I was addicted to my gameboy colour when I was little. I was always with it when ever me and my folks went anywhere. I think I did at least 20+ runs of Pokemon red and blue back in the day. Such good memories! I remember when we needed a usb light to be able to play into late ours into the night. Thank goodness for back lights in our days. :)
I liked this video a lot, but there were some errors.
The Game & Watch line lasted until 1991, not 1986.
Tetris's creator is Alexey Pajitnov.
Zapetroid 2 very minor errors in a 15min completely independently funded, researched and produced documentary. Not bad.
@@awesomefaceprod Oh, definitely! Still a stellar job, don't get me wrong.
As a little sister, the gameboy series was my favorite console. The major consoles I shared with my big brother who was better because he was older there for took too long to "die" so I can have a turn. We had our own gameboys, so I'd just play Mario Land and kirby and not have to wait.
Niece: uncle, have you ever had these small phones?
Me': Yes I know what a Gameboy is, I was there when it came out
Top tier production + narration
Dewd these videos are like prime time documentaries by that I mean they look and sound professionally done. Great video Matt 👍👍
The Gameboy came out way before the Game Gear, Turbo Express and Atari Lynx. Your video makes it seem like they were all released around the same time.
0:22 oh gawd
I grew up playing Game Boy (along with the NES, SNES, Genesis, Game Gear, etc). I loved the thing. I had link cables and worm lights for days. Eventually got a Game Boy Color, which I liked just as much, maybe a bit more since it was a Pokemon Gold edition GBC. Eventually got a GBA, then a GBA SP. Never did get a GB Pocket, Light, or Micro though.
I gotta say, there's nothing quite like those early Game Boy and Game Boy Color days. When you could be walking around and see other people playing their Game Boys. Bunch of people having basic colors, but then sometimes you'd see someone with a special edition or something and you'd have to go check it out. Or you could find people just out and about ready to trade or battle Pokemon. We still have that to a certain extent with smart phones, but, it's not the same, especially when a modern smart phone is almost a full blown computer at this point. It almost feels like comparing carrying a Game Console around to carrying a Laptop around. Even if that Laptop can play Game Boy games, it's just not the same.
But, those days were a lot more social, with no online gaming so people had to actually be in the same room to play together with split screen and stuff. We still had Arcades all over the place. Not that today's not social with everyone having the entire internet in their pocket. But again, it's not the same. It's a different kind of social. Everything just feels so impersonal now days. Everything back then was more analogue and physical. You had a big chonky handheld game console with a physical contrast wheel. You had chonky physical game cartridges you had to put in and swap out all the time. Your save games weren't just saved in a cloud somewhere, they were saved onto the actual cartridge. Multiplayer required physically connecting two consoles together with a bulky cable. You couldn't even see the screen half the time without attaching a physical light to the thing. Cartridges have to be cleaned from time to time, along with the cartridge slot on the console. External controllers were ALL wired. Everything just felt a lot more interconnected and physical. Nowadays, everything's wireless, everyone's anonymous, you don't even have to be on the same side of the planet to play multiplayer with someone.
It was because of Game Boy that Pokemon (which is one of my favourite game franchise) became the best franchise.
imagine telling Nintendo not to release their new console with Mario. Dude is a legend
Well, neither did the GBA, or the GameCube (Unless you count Luigi's Mansion), or the DS, or the Wii, or the 3DS, or the Wii U, or the Switch...
Your statement is very easily falling apart.
ive been watching you since oot 3d and your content is better than ever
I had an advance with clip on light and rechargeable battery the thing never broke always worked had a case for safe storage as well since the 4 way multi player splitter and games didn't fit in pockets very well.
I still have the original GameBoy from 1989. Older than my age. It is still functional, but the display has been damaged. It was gifted to me by one of my neighbors, and he got it from one of his cousins. It holds sentimental value and I'm still looking for a display for it.
The Game Boy walked so that the DS could run so that the Switch could fly.
Do more of "The History Of" Series. Please.
I still love my gray brick 😁👍

12:40 I was so glad to hear it finally had a Backlight but never got one.
Is there going to be another part to the Zelda documentary really like your videos favorite Zelda UA-camr
Nintendo invented robocop? That’s a total mind screw.
Before Gameboy Nintendo handheld successor now Nintendo switch and it's still reigning
I just bought a original gameboy and this video was great
Happy 34 Anniversary to the original Nintendo Game Boy. One day, I want to compare the original Game Boy, Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance.
Thanks.
Awesome video
There is a small error in this video, worth noting that the Gameboy Pocket accepts AAA batteries, not AA.
Game boy Color was the bee’s knees
Yes
Good old black and green games never played better. Lots of cool games are the only thing saving this blurry dark, over-priced portable. How a about a portable NES?
Gold and silver? Havent seen a gold
solid
i'm playing with a gameboy while watching this video
I have the pocket
They shouldn’t have assumed girls wouldn’t like Mario
Zelda: “am I a joke to you”
Gameboy pocket has a bigger screen than the OG brick and GBA foo
