Dude, the same thing happens to me, the feelings that this movie and the anime convey to us and how it makes you want to play basketball are simple incredible
An absolute masterpiece, Inoue once again shows us why he's a genius. Going into the movie, I simply expected it to be an animated version of the manga, never would I have ever imagined that Inoue would frame the final arc of Slam Dunk from the point of view of Ryota, and I never would have expected such beautiful character development and background for Ryota. By the end of it, I wanted to cry because of how deep and beautiful this film was. Not only did we get the highlights of the Shohoku vs Sannoh game in animation, we also get a story of a boy who's connecting with his deceased brother through the game of basketball and learning what it means to be a man. Something else I wanted to mention is that Ryota's backstory is referenced in a one shot manga Inoue made years ago called "Peirce" with the character sharing the same name as Ryota, meaning Inoue had this backstory with him for nearly 2 decades. As for the animation, I was upset when I found out it was CGI, until I saw it, and was impressed with how natural and fluid it looked. All I can say is that is one of my favorite movies of all time, I love Slam Dunk and it's one of the reasons why I love basketball. It defined a major part of who I am and for that, this series will always have a close place in my heart, this movie is a masterpiece.
Rewatched the movie for 20th time. I will never get over at the last minutes of the game. Sakuragi blocking Mikio Miyagi making a flashy but crucial pass to Mitsui. Mitsui with the clutch 4 point play Akagi blocking Kawata's dunk Sakuragi blocking Sawakita's dunk from behind 🥶 Sakuragi passing to Rukawa Then in return Rukawa passed to Sakuragi for the game winning shot to beat Sannoh Props to Sakuragi for playing with an injury that could've seriously paralyzed him for the rest of his life and he was probably running on adrenaline the whole game
This animation and music are all so well done and amazing. It's not just the beauty of the paintings, but the deep sensibility of the students' worries and life.
The First Slam Dunk appears to pay tribute to one of the most influential manga ever written and it was done so in a subtle manner. I dive right into it after I finished the manga and it was so rewarding to see the particular arc (story), still fresh in my mind, animated before my eyes. Direction is delicate and handle the source material with great respect, though unorthodox visual animation may be a matter of preference (a minor factor, at least for me). The swish of the net in the basket every time Mitsui makes a 3 pointer is still resonating in my ears and it's so satisfying. 40 minutes of gameplay, more than 2 hours of runtime, and more than 3 decades of influence.
I have read the manga as soon as after I had seen the movie. Miyagi's backstory really made me cry, and it's fitting that Inoue had made him the central character of the movie. His character is often under-utilized in the manga. but one thing I enjoyed in the manga, that Sannoh's Kawata and Sawakita are hilarious
• "Slam Dunk" is an iconic sports manga by Takehiko Inoue that has become a landmark in both basketball and manga history. First serialized in the early 1990s, the series blends humor, intense action, and character development in a way that captures the excitement of basketball while also delving into the personal growth of its characters. • • The story follows Hanamichi Sakuragi, a high school delinquent who initially joins the basketball team to impress a girl, but soon discovers a deep passion for sport. His transformation from a brash, unskilled rookie to a key player on the team is central to the narrative and provides both comedic and heartfelt moments. Sakuragi is a flawed yet endearing protagonist, whose stubbornness and brash nature make him incredibly relatable. His journey is one of self-discovery, teamwork, and overcoming obstacles, making his growth throughout the series one of its most compelling aspects. • •The strength of "Slam Dunk" lies in its vibrant cast of characters. Each team member, from the talented and serious Shohoku captain, Takenori Akagi, to the skilled yet humble Kaede Rukawa, adds depth to the story. The dynamics between them-ranging from rivalry to camaraderie-enhance the emotional stakes of the basketball games and bring a layer of realism to the team’s development. • • The pacing is strong, especially in the latter half of the series, as the stakes rise during the interhigh tournament. Each match is a thrilling ride, filled with strategic plays, individual brilliance, and moments of team spirit that make the victory feel earned. •Ultimately, "Slam Dunk" is more than just a sports manga-it's a story about growth, friendship, and the power of perseverance. It can resonate with anyone, regardless of their interest in basketball, thanks to its universal themes of self-improvement and teamwork. Whether you're a fan of sports or just a lover of well-crafted stories, "Slam Dunk" is a must-read, offering a perfect blend of humor, heart, and high-flying action.
Ryota Miyagi‼️🏀 Always following his late brother's footsteps, he repeatedly setback and finally achieved his brother's long-cherished dream of defeating Sanno:‼️ "He pretends to be okay to the fullest."
