Scott, did you ever get the CJ running? I’ve replaced the starter, soliniod and ignition switch on the steering column I can use two screw drivers to bypass the soliniod but it won’t turn over nor have lights
Those are TEMPORARY battery terminals only. No wonder your heep won't start. Get rid of them now. When you turn the key to START, do you have 12vdc at the blue starter solenoid wire (S terminal)? If you take a wire and touch the + battery post TO the S terminal, the heep should crank. If it doesn't you need a new ignition switch which is at the bottom of the steering column. Pain in the butt in install too. Your wiring is a mess. Battery cables are not 30 dollars champ. You also need to check the ground from the starter solenoid chrome housing to the - battery post. The two mounting screws also need a clean - ground or your solenoid won't work. Your screws are rusted on the outside. No doubt at the threads inside also. Your firewall ground is crap.
yeah man! what a mess. I'm still working on it, but its a time and money thing. I did get it to start. and it was a short in the steering column because it only works when i move the wheel to full tilt that it starts. thanks for the comment. im making it happen one screw resto at a time.
Check to make sure rack sector gear in the steering column behind the key, inside the column is not broken or off track. You can start it with pliers temporarily but you need to research it first.
