hi Chuck, greetings from the UK. firstly would like to thank you for posting free content on UA-cam I find your method of instruction both consise and informative. Secondly I would like to point out what an inspiration you have been to me, like yourself I have fractured two cervical vertebra C3 and C4, unlike you they are not fuesed but I do suffer restricted movement. What you have achieved following your injury is nothing short of miraculous. Learning your story gave me the confidence to start playing golf once more and in two years I have gone from a 22 handicap to 10 and still striving for more. I once more look forward to the weekends and teeing it up with the lads. I no longer play rugby but that might be because I'm 58! Once again Chuck thank you for your content.
Chuck, your advice here is gold! When I first started playing golf my swing was fluid, powerful but a bit wild so I went down the rabbit hole of lessons and instructional videos. Your concept of keeping things flowing in the same direction has brought back the fluidity to my swing and my love of golf. Many thanks, cheers Chris
You hit on something big with this. My whole life is have applied everything I learned to a two direction swing. That's why everything failed. Now I see the swing as going in one direction. And, it allows much more time to develop more speed.
Your visual Clock, one direction method is what clicked it for me. So easy to understand and implement. Many talk about shallowing the club but never seen it explained as you did. So great!
Chuck i have been watching your videos for years and i was always skeptical of your 2 inch shoulder movement, i even tried it but after many failed attempts i simply gave up and continued my path towards golf purgartory. AMG recently put out a video that showcased your ideals and once again proved "Chuck is right". i think your teachings are spot on but conceptually i couldn't process it in my mind but now with some 3d captures i have renewed faith in your teachings.
I came across the 3 Tour Pro video and watch it, at the time I was taking lessons and was trying to figure out how to execute what my instructor was trying to get across to me. The way he showed mE was by moving my hands to the positions me wanted me in at certain point in the swing. But the way YOU EXPLAINED GOT ME TOO WHERE SHOWED ME MY HANDS SHOULD BE!! SO I TRIED IT AND I WENT FROM THE COMMON TO PRO DISTANCE. IT WORKED!!! THAT IS WHY I BELIEVE YOU MAY HAVE SAVED GOLF!!! I AM GOING TO FIND OUT HOW TO NOMINATE YOU FOR GOLFS MAN OF THE YEAR!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY AS A GOLFER!! THANK YO!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
Really like the idea that it’s not two separate rotation movements. Need to try it when out next but seems like it could make my swing more fluid and athletic. I definitely have tended to stand up but not only did I not know how to solve it but honestly never knew it was a problem that needed to be solved - the amateurs vs pros clips show it so well.

Chuck, you nailed it with the DEAD drill and REF; the desired flattening a consequence of the axis tilt whilst "sitting into the left side". So what's all this "Count Yogi" stuff? Are we back to gimmicks for purposes of marketing? The "old stuff" worked perfectly for me. I'm not going to force "flattening" with contrived actions or ruin what I now have by pursuing some new "magic"?
No dabbling for me. You're original advice works great. Thank you for that. I'll get on with playing golf with what worked for me and hopefully avoid spoiling that with unnecessary tinkering. If its not broken .....
Years of mistakes, bye Felicia. Thank you, practice for 2hrs a day minus course days, this has fixed everything I needed to work on. Tracing the clock now. I will straight up fly to your house and wash your car. Thank you!!!!!!
The big picture goals the golf swing are 1) Start in balance, 2) Be in balance during the takeaway, 3) Be in balance at the top of the swing when club changes direction; 4) Be in body/club force balance through impact when the club force whips the club around the hands; 5) Be in balance when club pulls right arm straight, and; 6) Be in balance at in the finish. The subconscious brain learns balance via intuition in infancy to keep us upright. A beginning golfer’s subconscious brain does things like pronating and swing club too far inside in the takeaway and bending elbows and whipping club around left in the finish as intuitive strategies for staying in balance, why every beginner says they grip and swing as they do because “It feels right”. It is only when they CONSCIOUSLY accept what feels right to them is not putting the club head mass and face on a path to come back down and release the ball straight AND are willing to repeat drills to break the old reflexive patterns for balance they will begin to swing the club on a well balanced path by simply by understanding how to anticipant when and where in the swing the club force is going to pull them off balance and the strategies and techniques needed to prevent it. I find the the best way to start is showing a beginner how a pro golfer’s body and club are positioned as the ball flies off the face straight at the target. Hips “stuck” open at 45° because back heel being down stopped them, spine bent toward ball with SIDE BEND (a technique unknown to them) with hands past the ball club lagging behind hands and club face square to target. I then have them set up at address with club face even with the front of the ball and square to target there (not the back of the ball) explaining how it takes time for the ball to compress and release so face actually needs to be a bit open when it hits the back of the ball (a fact previously unknown). I have them hold the club in only their left hand then bend their right arm 90° and have them tuck it in over the right hip and tell them to grip the club without removing elbow from hip. The only way to do that of course is with SIDE BEND. It takes most 2-3 times before they their brains start doing it reflexively with hips parallel to target. But I remind them at impact the pros have their hips “stuck” at 45° explaining that action is what triggers the club to whip around the hands like an unbelted passenger in a car crash goes through the window. From the top of the swing, hips 45° closed position I have them come down with the newly learned side bend move telling them to keep back foot down on the ground until feeling the hips being forces to stop turning when reaching 45° (another new concept for their conscious brain to accept as “feeling right”) that is the point their conscious brain grasps what a pro level golf swing is supposed to feel like: front hip 45° open feeling like it just hit a wall, spine in side bend, hands well past ball with club head lagging. I’ve taught a lot of things and studied the psychology behind how people of different temperaments learn. When learning any new skill the conscious brain needs to accept the new concept is valid and better to the way their intuition solved the problems and then do boring repetitive drills (the function of golf instruction) to reprogram their sub-conscious reflexes to do it the new way. It is a real challenge in golf the way it is typically taught because they just can’t grasp what the goal underlying the “do it this way - it works” style of instruction which is the norm in education because it is the most efficient way to transmit knowledge, lining up the ducks in a row - grip, stance, swing - and getting them “quacking in unison” hoping they get the big picture of the exercise. Showing them where a pro is at impact and forcing their body into it (reluctantly) gives them the big picture. It takes about 30 minutes during which their chronic slice disappears, replaced with a smile on their face and they say, “You mean it really that easy?” It is once one learns to find balance at address and maintain it during the entire swing.
I would term this movement of hands/wrists/arms to be continually changing ... rather than one direction. This movement optimally outlines a loop shape - with the back swing side of the loop being steeper, and the downswing side shallower. I find the "one direction" idea a bit confusing/misleading.
It's the timing of the forward movement of the hips that's important, not the fact he does it. He's extending his hips at the correct time. Not early like amateurs who have early extension when their hips move way too much towards the ball early in the swing. Forward extension of the hips is necessary for power. Pro players do it at different times in the swing but never too early when they're swinging well
@@notatarget3216 most of the PGA tour are unsporty dudes by traditional standards. And they all get into the same general position at impact. And they all extend their hips at the correct time when they push into the ground coming into impact. Power does not come from "Quick muscle action". Whatever that's supposed to mean. It comes from a variety of things and most speed comes from the release of lag in the swing which is a force multiplier.
