When I listen to this I just see a good Christian is so prepared to fight sin, but it looks so good so he decides to get just a little taste. His little taste becomes his addiction that he can't escape. But then God speaks through his sin and asks him to hold on to the true joy that only lives in Him. I think we all have that sin in our lives that calls to us and just looks so good but we need to fix our eyes on God and know that our hope and our true happiness comes from him alone!
I was deeply convicted by this song, I agree with this. You know the good you ought to do but still slide down the slippery slope of whatever it wants, whatever it takes to feel alive. Also, The Gray Havens are probably my favorite artist now!
This is breathtaking. I'm not sure how to describe it.. the song has already meant a lot to me, and these images fit so perfectly and enforce the story so well.
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my life! The singing, instrumentation, and visual art are so authentic and pure. It's like each time I listen to this song, it has a freshness to it that is indescribable. Keep doing God's work guys!!!! 😊❤
Bear Chains while this song doesn't really mention God directly, much of their other music does, and if you listen closely, you hear the christian influences with their ideas of patiently awaiting joy and grace in this song. While a lot of that doesn't seem to ncesarily imply christianity, if you are a christian as this band is, those ideas are completely unseperable from your entire world view, and because of that I can say confidently that this band definitely had Jesus in mind when writing this song.
Jack Woodbury I agree with you, Jack. I am familiar with the story of the sirens. They represent temptations of sin that all of us are susceptible to. In the story, the ship's captain instructed his crew to tie him securely to the mast so he wouldn't give in to the siren song. I'm so glad we have God's Word with His promises to make a way for us at the hour of testing. I love the Gray Havens band so much. I love their depth. I feel challenged by some of their songs. God bless you, my brother in Christ! Maranatha! P.S. Maybe they will write a song using the word Maranatha! 😉
Wow this band is so amazing. Musically so talented. Unlike a lot of music nowadays. God led me to them, thank you Jesus. Gray Havens, He has His hands on y’all!!
Splendid!! Love it!! Beautiful and gripping the way this song perfectly describes our temptation to seek life among the dead, even after we've tasted and known the goodness and fullness of grace... And, the graphics in the video pronounce it even more... Thank you!! This discovery is very timely!!
@@grayhavensmusic , absolutely! It's one that my toddler likes to listen to while she's eating, and she'll sing the "Hold on" part at different times during the day. 🙂
Hold on my heart You once were full and sang of grace Hold on One taste of the sound From the sirens in the water And I'm thinking I should get out The sharpest sword and suit of armor So I can be ready to strike But I pause, one more time One last taste of the sound Then I'll cut these sirens down But as they sang, I forgot They were death, so I brought them my heart To be filled, and I followed them No trace could I find Of any joy the sirens promised They had found a way with a lie To turn what's good and should be wanted Into what is highest above all desires and loves Til my heart would obey Whatever it wants whatever it takes To feel alive and set free Only bound to the sea Where the sirens are leading me on Hold on Hold on, my heart You once were full and sang of grace Hold on Hold on, my heart You've tasted joy that's more than this Hold on Hold on, my heart You once were full and sang of grace Hold on Hold on, my heart You've tasted joy that's more than this Hold on

So much truth and insight in this comment. His strength is made perfect in my weakness.

Amen I’m struggling with that very thing!
I don't know why you're not more popular
Seriously! It is baffling.
I needed this song as my confession to God. It describes exactly where I have been. I love your music, it has meant so much to me in darkness.
Bedihamback how are things going now?
UA-cam keeps recommending me really good Christian folky groups at random and honestly thanks
I'm not crying. My eyes are just sweaty.

I went to one of their concerts and they explicitly stated it.

This is beautiful. The deepest, most captivating powerful thing i've watched in a while
Fantastic song, and the simple graphics/art of the video enhances the message. Glad to have come across them after reading a Covenant Eyes article.

AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hold on my heart
You once were full and sang of grace
Hold on
One taste of the sound
From the sirens in the water
And I'm thinking I should get out
The sharpest sword and suit of armor
So I can be ready to strike
But I pause, one more time
One last taste of the sound
Then I'll cut these sirens down
But as they sang, I forgot
They were death, so I brought them my heart
To be filled, and I followed them
No trace could I find
Of any joy the sirens promised
They had found a way with a lie
To turn what's good and should be wanted
Into what is highest above all desires and loves
Til my heart would obey
Whatever it wants whatever it takes
To feel alive and set free
Only bound to the sea
Where the sirens are leading me on
Hold on
Hold on, my heart
You once were full and sang of grace
Hold on
Hold on, my heart
You've tasted joy that's more than this
Hold on
Hold on, my heart
You once were full and sang of grace
Hold on
Hold on, my heart
You've tasted joy that's more than this
Hold on
Good song with great message!
I hope my music can be this deep one day!
Love the music video!
Did you write this for me?
All of us.

😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍🇵🇦
i ment i like this
+Anthony Travaglione It's ok. Both are applicable
This is what happens if you compromise on sin... I would know
I think we all know, if we are honest with ourselves.
