I’m not sure if your portable radio does it or not, but mine can switch the ‘key’ to ‘none’ and not be iambic.. then you can use the left paddle as a straight key!!! 😂😂
No. So long as they are using a mechanical key. That’s for their sprints and QRS events, as well as January straight key month If you are doing an SKCC member number exchange, you should both be using mechanical keys. Straight key, side swiper or bug If you have paddles switch the radio / keyer to off / manual and then you can use them a a side swiper / cootie. That will count. SKCC is free to join. No membership fee. If you tell Randy that VK2NAP sent you he’ll knock another 50% off that for you. 😊
Also SKCC use 114Khz up on the band for QRS. Old novice band 7114, along with 14114, 21114 and 28114. You’ll hear them up there when things get crowded or they’re going super slow. Or like last night when the over the horizon radar / jammed / whatever was smashing the first 80KHz of 14MHz
Two years ago!? lol well at least UA-cam is keeping old posts relevant lol

My 7300 can do it....
Do I need a straight key to answer someone calling SKCC?
I have done it with a paddle before but I think the whole spirit is to use a straight key. I don't think it matters though
