    Love this!❤️ The thing I’m learning about encaustic is to keep going. Often times I thing I’ve totally messed up, but I keep going and end up with something amazing. Again, you have inspired me.

    I notice you use the butane torch sometimes and a heat gun other times. Is it necessary to use the butane torch? Love the end result!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  4 роки тому +1

      Hi ASMRLucretia ,Thank you! Yes, I do trade back and forth. It is never necessary to use the torch if you are not comfortable with it. It is sometimes much easier on larger pieces. On pieces involving paper and other delicate or highly flammable items I always use a heat gun so that I don't burn them. Otherwise it is just a matter of preference :)

    Hi, very interesting! Do you know what you are going to get at the end? How do you know when to stop putting layers? You used some paper with numbers and letters so you had some idea at the beginning? Or your creation depends on the moods and feels?

    Love the look of the ink. Bought some alcohol ink to experiment with and just found that it dried so quickly that it sat in a blob on the surface and would not flow or adhere to the wax. Should I be asking for a particular brand that works best. I am in B.C. on the west coast of Canada. Thanks, love all your videos.

      Lynda Lombardi Thanks so much Lynda!
      I use Ranger Adirondack alcohol inks most of the time. I will leave a link of a craft store that carries it online.
      In order to get it to flow , I incise a mark in the wax for the ink to flow into.
      In order to get it to adhere to the wax , I have to fuse it usually with a torch.
      Hope this helps!

      Shari Replogle Thank you. I will see if this is available locally. Will try again with what I have by creating incise marks as you demo.

    Love your work! Also love watching you create. Just wondering, what do you use to wipe off the excess brown crayon (Gelato?) Guessing a baby wipe, but would appreciate knowing for sure. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the videos. Nice work! How do you get that extremely rough texture ? Is that also plaster?

      +Nolwenn Petitbois Hi Nolwenn, Thank you! The first thing I applied to the board in this video is plaster .

    The texture paste that you started with, was it water based? Are encaustic like painting in that you can start with water based/acrylic mediums and follow with oil based/wax?

    I love your style and the process and end product. However I find it hard to follow what it is you're doing and what your using without a commentary. :-)

    The hardest time I have is pricing... what would you price something like this piece at?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  7 років тому

      This is alway one of the more difficult things for me as well Lesa . Once I develop a body of work, I create a formula for the various sizes and start from the largest piece down .

    Hi, I see this was from a couple years ago, hope you still check in on the comments and questions. First of all, wonderful work! Music didn't bother me, as I read other comments, but it would be great if, in future videos, you could put commentary or more precise lists of materials. You may be just showcasing your process and work, and not necessarily trying to teach. So that's cool, whatever you're doing is generous to share with us! The first layer looks like plaster, what kind? The pencil, is that graphite or? I also noticed an oil stick perhaps? Also, were you wiping with baby wipes? Or just soft cloth? Anyway, fabulous result, freaks me out because at each layer up, I thought, she's gotta be done. Nope, you kept going. Let's me know I need to be more brave in my beginners attempts. At first I was sad you covered the center area dug out to reveal all the colorful layers underneath, then you did all that collaging, to great effect. Beautiful piece. Again, Thanks for sharing.

      Hi SuZQ , Yes, and thank you! This is one of the first videos I did for Wax on Wednesdays. There are now over 80 videos on the channel . The materials and supplies I use each week are always listed on the blog post for that week on www.playswithpaper.bogspot.com so you can find out everything that I used . I do talk a LOT and explain every step in all of my encaustic workshops that I offer both live and online :) The latest of which is the Encausticology series of online workshops.
      Yes that is plaster I am beginning with , and any hobby store plaster will work fine. Yes is is graphite, and yes oil paint sticks. You can use baby wipes and also a little vegetable oil to remove . I know what you mean , it takes a little bit to get used to building up the layers . Just know that in encaustic you can always scrape back :)
      Have fun !

    I understand, but would opt for NO music on all videos, especially videos about art tchniques.Thanks for your quick response--

    Why is it that most of these videos have obnoxious music in the background-- completely annoying and distracting.

    • @ShariReplogle

      +Chris Knapp I am so sorry Chris , I know not everyone likes the same type of music , and it takes a long time in the editing process to find appropriate music that you have permission to use here on UA-cam. Please know that you can mute it at any time on the little speaker below the video on the left. Hope this helps.
