  • The KPI for low volume production
Welcome to my in-depth video on "The KPI for Low Volume Production." In this video, I will explore the critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that can help you optimize your low volume production processes. Understanding these KPIs is essential for improving efficiency, reducing costs, and ensuring high-quality outputs in manufacturing environments where production runs are limited.
First, I delve into what low volume production entails and why it differs significantly from high volume manufacturing. You'll learn about the unique challenges and opportunities it presents, and why selecting the right KPIs is crucial.
When you have pass/fail defect data in low volume manufacturing you will learn very little from this data, here is an alternative suggestion for a great quality KPI...

I have a passion for tranformational capabilites of Six Sigma, Design for Six Sigma and Lean. Taught with simplicity, clarity and passion. The power of physics is truly amazing when used this way!
I have worked in a multitude of industries, steel, electronics, food, Pharmaceuticals, Electro-mechanical assembly. I specialise in making Six Sigma accessible to Small and medium sized companies upto 500 employees who find the big corporate 6 Sigma approach impractical for them. I am also an associate consultant for Air Academy Associates in the US. My practical let's make more money approach to Six Sigma is captured in my Book - 'Drink tea and read the paper' available from Lulu.com.
My technical passion is captured in my new book - 'Design of Experiments for 21st Century Engineers' available from LULU.COM. Contact me on paul.allen@allenp.co.uk

Hi Paul! I’m a rather green process engineer and Im wondering if you can help me understand PFMEA a bit better.
I’ve noticed that, at my company, we have a hard time with PFMEA. There are a couple areas I think we could improve upon just by having a better understanding of the definitions of failure mode and what exactly we should focus on in regards to failure modes. I’ve been told to keep my failure modes relating to product defects caused by the process, but I’ve learned that this isn’t always entirely encompassing of a process’ potential failures. I’ve realized that we particularly struggle when our failure modes are not related to part defects but falls into some of the other categories of 5M1E.
I’d be very interested if you did more videos on PFMEA.
