.a.m6214  8 місяців тому

      I'll admit that it looks bigger in pictures and video than it does when you are actually standing in it. I built that part of the shop myself well over 12 years ago with materials I got in trade for a large amount of paintwork. Got the property it sits on in a trade as well! When I started this business almost 25 years ago...I was renting shop space from crook after crook and didn't have a pot to piss in... so I had to be creative when it came to getting set up and independent. It is 30 X 63 with 16 foot sidewalls and 12 X 16 doors. Basically perfect for what I do. There is an addition built on either side (also built by us a few years after the original shop was) of the room you are used to seeing that triple the outside dimensions though. Thanks!
