Wonderful scene. It really got intense at the end, when the Olympian gods were overcome. Kevin Smith was such a perfect actor for this role, who could have done it better? Nobody.

I think it was unexpected. Ares always loved Xena, in a way, but more so than that he was always selfish and only working situations for himself. This was a selfless sacrifice on his part which he had never really shown he would or could do before. Loved this episode.
@@austinfry5977 i think the whole ending is totally stupid. The gods being killed off is bizarre...first starting with Hera and Zues (Hercules killed Zues). Just stupid in my opinion.

@@b.y.o.p.9035 Sadly, Athena became just as petty and vindictive as the other gods in the end. Maybe if she'd used some of that boundless wisdom of hers, she could've realized that she was fulfilling the prophecy of her own volition and found some way to co-exist peacefully with Eve.

Later Xena would help Ares gain his godhood back because she realized where their is love their must be a god of war & Ares was the best man for the job
Yeah, all the Greek gods died or ran away. Xena restores Aphrodite and Ares to their rightful places because they were what kept the world spinning.
Aphrodite lost her godhood because someone stole it later but she stayed out of Zena vs the gods battle, Zena had no issues with Aphrodite. Zena gave ares his godhood back to make a balance between of love a war and because ares better the devil you know

If Ares didn't mess with Xena so much, she probably would have been with him more. She couldn't trust Ares after everything he puts her through at least he saves them in the end. Ares is great really loved him in this role so sad to hear of his passing but he will always be remembered.
I sort of agree with what your saying. I definitely believe Xena loves Aries and definitely considered being with him, especially in her crazy days. But I think Xena always knew that he was and never would be good for her. He would feed her darkness. I think their love represents the toxic type of love. You can love someone dearly but it doesn't always mean they are good for you....
The ultimate bad boy, but he proved in the end that he wasn't so bad. 🙂

I hated the fact that Artemis died so quickly and stupidly. I wanted to see her put more of a fight. Same for some of the other gods.
This should've been a two-hour season finale. We probably would've gotten a fuller experience with more time.
Artemis is difficult to write well in a fight. She has arrows. That's it.
I wanted more Gabrielle & Eve moments. That's 90's writing for ya but still hands down one of my favorite shows.
Romantic moments? As Xena’s wife Gabriel is effectively Eve’s 2nd mother.

Xena catching the arrows of Artemis made one of the best goddesses look weak. The death of the Olympians was when Xena jumped the shark. She beat them too easily, easier than regular bad guys from average episodes, and a few episodes into season 6, the God of Eli starts acting questionable too. I hated the Twilight.

Agreed. Xena became OP removing any tensions and stakes in this episode. And the gods acting like buffoons in the fight. They had to kill Eve to beat Xena so why didn't Artemis shoot Eve with the arrow first? Why did Athena just stand there doing nothing when Xena was catching the arrows? Why didn't Athena blast Eve instead of jumping towards her after Artemis dies?
The Gods are immortal humans. The minute you check their immortality, they become scared. The Gods were afraid. Their twilight was predicted, so they stopped thinking logically. They started making mistakes
Also you have to recognize that Xena for years has been contending with the 'gods' or 'godlike' entities, so she's had a LOT of practice, especially with Ares, either with him or against him. She contended with Hercules for a while and gained experience from that, Xena is an above average mortal, and it was been speculated that Ares could have been her father, making her a demigod.
This 'twilight' event also could have meant a waning of their actual powers too, especially after Zeus and Hera's demise. Also with the gods here, they can get so used to their own powers, that they become complacent and have nearly no physical skill against an equal.
Can we please get a remastered HD Xena re-release please!! This looks like so much better quality!! I would gladly update my collection! I love Ares!!! My shipper heart is gonna explode! This was always my fav scene!

uh huh, everybody's talking about SEE ARES REALLY LOVES XENA!! but nobody talks about the fact he did N O T have to save Gabrielle, she didn't grant Xena any special abilities, he just needed to save Eve! letting Gabs die actually would have benefited him, cuz she was the only one able to keep Xena away from him. he could've lied to Xena and said he only had enough power to save Eve. would she have seen through that lie? probably, but odds are Eve wouldn't have let Xena kill Ares cuz it's not the way of love. also, just a little detail, but he looked at Gabs the entire time he was healing her and Eve! 😍

Are you sure he looked at Gabrielle the whole time? 🤔 Even from the first time the episode aired it looks like his head and vision is between both of them. I didn't even realized he was touching Eve until the third time of watching it.
I personally don't think Ares wanted Gabrielle to die. Remember, he admitted, especially during this season that if Xena wouldn't come back to him then Gabrielle would be the next best choice. Her progress from Season 4 into Season 5 is what made Ares pay more attention to her. He definitely wanted to keep Gabrielle around, even if that meant for her to still be around Xena too. Ares was fine that.
Just my thoughts, but I like the way you summed up how he could have lied to Xena about not being able to save Gabrielle. That would have been cold, Ares. 😊 Season 6 could have started with Xena searching for Gabrielle in some new dark dimension. 🙂

Yes, its really backwards. In true Greek Mythology, Athena was mainly the Goddess of Wisdom and War while Artemis was Goddess of the Hunt and the Wilderness, which included animals of course.
So you would think that being around wild animals would help to increase your battle senses to aid in battle. However, with Athena being associated with War herself, I guess its kind of a neck to neck situation.
I agree though. The Artemis here could have done better. Instead of Athena being embarrassed of Ares stumbling into the room wrapped in chains, she should have been shouting at Artemis with a "How are you the Goddess of the Hunt if you can't hit Xena with at least one of those arrows?!" 😁

No, he didn't what he told her is that "she was an afterthought" and tbh I think it was only because he didn't feel comfortable then because she was thanking him for it, he was like: "cut off the drama already", he just didn't want to show that he actually cared, but I believe he did care!

I get Ares restored Gabrielle and Eve, by giving up his immortality, but how did her sword get the power to kill gods....did he just make her a god or something? I forget, haven't seen this episode in awhile.
Eve gave Xena the power to kill Gods. As long as Eve is alive Xena can kill Gods but if Eve dies then Xena loses her ability to kill Gods.

@@chrisharris6425 It was said in The Furies but Xena was in an "altered state" and Ares denied. In fact even among the script writers some considered he was her father and some he was not (it's said in the extras of the Exclusive Deluxe Collector's Edition DVDs).

Xena was one step above the peak of human performance with just a toe on the line that separates natural human abilities from the supernatural but not quite supernatural herself. Regardless of her seemingly supernatural abilities she wasn't a demigod she was just as mortal as Gabrielle but with enough time and training even Gabrielle probably could have reached Xena's level.
