Ninokuni's thing seems to be that it takes place in the same fantasy world with the same familier locations with the same explanation that you have a double in said fantasy world but with each story being different from one another and sometimes set in a different time frame. So i am releaved they are making a stand alone movie with original chatacters.
I'm honestly a little relieved they're doing a different story. 9/10 movie adaptations of videogames never come out well. Plus, with so much in the game, it would take possibly several movies or a whole anime series to fit everything in. I'm only hoping we get some callbacks to the games.

Best movie for 2019, one of the most unexpected twist and amazing animation, great storyline, beautiful character personality and wonderful lesson for life. Surely, recommended! Hope many people watch this, it deserves way more.
I like the idea of it though. Yu going back to where he was meant to be all along, and being with the girl he loves. And it makes you see things from Haru's perspective. I've played both games, and this movie could honestly work as a third game...

Finally! I was expecting Ghibli to do the movie since you know... Ni No Kuni being animated by Ghibli and all. But I'm not complaining! I've been waiting for a Ni No Kuni movie! It honestly deserves one!
This may have a similar art style to Ghibli, but it's not a studio Ghibli film. And I don't mean that literally since I know this wasn't made by Ghibli. What I mean is that the animation just doesn't have that same charm and fluidity of a Ghibli film. Heck even Castle of Cagliostro had better animation. And that film was made in 1979. Yes I know that film also wasn't made by Ghibli but it was the first ever film Miyazaki directed so it counts.
This looks really promising. Would be cool if this was the plot to the 2nd game! Perhaps there are setting up a plot for the 3rd entry in the Ni No Kuni series? OR not. Eh excited for future Ni No Kuni regardless.

@Dark of the knight Evan doesn't appear. I think this movie takes place after the events of nino kuni 2. You do see Oliver from the first game and you do see Evan's Crown given to Yu at the end of the movie. So I'm guessing Evan is probably long dead in the movie.

I had a lot of problems with this movie. Spoiler alert I'm about to list them all -They never explained how Haru and Yu where good swordsman and could do magic even though they never did it before in their lifes. -Haru was reckless and stupid the entire movie and was annoying to watch. -They never dived deep into the connections both boys had to the world. Everyone but them had a counterpart but theirs was never revealed. Did neither one of them have a counterpart? Did Yu switch places with his counterpart on earth? Did Haru have family in the other world? Where did they learn how to fight and do magic from? -The villains reasoning for wanting to destroy the castle should have been discussed more but the movie made his sufferings look small and unimportant. He was abandoned by his family and later when he found love and happiness that was also taken from him by his family. When told his reasoning for wanting revenge the entire cast just said "Damn that's rough buddy, but did I ever ask?" -The movie was rushed from start to finish. It was so rushed I didn't give a damn if the girl was dying because she only had 5 seconds of screen time. I lowkey wanted the villain to suck Astroid's power so something interesting could actually happen. -The only thing I liked was that Astroid and Yu were cute together and gladiator fight.

As someone who grew up with Ni No Kuni, I got the game when I was like 7, this movie was reaaaaaally bad. I wasn't even sure what was happening a few parts. I think the idea (two soulmates growing up together) could've been 10x better if whoever wrote the script actually knew what they were doing. And a teenager wanting to murder an entire civilization over a high school crush was also incredibly stupid
