Living in some parts of Africa can dampen a full expression of fashion. Like I love mini skirts but my age and social environment has an impact on my choices.
@@lolakrivosic I get that...and there are people who do that. But there was an incident maybe a year or 2 ago in my country...Kenya...where women were undressed by men on the street if they were deemed to be too indecent. To the point where they were hiding and other women had to protect them by covering them up with blankets they were carrying. The thinking of these men was that if you're wearing barely anything, you might as well walk naked. There was a whole protest about it (#mybodymychoice) and it's stopped. But the fear is there. That's why I have a fear of walking downtown...among other things. Also, this is just a personal thing, I fear that if I dress up and pop out my nice accessories and shoes, it's like asking to be robbed. I'm not sure if this is actually true since I'm more of a home-body
Anita K. 78 Hey girl,Im from South Africa and I absolutely understand what you are going through,we also have a very high femicide rate. What I do to be able to pop with my style and still stay safe is have “safe” clothes.Ill wear what I like but if Im in a bad area or know I have to go through a bad area or near bad people Ill wear those over my clothes, safe clothes include shawls, big jackets, big coats and things to blend in with the crowd. Also dress however you want,be bold and be original,I live in the land of flip flops and board shorts so stepping away from the rest was a huge risk for me but being you will be the best decision you will make, good luck gorgeous,I wish you the best and stay safe!!
I love how you said "honor your body type". While I disagree with people going "you can only wear X because of y on your body", I also hate people going "lul, wear whatever!" The first is very restrictive. The second encourages sloppiness in appearance. Wearing what you like but picking it in a color/cute/length that flatters you is the best approach/ As you said, it honors you! You get to wear what you want AND look lovely doing it in YOUR way.
I always enjoy watching your fashion videos, but this one was especially insightful, and extremely easy to implement. My fav tip was the one about observing your environment and lifestyle to see how they may influence your personal style. It was cool to actually see how your time in japan influenced your love for plaid.
I've been doing all of these for the last few months and I've discovered a lot about my personal style. I've even found some stores that I consider my "go to" for the different faces of my style. Oh Another tip for defining your style is to consider your lifestyle, if you work in an office you're going to need to invest in office appropriate attire that complement your personal style.
LOVE THIS VIDEO Also as a side note, if you find something that is a "no" for your body type, but you love how it looks, well 1- fuck it wear it 2- see what category this is in, look around in this category by online window shopping and identify what elements of the piece you like. This can be generalised to what you are looking for in your personal style, because you like it so much that even though its a "no", its a "yes" in your books.
I looooove that you paid attention to fast fashion and where your money actually goes. Since a year or so I am more conscious of what I buy, who made the clothes, and what the carbon footprint is. Thank you for using your voice to inform more people about this!
this was like a well-detailed infomercial. i learned so much lol. i definitely do the pinterest and instagram thing! it's actually really helpful. thanks for this video, it was an absolute lifesaver :)
i am way late to the show, but i just want to say that your advice on how to get interested & excited about style & fashion is GREAT! i LOVE LOVE LOVE these topics & i have LOVED listening to your video.
15:07 that's what I do! i'm still a student with a limited amount of pocket money so I can't splurge on high quality pieces only but I try to do it as often as possible! thank you for doing so as well, I definitely related to what you said about people nowadays purchasing fast fashion
I've been watching a ton of personal style videos lately and this one is so informative and hits on so many things that the others haven't. Loved this!
This ACTUALLY helped so much. I have an action plan rather than just you need these etc and try a new style each week. I loved the bit about looking at your past and culture.
Very interesting to see your style journey and how you identify what you like and why. Also explains why your accent flips around :D as someone who also moved around a lot growing up, can relate
There are a lot of videos about personal style out there, bu this one has to be the most original and helpful one so far! I feel like you really took your time to give tips that haven't been heard of before. Thank you for this guide! ✨
This is sooo helpful. Honestly finding your fashion style is difficult and takes time but this video makes the task easier and gives me hope I'll narrow down my style soon!
0:40 style curation tools; save things that catch your eye & take note of overarching themes and trends; jewelry to clothes and headwear make a list of clothes that you don’t like and that you do equal so you know what to stay away from find out if your style is influenced by your culture or community understand what you do like about what people around you wear and what you don’t what colors do you love wearing what are your top colors tailor your style to honor you body type find the right neckline, cut and cinches for your clothes and also chose the right style for different dresses and clothes I.e crop tops don’t just wear any but the ones that compliment if you have a broad back or you want to look that way be artistic with it (clothes for broad backs) the same way you can focus on getting a broader back to look more hourglass giving that illusion when you work out try on different clothes even if you don’t buy anything see styles cuts and fabrics by surrounded by diversity basics (building blocks) vs essentials (piece that encapsulate your personal style & inform the essence of your personal style) 11:57 DOCUMENT IT ALLL all the important distinctions further make a shoppers guide with it 13:16 personal shopping philosophy TIMELESSS PIECESSS💃🏾❤️🔥🥰✊🏽 they last longer you’re gonna be giving them to your sons of sons🤗💕 you can learn more philosophies as well 14:50 I.E high quality 15:09 sustainable pieces then little fast fashion or all sustainable just an idea 15:43 narrow it down 15:56 the lie of fast fashion spend mindfully and wisely and know that every piece you buy is an invest into your new look is this look worth invest my coins in? Also (fashion journal prompts) also I would love to look style yet simple like Fran I’d love to find that balance where it never looks like I’m trying to hard just looking like I’m naturally a good stylist
Love how this video comes out right after I look at your Pinterest to get more pins for my "closet inspo" board!! 😂 I definitely have the problem of figuring out how to honor my body type, being plus-sized! I really love the look of minimal chic, high-waisted things that are meant to accentuate the waist and curves, but when they're on me, they only seem to accentuate my stomach. :/ It's like I can only find fashion inspo that suits either my style or size, and not both. Not trying to complain, but rather hoping for some tips from other viewers!
Thank you for a really articulate and helpful video! I really appreciate your emphasis on ethical shopping, and I found that you did a great job of not sounding preachy while still impressing the message on your viewers.
high prices don't mean high quality. Most brands, especially sports brands like Nike, Adidas etc. are produced by the same sweat shops [child labour] as cheap no name clothes like from Wal-Mart or which ever retailers you have in America.
How can i change my MO when shopping? - Go to 7-10 stores i'm attracted to - Try pretty much everything - Go back to the ones that had stuff i liked I feel like i have a mindset of "i have to go to all the stores because there might be something better than in this one and I'm missing out" So it seems super time consuming and i never do it
I was shopping on some website and I saw they had a lot of boatnecks and I instantly thought of you lol. This was a great video! Thanks for the fashion advice
This is such an awesome video! I've watched many videos and read many books about finding your style, and you've talked about things that I've not yet come across or considered. I was like damn let me get out a pen and paper and catch these jewels!
Hi Asia, when I hear what your fashion philosophy I really wouldn’t recommend shopping at zara. Zara is honestly 1 of the worst fast fasion stores. They used to make their clothes in international waters because there weren’t any laws there... Just imagine what conditions these people had to work in. Also the owner is rumoured to be in the maffia haha.
I really like your personality or like the way you talk and explain things and this video was really interesting Thank youu Why do i think you look like Lisa from blackpink anyway you're beautiful
i want to thank you for your advice about buying expensive and good quality clothes rather than cheap and low-quality clothes because it's really helping me! just like i intend to change the way i dress, i wanted to find a way to buy less too. so now, thanks to you, i know how to change my shopping philosophy! i don't need 30 sweatshirts, right? plus, thinking about the impact on the environment or people before buying is really important but it's also something i tend to forget :( but, concerning my style, i already have a board on pinterest in order to find what i like, but when i look at it, i notice it looks a lot like all the clothes i already own or at least it looks like the style i already have. i think it's maybe because i'm afraid to step out of my comfort zone, but what can i do about it? do you have any advice about that?
Now the question is, where can i find good quality clothes?! Sometimes things are expensive but not good quality so how can i tell if it will last me a long time?
A lot of it takes experience. Eventually you will be able to feel and see an item and tell how long it will last. Try to buy clothing made of natural fibers, as they tend to be of better quality. I would highly recommend thrifting, as it’s better for the environment and fairly inexpensive. If you buy a piece and realize you don’t like it or it’s cheap quality, you can easily throw it away or donate it back.
Could you maybe talk about some good quality clothing stores you like? I feel like I definitely want to do the spend more buy less thing but sometimes the price doesn’t necessarily correlate to quality. I bought some things from princess Polly for example and for what they were charging I was expecting a better product. I also feel like a lot of the ethical brands aren’t attainable, like reformation or they don’t really match my style. Like I feel like a lot of them kinda have the same specific feminine aesthetic.
I never put any comments but jeez you are a genius. Thank you so much
Living in some parts of Africa can dampen a full expression of fashion. Like I love mini skirts but my age and social environment has an impact on my choices.
I understand, but I hope you wear what you like, regardless of adversity

Anita K. 78 im so sorry these incidents happened. women should be able to wear what they want without being in fear of assault

@Trisha ks exactly, in India I'm scared to wear gold aesthetic chains, cause of the chain snatchers 🤷♀.
YOUR HAIRRRRRR.... I AM IN LOVE😫😫😫😫😫❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This was so helpful. I've struggled with my wardrobe for years, wasted sooo much money on clothes I never wear.
Yes thank you so much!
I have watched many "Find your style" videos and this is probably the most helpful and realistic video of them all.
Good going, Asia!
I love how you said "honor your body type". While I disagree with people going "you can only wear X because of y on your body", I also hate people going "lul, wear whatever!" I knew you are gonna mention a boatneck neckline
High waisted boyfriend jeans = girlfriend jeans 😉
This comment must not go unnoticed😩
I love high waist jeans because they don't scratch that your inner thighs when you walk.
Are you serious?! I didn’t fuckin know thissss
Wait rlly

Knowing the difference between ‘essentials’ and ‘basics’ is the best advice ever . Knowing that is going to help me so much !
“Don’t dress for your body type, but dress to honor your body type” love it.
LOVE THIS VIDEO
Also as a side note, if you find something that is a "no" for your body type, but you love how it looks, well

Loved it! Also liked “spend more, buy less” l def be incorporating that!
I already know I’m going to love this video🤪
I looooove that you paid attention to fast fashion and where your money actually goes. Since a year or so I am more conscious of what I buy, who made the clothes, and what the carbon footprint is. Thank you for using your voice to inform more people about this!

Honestly....when people ask about me and my vibe....*hands them my Pinterest*
Hey asia you could do a video all about the impacts of fast fashion and ethical fashion xxx
At my 30s and wanted to refresh my style. Love what u shared. thank u!
LOVE the basics vs. essentials point!!
Girl I’ve been watching hundreds of these types of videos but this one was the best one by far
i am way late to the show, but i just want to say that your advice on how to get interested & excited about style & fashion is GREAT! i LOVE LOVE LOVE these topics & i have LOVED listening to your video.
So informative and organized! Love how skilled you are at this type of instruction
It's 4:11am and my mind is blown. So helpful

I've been watching a ton of personal style videos lately and this one is so informative and hits on so many things that the others haven't. Loved this!
This was great! Love the idea that you can find a personal style without going and buying a bunch of clothes and then never using them.👌👌
this is literally the only video on this topic that is useful and original. 17 mins well spent :)
thank you sm for that note on your shopping philosophy of spending more, and buying less! thx for supporting sustainability
This ACTUALLY helped so much. I have an action plan rather than just you need these etc and try a new style each week. I loved the bit about looking at your past and culture.
why are you just so pretty it’s so unfair 😩😩
Very interesting to see your style journey and how you identify what you like and why. Also explains why your accent flips around :D as someone who also moved around a lot growing up, can relate

I really in love with your energy, it's just so energetic and so freaking positive 🎉
your videos are SO GOOD. The way you explain/describe things is so clear and easily understood! The points you mention are also quite original
0:40 style curation tools; save things that catch your eye & take note of overarching themes and trends; jewelry to clothes and headwear
make a list of clothes that you don’t like and that you do equal so you know what to stay away from
find out if your style is influenced by your culture or community understand what you do like about what people around you wear and what you don’t
what colors do you love wearing what are your top colors
tailor your style to honor you body type find the right neckline, cut and cinches for your clothes and also chose the right style for different dresses and clothes I.e crop tops don’t just wear any but the ones that compliment if you have a broad back or you want to look that way be artistic with it (clothes for broad backs) the same way you can focus on getting a broader back to look more hourglass giving that illusion when you work out
try on different clothes even if you don’t buy anything see styles cuts and fabrics by surrounded by diversity
basics (building blocks) vs essentials (piece that encapsulate your personal style & inform the essence of your personal style)
11:57 DOCUMENT IT ALLL all the important distinctions further make a shoppers guide with it 13:16 personal shopping philosophy TIMELESSS PIECESSS💃🏾❤️🔥🥰✊🏽 they last longer you’re gonna be giving them to your sons of sons🤗💕 you can learn more philosophies as well 14:50 I.E high quality 15:09 sustainable pieces then little fast fashion or all sustainable just an idea 15:43 narrow it down 15:56 the lie of fast fashion spend mindfully and wisely and know that every piece you buy is an invest into your new look is this look worth invest my coins in? Love how this video comes out right after I look at your Pinterest to get more pins for my "closet inspo" board!! 😂
I definitely have the problem of figuring out how to honor my body type, being plus-sized! I love your personality!
