- Hello again everyone! I'm sorry it's taken a little while to get this video up - there's been a lot happening in the last few weeks! I spoke with Ellie, who's in her second year of the Gastrointestinal Physiology specialism and based in Bristol. She'd done a communication course around GI when at uni but didn't have lots of in depth experience in it before the programme. She actually works with Amie sometimes, the Urodynamics trainee I spoke with previously! GI physiology is kind of split into upper and lower investigations, depending on what the patient is presenting with. It's such a patient-facing specialism and will make such a difference to their quality of life so communicating compassionately is super important for helping them feel more comfortable. Ellie started during 2019 so is in some of her specialist modules now! She does a lot of monometry tests to look at muscle function - this can help to look at problems involving swallowing or issues involving the other end. Often, imaging tests will be used too to help to see what's happening to the structure. It sounds like such a good specialism if you're wanting something physiological with a bit more variety because they cover so much in their investigations!
Thanks again to Ellie for taking the time to speak with me and also being so patient while I was putting it up! I hope this is useful and am happy to be back doing more of these videos :)
Stay safe,
Meg
