So if you download the game you can’t play it till you purchase the key to open it. The Xbox will refer you to the store.
But it’s useful if you have a game pre-Ordered or if you plan on getting it the next day or later on in the week.
It’s not super useful unless you plan on getting the game soon.

To everyone confused, yes you can download multiple games for "free" the only problem is you don't have the license to play them games. You can get the license via disk or digital format the feature is just useful if you're getting a new game the next day and don't want to wait for downloads.
I remember when this feature was glitched and you could get free games

Its not really. It helps with saving some time. So lets say, I don't get paid until the 24th of march, I want to buy hogwarts legacy, well I can begin installing in so once the games bought I can play instantly. That is a far from pointless feature mate

If you have a scratched disc that will install a little bit and recognize the game use this and the disc will work for your console

I was just trying to figure out if I could do this because my sister messed up my disc my pulling my Xbox onto the ground. That’s why I searched for this video. Thank you for verifying this, however I think I still need to get home for it to work because I’m assuming that it can’t sense my Xbox which is why I can’t do it right now.
All of you are interpreting the video wrong what he’s trying to show you is that you can download the game before you buy it so when you buy it you can play it without having to wait to install it kinda like a pre released game before it comes out you can download it so you can play it when it comes out

One of my favorite features on Xbox.
I order a physical game, hit download in the app and by the time game arrives I already have it installed.
I can insert the disk and start playing immediately.

I think what most people messed about this feature is you can purchase games that are backwards compatible but listed as unavailable on console store.
This is the best feature of the Xbox app I'm so happy Xbox allows this

Genuinely the best feature ever. My Brother in law uses an uncapped connection since he's into software development. I asked him to pick up my Xbox and connect it...then I just downloaded my games on the app😅

This is actually a really great feature. They should allow anybody to do this for real like directly from your Xbox because it wouldn’t incentivize people to buy it

I gound out I can do this like 6 months after I got an Xbox One, right around the time I got a Series X too. So now whenever I'm sure I'm going to buy a game, I start downloading it immediately after I purchase it, so by the time I get hom it will be done (or at least decently installed if I'm at my local GameStop).

But what about the Xbox 360 games that released earlier than 2009? I saw games without showing the background of “Play Game” of the actual video game, and didn’t become eligible to purchase on the actual console with a disc.
I got Black Ops 3 and it worked by a glitch which lets you play even though you get errors, but it doesn't work anymore and you could play offline because of errors inside the game.
I thought this was more widely known…

I still don't understand the purpose of this. I tried this a couple of years ago, and to even install the game via your phone... the Xbox has to be turned on.... at that point why even use the phone? It just sounds dumb: ok I'm gonna install games from my phone onto my xbox but wait I need to turn the Xbox on first

I discovered this after returning to Xbox since the 360. I bought Minecraft on 360 so it made sense that once I got a series X all I would have to do is redownload it. Nope. After I did this and downloaded it to my console it told me I had to buy the game again.
