A postdoc was an OK choice up until some years ago, but now it is becoming a disaster. Do not be afraid to step out of the often amoral and toxic academic environment into the industry! I did it and have zero regrets.
Your answer is what I was looking for. I come back to my city, Rome, to start a one-year renewable post-doc in the field of nonlinear optics. The PI is a great person and professional, my three colleagues as well were nice and competent guys. I have been the last person arrived in the lab, all the others already known the PI from long time and formed the lab with equipments. Considering that the lab is very very small (less than 15 squared meters), moving inside resulted very difficult to make it impossible to stay all at the same time. I felt from principle that I was not taken seriously and I have never been considered for their papers in their project or as co-author either as participant in the experiment. Snce I was tited of this humiliating situation, I started seeking job. A couple of weeks ago my PI proposed me to submit my candidature for the renewal of my position, but I said that I will leave in a few days for another job far away..I still have to start it, but my feeling is bitter because I lost a lot of time in the shitty accademy in the last years
I don't think recruiters see it this way. They are looking for someone they can fit in a box: BS EE, 2 years experience in X industry, 3 years experience with Y. Not someone who can solve problems. Maybe they are using a computer program to search for buzzwords.

That has been quite an eye-opening webinar for me. Thank you!
