he'll have to beat Charles first, which I highly doubt tbf. Yes Lewis has had some good teammates but he also has never dominated any of them bar Bottas and Kovalainen. Button narrowly outscored him, he narrowly beat Nico and lost one won another vs George.

@@daarom3472 You went toe to toe with Alonso which is quite a benchmark. And he beat Nico for 3 out of 4 seasons together. In fact it was Nico who narrowly beat him by 5 points in 2016. Every other season Lewis beat Nico by at least 61 points or better except for 2013 which he beat Nico by 18 points.
I feel like even if he doesn’t win in Ferrari it’s still the prestigious team to be on because of its legacy even if they aren’t currently the best
He’s had a great career. Win or lose, just driving for Ferrari will be the icing on the cake.

I think part of the reason that Lewis and Alonso retain that fire is because they have not married or had children. They dont have those real responsibilities pulling at their heart like a family which will definitely change your priorities and even your risk tolerance.

When nando brought his race engineer from ferrari to mclaren he fitted in well, so much so that he stayed with them and over the years got promoted to now being there team principal. So if Stella can do it, I'm sure bono will move across with Lewis and who knows were it will lead too

Fernando’s achievements at Aston Martin showed without any doubt what he can do when given a superior car. As much as I love vettel there was a bit of a decline at the end, you had the same feeling for Alonso but oh boy did he prove me wrong in 2023 - just a joy to watch…

Ferrari is too much of an Allure for any driver to resist, so it's understandable that Lewis decided to end his F1 career with Ferrari. It's a devastating loss for Mercedes. To understand Lewis' decision one could argue that 2024 Mercedes is not to Lewis liking of which he's been persisting Mercedes to make certain changes. So, it could be about Engineers v/s The Driver decision.
Also, lewis knows fred vasseur from his GP2 days. He raced for Fred’s ART GP when he was a mclaren junior
He loved Ayrton Senna, he loved Nikki Lauda, Ayrton wanted to but never got to drive for Ferrari, Lauda talked to him about his legacy, driving for the 3 main teams. Lewis is going because he had a chance to go, he was never turning Ferrari down.

I can't believe Lewis really has that much more faith in Ferrari than in Mercedes. Even if you disregard his legacy with Merc and the general lackluster performance of Ferrari, going from a British team to an Italian team is a big change in culture, and with all the politics at Maranello in mind, it's really going to a shitstorm behind the scenes with Charles and Lewis trying to dominate each other on and off track.

Mercedes is based in England, but they’re actually a German team because they’re driving under a German license.
When Hamilton (or Russell) wins a race, first the British national anthem is played for him, then the German national anthem for the team.
When Verstappen wins, the Dutch national anthem is played and then the Austrian one, while the team is based in England.
Lewis & Charles are Vastly different drivers he’s the goat I hardly think Ferrari would go thru the trouble of signing him if they weren’t prepared to make a few changes to make a 7x World Champion/the most marketable driver on the planet feel at home

34:29 Charles knew about the deal, they've been buddying up to each other for quite a while now. Charles definitely is not shocked about this. Also, nobody cares if Lewis can't speak Italian! I'm sure he will try but ultimately the engineers will have to work to his strengths.

How people can even compare Alonso's Ferrari 'failure' to Vettel's is beyond me. With all due respect, Seb drove the fastest car into the wall in Hockenheim. Fernando made the 5th fastest car on the grid a title contender in one of the greatest individual seasons of all time. No comparison here, not even close. I'm sorry.
I remember when Lewis left McLaren to go to Mercedes I thought it was a massive mistake. How wrong was I. I'm thinking the same leaving Mercedes to go to Ferrari probably be wrong again. The only thing is that if I was in Lewis's shoes Ferrari have not won anything for a long time . Even Fernando and Seb vettle couldn't turn things around for the team or themselves so I'm not convinced Lewis will get that 8th title with Ferrari assuming he don't get it this year.

As it was raining. And he was pushing to make up for the team leaving him behind Raikkonen on old tyres earlier even though that would ruin the strategy. I'm sure Vettel would have loved the Ferrari Alonso had, even the bad ones compared to the hybrid crap. Vettel made some mistakes, as did Hamilton in 2018. Ferrari also let him down by not listening to him, and their development fell apart mid season, while Merc made big gains once they understood rear tyre wear after Spa. And I'm paraphrasing Mark Hughes, respected journalist, who made the point of how difficult Ferrari made life for Vettel.
The relative performance of cars isn't static circuit to circuit. They all have different strengths and weaknesses as drivers do. The rumor is that Ferrari had to turn down their ERS in 2018 after Lauda got the FIA t investigate them.

exactly HAM was 1 second off at the end despite being disqualified still a hell of a drive in the US and if he and George were swapped at Singapore I believe he would have won that race
I see this a little differently. I think for Lewis, he now probably has a rough idea of when he'll retire. I think this is partly a bucket list move and partly something Ferrari have been able to demonstrate for '26. Then, there's the chance to try to build the team around you when it comes to development, tactics and that whole leadership type thing a champion enjoys taking on.
Plus, at Ferrari, there's always a number one driver, and I think, he believes he can take on Charles head to head and come out on top, thereby taking that lead role.
Max has that at RB. I wonder if Hamilton thinks that's required to beat him. You know, Mercedes ignored him with the wheelbase Vs cockpit position thing with the zero pod concept. It could be as simple as Ferrari saying : A. We have a good PU for 26, and B: we'll do whatever it is to give you what you need on chassis side.
At worst, he ticks off his bucket list before retiring. He's not afraid to go to a team that needs a bit of work either it seems. He better learn good Italian quick though. 😂
It's true, but there's more than that. It's a very big marketing plan. Lewis Hamilton is a brand, combine that with Ferrari brand is very big, and marketing it to a younger and (I know this is a dirty word for some people) more diverse generation. The stock price reaction shows it.

33 is a wonderful driver... and that is where it stops for me. I was crazy about the youngsters, and my wife and I called them the babies. Unfortunately the "ways and and character" of the RB team put our family in a space of now seeing what a counter model they are... its a pity... AND its Lewis' current €450 000 000 two year pay day speaks VOLUMES of raw talent, tenacity, driving genius, GREAT sportsmanship, very high IQ, phenomenal EQ, and exceptional brand value says it all...

It is absolutely shocking but I am getting so much goosebumps in dreaming of Lewis winning the 8th championship with Mercedes in 2024 and then leaving them. It would be a farewell like no other. I am still believing that James Allison's W15 will be a strong contender for the championship this season. Lewis winning 8th with Mercedes and 9th with Ferrari is what I am dreaming of now. Let's have our fingers crossed and see this 2024 season to finality.

In the GOAT discussion the only way for Hamilton to convincingly be listed above Schumacher is by winning a championship with Ferrari. I believe this is the main reason. Then he can be on top of every possible evaluation - whether stat driven or emotion driven.
Hamilton is already statistically above Schumacher and he didn’t even need to cheat to achieve his accomplishments
Hamilton has way better stats than Schumacher already. 105 wins is insane. Plus let's be honest, Lewis won 2021, the race director just decided to break the rules to give the championship to Max after Lewis obliterated Max in the final 5 races.

alex clearly doesn't want to be a second driver again. hes doing well w williams atm and they are pretty set on being a contending team again. makes more sense if alex wants to stay and build up with williams
Albon will be #1 driver..... at RB (Visa Cash App RB) with Liam in the 2nd car in 2025. Albon has a 3yr offer from RB ✌ Now THAT will be a great pairing. And the new car will be much better than the AT was with full new bosses/ high technical employees added to the team 👌
Yeah I agree Lewis has moved on due to the constant underperformance from Mercedes but let's not forget the amount of times the team made the wrong decision when it came to orders from the team with pitstops etc

i can understand your point that more an opportunity than an hard work on fred itself, but that's a group of elements, including the presence of vasseur, who made the final call, since lewis and fred knows each other for a long while, and lewis probably wanted a team principal who gives more credits to its feedback.@@gealingeman8643

The right move for Lewis was to Ferrari. I was expecting this move 3 years ago but it seems the timing was right now. There are so many factors if we want to analyze in length about Lewis' decision. I think it was a straightforward decision. Lewis wants to win with Ferrari before ending his career. He has accomplished everything that an F1 driver could dream of. This a mega excitement for him and F1.

Lewis Hamilton reminds me of John Sutrees even though their both 7 time world champions despite the fact , that Surtees won on both 2 and 4 wheels having most of his wins on 2. It's amazing how a British driver is racing for an Italian team. I wonder what Enzo Ferrari thinks of that.

I am utterly gutted that Sainz will not be racing in a Ferrari from 2025. I hope he wins the championship with them this year, and gets a really good and competitive car for 2025 onwards.

You can tell Lewis is the last of the oldskool drivers, he knows F1 history (Like Vettel) and you cannot be called the Goat until you drive Ferrari and come out with a WDC.

It's gonna be funny watching Sky Sports Mercedes F1 now gradually shifting their obsession with Mercedes to Ferrari just because Lewis is gonna be driving for them. Their whole coverage just functions as a Lewis Hamilton cheerleading cast.
