Great advice. I would recommend, as you did, try them outside in the daylight. If you try to select them inside, the color difference will change with the kind of light you are using them under. Incandescent will be more brown tones, florescent will give green tones, LED will be different depending on which color spectrum they will be in.

Hi Rodger . Other than physical protection for your eyes ,glasses for shotgun shooting are there to provide contrast and highlight the colour of the clays against backgrounds of dirt , grass trees etc and the sky . As there are many variation in colour perception between individual shooters and even individual eyes , you need to select the best lens colours for yourself , not what everyone else uses . I had an optician who was very interested in helping shooters . He had a selection of different coloured discs for the customer to look through , and he spray painted an orange clay on a power pole 30 meters down the road from his front door , he wrote a small official looking number and some letters under it and no one ever removed it !! One could stand on the pavement with a selection of discs to find out what works best . He also said that eyes adjust with time to different colors and auto correct , this is why , if you wear red glasses all day , everything seems green for a while when you take them off . So he advise to maximize the effect to take them off when not shooting .
looking at your hat one can see how the orange stands out against the blue . Cheers Dunc

Good video, Roger. It always surprises me how many shooters don’t have a good set of glasses/lenses made specifically for the sport. The cheaper ones will work, but having a good set with all of the different color lenses like this is critical for anyone wanting to take the game seriously and can make a world difference. I also like to use blinders with mine. It cuts down on the light entering your eyes from the sides which helps a lot as far as keeping your eyes adjusted to the lens color as well as overall distraction while shooting.
    Happy shooting and take care

Hi Roger, hope you are well.
I personally have only ever used beretta purple shooting glasses. They fit me well and have very good clarity, with added benefit of highlighting clays and killing greens/bright backgrounds. To me fit and clarity is everything. The people who swear by a set of 1000$ pillas act like without them you are blind. I tested a friends pillas and mine back to back and shot the same. Pick what fits and suits your sight the best

Thanks Roger. I tried the Beretta purple and liked how the clay lit up. I can run an experiment such as this without the prescription so I may get some prescription lenses in this color. Ordinarily I shoot in my Serengeti Drivers sunglasses which are close in color to bronze.

I use Decot Hy-Wyd’s and you can actually send them your prescription info online when you order and they will make custom lenses for you based on your prescription. Not sure if Ranger or any other brands do the same though

Another excellent video. I’ve been clay shooting for about 20 years and I need to buy a new better set. Glasses have come a long way since I started. I just need to stop being so cheap.

hello, i am a trap shooter. I live in a third world country where I don't have access to ''try and select'' feature to help me select my preferred lenses. all glasses are imported so people here cannot try the lenses before buying
I REQUEST YOU to kindly make a video showing the bird through your lenses in the broad sunlight so that people like me can be helped on investing big amount of money on correct lenses

A bit pointless presentation as camera is set up to auto adjust color. The only way to judge if there is any use is to borrow and try live on the range, or if not doing clay but other targets, try it there.
