    If people are still talking about anything after 50 years then ‘it’ wasn’t overrated.

      If it IS 50 years, then anyone throwing around the word "overrated" on it is certainly intimidated by the 50 years. Egos hate giants bigger than them

    Thanks for the shout out Stripey, much appreciated🙏🏻. Fair play to the author to get in touch. He's still wrong, though 😂😂. I saw the 50th anniversary release at the cinema, and I couldn't believe how quickly the film went by, plus Bruce looked even quicker. I came away thinking that a 50 year old movie was one of the best I had ever seen in the cinema.Definitely not plodding. Thanks again Stripey, excellent video..

    I watched enter the dragon for the for the umpteenth times since I was a teenager, I’m now 63 years old. I appreciate this movie now more than ever. I never looked at it through an analytical lens, but the more that I do that the better the movie becomes to me anyway.

    I didn’t comment on the original video, the guy got my back up. I bet that guy saw ETD and THEN went back and watched Fist of Fury, Big Boss etc like a lot of us. To make out he was waiting around for GOD is daft. Anyway Stripey main reason for commenting, one thing in ETD that has always bugged me is when Bruce gets up to answer the door to see May Ling. she says ‘where do you come from?’ Then there is a really bad cut and they are next talking on the settee. I wonder if the bit in between exists anywhere? Always wondered. Early congrats on the family extending and best wishes to you all

    Nice one Stripey this has been an interesting debate. At age 10 when released ETD was the film I most wanted to see but couldn't! Age 15 I did on a double bill with Death Race 2000. Seen it many times since in the cinema inc a packed one off IMAX showing ( seriously ) in Auckland New Zealand in 2010, on VHS, dvd and blu ray dozens of times. Saw the recent anniversary release with my 34 year old son which was a great moment. Significant and culturally defining. ETD never disappoints 😊

    For me ETD is his masterpiece and a perfect film for his last appearance. But Way of the Dragon shows more of Bruce and he expresses his boundless energy and more fight scenes make it probably more exciting if you just want to see Bruce. But I remember after watching the Chinese Connection in 73 a week later a friend told me he died and it’s on the news. So my bother and I ran into his house and watched the news. They showed the cave scene where he takes off the top of his black jumpsuit and in slow mo takes out the three guys and my brother and I could see that since the Chinese Connection he had improved vastly. And he looked like a master at his peak.

    The words ''Test of time'' come to mind with ETD (and all Bruce's films). I saw ETD in England when it first came out at the age of 13/14 Yes! Even though it was an 18 rating. I got to see it many, many times throughout the 70's until it was no longer shown at cinemas. I also got to see most of the great kung fu films of the time back then. I was literally a spectator child of this golden era of kung fu films. What I'm getting at is; time is test of greatness in films. And many other things.

    ETD by itself hasn't an original storyboard, but the action especially in the cavern sequences was highly modern even for 1973, and the film did open the flood gates for other action stars whether asian or not.

    Hi Stripey I hope your good. What some forget is ETD was an international picture made by Warner Bros and Bruce Lee's own company Concord. Bruce understood from the get go that Warners wanted it to be a western version what a martial arts film should look like. Bruce Lee was having none of it. He fought for many changes to be made to the script and just to make sure everyone knew it was a Bruce Lee film, he added the opening Shaolin temple sequence himself. Bruce understood the cultural problems the film script created and tried to work hard with producer Fred Weintraub on finding the right balance that would keep kung fu film fans happy and those who had never seen a martial arts film just happy to see something very different. It is not a pure chinese martial arts film. With the technical problems the film encountered during its production its a wonder how it actually got completed. Everyone involved believed in the picture and wanted it to be great. Now onto Bob Clouse. Bruce lee liked a film called ' Darker than amber' which Clouse had directed. It contains a very realistic fight sequence in the film and it also starred Ahna Capri who played Tania in ETD. Bruce was impressed with the film and chose Robert to direct ETD. Bruce might have even wanted Ahan Capri as well. Bob Clouse made it no secret that he was hard of hearing and wore hearing aids. He mentions this in his book ' The making of enter the dragon' and you can see in the set photos that Bob Clouse is indeed wearing hearing aids. He did have a script assitant on set to make sure that any dialogue was being said correctly in case he misheard what was being said. Bruce stopped filming GOD because he was being offered the chance to make a dream come true picture - one that would give him top billing in an international motion picture. In the end it was all worth it. Enter the dragon strikes the right balance between east meets west. Its a fantastic action film.

    Great video mate totally agree that the martial's scene wouldn't be as big as it is without this film ,I love ETD got "like you say " every release that has come out in the last 30 years , me personally i dont call it a kung fu film as it has more of a mix of martial arts in it apart from Bruce Lee & his kung fu skills but I do call it an epic martial arts movie .now for me fist of fury I call my favourite kung fu film of all time as it's the first one I watched at the tender age of 7 & im 50 this year & even though it is still mixed with the Japanese and Chinese fighting styles to me its kung fu all the way baby 👊 & as a massive Bruce Lee fan & big collector I do love ETD but it's my least watched Bruce film fist of fury for me every day ..God bless stripey have a good one pal .....love the mirror picture..you could call it .picture perfect. 🐉☯️🙏

    I'm a "Way of the Dragon" guy lol That was his best in my opinion. To me that is THE Bruce Lee movie with him in total control and i feel "Game of Death" would have been even better since he got more experience and was going to showcase not only his full martial arts capacity but his philosophy as well. Wish he lived to finish it.

  • @klavier1us
    @klavier1us 3 місяці тому

    The irony here is that is that part of the criticism is that ETD stunted the growth and or completion of GoD. Most people would strongly suspect that if Lee lived beyond the release of ETD, Game would likely never have been finished. Bruce didn’t want to stay in Asia and he would have had what he most wanted- a reluctant Hollywood prostrated at his feet trying to coax him into making their film with barrels of money. Game would have been back burnered at best.

    Hey Stripey and hope u are doing well. I want to comment on your BL comments from other people and I have one and hope u can clarify something to me. In the box set of the anniversary of ETD where u first see the deleted scenes back in the 90’s and in it was a tape, soundtrack, a small colorful pages about the movie, lobby cards and a hologram of a pic of BL posing. What I want to talk about in that book there was a scene where BL, JS and JK was coming off the boat and Tania greeting them with welcome and in the photo it shows all 3 turning their heads cuz Bolo attacked one of the men who was taking the bags and after that is when u see Bolo looking angry at them. Now in the book it say here is a photo that was a deleted scene and can u please tell me was that ever in the movie. Again hope u doing well and always love your information and keep showing.

    I know it's a bit late commentig on this video! Still I'd like to tell why I think that ETD is a bit overrated. First of all, Hollywood was too scared to give BL the whole movie. Adding two other major characters is, to me, way too much. Lee, as a character, is quite undeveloped, Roper and Williams come off better. The movie has the real problem that Robert Clouse has never been a first class director and it shows in ETD, unfortunately. Revenge is a strong, if not the strongest motive in HK movies. Lee's sister commits suicide because of Han's men, especially O'hara, so with have established the revenge thread. Fastforward: Lee kills O'hara ... AND THE MAN NEVER LEARNS THE REASON FOR HIS DEATH!!! That could have been done better. Other things that are sloppily done: Han introduces Roper to his daughters ... daddy's trusted bodyguards. WOW, what an army of goodlooking helpers when needed! But, to our amazement, the ladies never show up again. Another thread in the story that leads nowhere. Han invites men to the tournamant who might want to join his organization, OK, got it. Roper is knees deep in debts, Williams is black and might be considered an addtion to the crew. But Lee???? Why should a renegade Shaolin invite a true warrior of the temple? He couldn't be so stupid to think that he can get Lee to switch sides. The movie, IMHO, suffers from sticking too close the established James Bond routine. The whole thing is a blatant Dr. No imitation and so suffers a bit from lack of originality. There are other things that bother me but I don't want to bore you. I love watching ALL of Bruce Lee's movies but my least favorite is ETD (I'm leaving out the GOD 1978 travesty). To me, his best finished movie is FIST, my sentimental favorite is THE BIG BOSS. Lee's first movie ... he is so full of youthful energy, so dynamic ... it's just a joy to watch!!! All the best to you and all your followers and greetings from Vienna/Austria. Peter

    Hi Stripey........EtD is one if not the best martial art films going,if you think that without this film (yes they were other BL films before this one) then we would not have had the influx of martial art films after this and still going as well,also worth a mention is had BL not died (yes we have all have too at one point) we would not had all those awfully so bad but good tribute films (I say tribute but more like cash in films on his popularity) which was more laughable imo.
    I saw this at the cinema on it's 1973 release (with the dreaded BBFC cuts made to it boooooo) and then on video but saw it on a format that was prehistoric called BETAMAX 😯😁 most of this country (UK) were watching films on VHS and then I turned to the dark side and went onto VHS as fewer films were being released on Betamax (even though the Beta format was far superior in quality over VHS but that is for another time) and came out of the cinema doing BL actions LOL (someone once said that films do not influence people rubbish of course they do) and if it had not been for BL I would not have seeked out all the other non BL films (shame as I could have saved a fortune at the cinema and on video) but anyway nice comments video Stripey (not released on Betamax though Hahahahahaha ) and long may you continue and apologies for my ramble as I have been known to go on a bit.

  • @davidtaylor2152
    @davidtaylor2152 3 місяці тому

    The ETD HK version is a completely different movie in the sense of the script and seems more intelligible, and BL did help with an asian dialogue for audience sensibilities, and Lee did know his audience quite well.

  • @Grandmastergav86
    @Grandmastergav86 3 місяці тому

    I've watched over 400 Fu movies in my time. Not sure I'd say it was the most overrated, it's the one remains popular with Normies because of it's relative accessibility - Western plot progression, Westernised Production, shot in English (though not sync sound, not Bruce's or Shih Kien's real voice etc). Is it in my top 10? not a chance! 50? Probably not and likely not even in my top 100 but it is an important film. I take far greater exception to Jet Li's popularity if I'm being honest and that's because I understand how action movies are made and the extent to which he's been doubled over the course of his career (don't get me wrong, everyone is stunt doubled including Jackie, Sammo, Bruce etc) but with Jet - it's outright egregious and always has been.

      Oh, brother. Which sort of "grittiness" does Enter the Dragon supposedly LACK?
      "Glossy" sure as hell isn't a word which can be accurately applied to the film -

    Enter the Dragon is monumentally entertaining. Great story, great actors, all which matters most.
    If we're going to compare the production values to modern movies, then it's a bit lackluster.
    But do we think it matters? No, not to me. It doesn't matter.
    The parts which indeed matter most matter specifically because Bruce Lee was involved - for example, he personaly choreographed every fight scene.

      Moreover, that movie has made many multiple times the amount of money spent to produce the movie, well beyond a factor of 20.
      Only a handful of movies produced decades ago exist which still command large audiences in this day and age, least of all a low budget flick which in reality barely got made. It was quite miraculous that it was made to completion, especially given the huge problems encountered, one of which was hiring a stupid lack luster director. It of course has the character of a B class film, not a blockbuster style film, because that's exactly what it is -
      a B class film which nevertheless enjoyed monumental success.
      If Enter the Dragon were released again today, theaters would be packed for weeks, or even months.
      But if "Laurence of Arabia" were released again these days, then theaters would be packed for just a few days.
