Bowie was sent a version of this song and decided to record it. He loved it so so much. Here it is for the first time in all of it's wonderful breathtaking beauty. Enjoy and dont forget to share
The transition in this song at 4:05 is simply divinely inspired genius, especially when backed up by strings. Truly wonderful. This song was beautifully performed by a-ha in an MTV Unplugged video.
David does it his own- artistic- way while recording this raw demo version and his choice to try this, means a great honour for A-ha.Proves this song"s great songwritting by Pal Waatkar.Personaly though i still adore Morten"s unsurpassable delivery to the official release.
It was by sheer chance I watched " take on me " then a recommendation for " the sun always shines on tv" and then I saw a link to this which blew my mind as one of the biggest Bowie fans ever I thought I had every track he had ever done and I discovered this Gem.....made my day !
Oh my God its beautiful. I came here after I had been listening to "this alone is love" from Stay on these roads album and that song just felt so David Bowie-ish to me so I googled to see if they had ever done any song together or influenced each other in any significant way. Definitely a pleasant surprise this!
4 brilliant songs by aha the sun always shines, the living daylights, stay on these roads and take on me.....song of the 80s the last one I bought it when it was 42 in charts ..had to be released 3 times to get anywhere...boom the video cracked it open...
This is my favourite song of all time (the A-ha version). I didn't know about this so I'm asking this respectfully - is this genuine and not a wind up? I've never heard of it's existence before now.
It's interesting that it's a carbon copy of A-ha's version, for at least 90%, which is as good as it is. This version's synths parts are actually more interesting. More counterpoint and heavier in the synth. If it was recorded in 1983, that was when Let's Dance was made. Makes sense, looking at David's sensabilities at that time. Okay.
In a-ha’s “Train of Thought” video, Morten sings very much in the style of Bowie. In fact, Morten sounds more “Bowie” than Bowie himself. Bowie was obviously an a-ha aficionado. Too bad Morten and Bowie never collaborated or recorded a duet.

I always knew this was a special song, and now knowing that Bowie also loved it, makes me love it even more.

This is a gem
Fan of everything A-Ha and sure dig Bowie. Never would have imagined Bowie doing this but it is an obvious match.
