C FOS GREAT JOB MAN! LOOK KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND TRUST YOUR WORK THINGS ARE GOING TO TURN AROUND FOR YOU!!!!!!!!😮 GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY! MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Such an incredible individual. I had the personal experience of meeting CB when my basketball fraternity invited him to join. Being from the north (NYC) I hadn’t experienced southern segregation. We were all thrilled that he accepted to join our frat only to find out from the head order at University of Virginia for Kappa Sigma wouldn’t allow Blacks in the fraternity.Ironically historically Charlottesville was founded by the founder of democracy Thomas Jefferson. It was a very sad thing to tell him that. I was ashamed and sickened. He had such dignity.
Awesome story. Pretty unrelated but my dad was the point guard for Ralph Sampson at Harrisonburg HS in Virginia. He told me disgusting stories of fans being racist, but Ralph always shook it off and used his skill to shut them up. My dad told me that Ralph was a really quiet guy, but whenever the fans were disrespectful, he saw a change in Ralph’s demeanor and he took over the game. Unrelated, but thought I’d share!
CB great to hear you speak about your experiences at Duke!!! I had no idea you were from Danville VA. I am actually from Clarksville VA. I have been to many Halifax and GW games thru the years and all of them were great games ! God Bless and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!! GO DUKE!!!!!
Great interview BUT Bear Bryant had John McKay bring University of Southern California around 1969 or so to Tuscaloosa and beat Alabama so bad he asked for and was allowed to integrate the football team!!
Great interview but left a lot on the table. These are the types of stories they’re trying to bury. I see another group tried to hijack the struggle. I’m not surprised. #Never forget
There was a lot to cover, and they hit on a wide range of topics--so there was going to be a lot of meat on the bone. You'd have to do a mini series to cover most of what you're referring to. I did look back at Pete Maravich's career and he did in fact play at Southwood College after Broughton HS. Essentially, this was what we'd call a post grad experience like Fork Union or Hargrave Military Academy. Maravich's team played Duke twice (ie their freshman team) and lost to them both times.
Best podcast ever I love this…
Thank you for the insightful interview Caleb. Always good to hear the history.
