I am a American Muslim tied up in all sorts of financial boundaries and 3 feet under with debt. I am watching this video as I have made up my mind to perform Umrah this november,2024. Once I started to watch this video I started crying for no reason. I don't have any rationale why I am crying. This is beautiful and I cannot wait to perform my Umrah soon.
I’ve been tearing up watching this, I don’t know walahi if I’m able to do umrah without crying, May Allah swt make easy for us to make one. And Jazakallah kher for the video.
Don't be nervous. None is perfect. And you are doing what our God (Allah) asked us to do. Besides you are following what our Teacher (RasulAllah saw) taught us to do. So be happy and be brave. May Allah accept your Umrah.
I completed my Umrah in Oct 2023. I cant speak/read Arabic and here are the important steps i followed based upon my prep - 1. Say the intension of Umrah once you leave from home and you can say this multiple times. You can stop saying this when you reach Miqat. 2. Memorize talbiya. This is very important. You need to start saying this once you reach Miqat and you need to stop saying once you reach Masjid Al Haram. 3. You need to wear your irham from Miqat so its advisable that you board the plane wearing irham. When you cross Miqat, you enter the state of irham i.e. the restrictions of irham applies to you till you complete the Umrah. 4. When you enter the Masjid Al Haram, say - Oh Allah, open the doors of your mercy for me. At that point you dont need say Talbiya any more. 5. Prepare a nice, comprehensive dua before hand. Once you enter the mosque and see Kaaba for the first time, stop for a moment, say your favourite Ayat/Surah, 1 durood and make your dua which you have prepared before hand. 6. Enter the tawaf area, uncover your right sholder (men only), start your tawaf from the green light by raising your right hand to the Hajraate Aswad and say loudly - Bismillahi Allah hu-Akbar. Your tawaf starts from there. 7. You need to make 7 rounds. Between Yemeni Corner and Hajrate Aswad say - rabbaina Ataina Fit Duniya Hasanatay wafil Akharate Hasanate wakina Ajaban Naar. 8. Once you complete tawaf, stop for a moment, drink a bit of Zamzam, and offer two rakats nawafil salaats near Maqamme Ibrahim. 9. Once done, go to Saayi area and start from Saafa to Marwaa. 7 times back & forth (combined). Remember to run below the green lights. 10. Once done. Stop and glorify Allah, thank allah, send salaam to RasulAllah (saw) and exit Haraam. 11. Go to a barbershop and shave off the hair. Shaving is preferred and sunnat. Once done, your Umrah is complete and come out of your state of irham.
Note - 1. Kissing/Touching Kaaba is not mandatory. There is a lot of rush, i would not advise. If you can touch, it's awesome mashaallah but if you can't your Umrah is no less that those who touched so don't stress. 2. If Waqtiya Salaat i.e. any of the 5 farz salaat starts when you are performing tawaf or saayi, stop immediately. Offer your salaat in congregation and start after farz salaat is over. 3. Once your tawaf is over, you can cover your right shoulder back during saayi. 5. Masjid Al haraam is the only place where both genders can pray close to one another's. There is a lot of rush in the tawaf area. Remember to lower your gaze. As a man I was very conscious and kept my distance from women and was mindful of my arms. I placed my hands in front so that I don't hit/touch a woman by mistake. 6. Try to avoid drinking cold Zamzam, it's very tempting but you would catch a cold. Opt for normal temperature Zamzam. 7. Many people start doing wazu/wadu with Zamzam. That's not correct. Zamzam is only for drinking and you can put a bit on your face & head but not for wazu. 8. The marble floor of Haaram feels hard during salaat. You might want to bring in your own prayer mat so that it's comfortable for you. 9. Pack an umbrella, it's very hot in KSA and it rains abruptly there. The umbrella would come in handy. 10. If you need to buy some clothes like Jubbah, Abaya etc., but from mecca instead of Medina since the mecca market is cheaper but the Medina market has more variety. 11. Before you leave for Medina, remember to book your slot on the Nusuk App for your visit to the Rawdah at Masjid An Nawabi.
At Masjid An Nawabi, 1. prepare a choice of your salaam to Rasulullah saw. The simplest is "As Salaatu As Salaamu Aleika ya Rasulullah". There are better versions if you can memorize. 2. Remember to say your salaam to Abu Bakr (ra) and Umer Khatib (ra) also. 3. Prepare a durood of your choice. Durood e Ibrahim is very nice and most popular. 4. Prepare a nice, comprehensive dua to read at Rawdah. The book "Fortress of the Muslim" is very nice reference for preparing the dua. Don't be vague, be precise in your dua. Remember to ask dua for your parents/family by name. 5. When you go to Rawdah, you enter Masjid An Nawabi by the Bilal gate and exit by Salaam gate. So carry your footwear with you. If you leave it by the Bilal gate, you can't go back to collect it. 6. At all the time in Rawdah remember NOT to ask Rasulullah for anything but ONLY to Allah. At Max we can request our Nabi. The best supplication is - Ya Rasulullah (saw), I request your intercession for me/my family on the day of judgement and I pray to Allah swt to enable me die on the religion of Al Islam and on your Sunnah". 7. Many people offer salaat on the courtyard of An Nawabi. If your position during salaat happens to be before the imam your salaat becomes makrooh. To be safe, arrive early and pray inside the mosque.
