    Great to see issues that can arise. The videos where everything goes without a hitch don't teach how to work around issues. Being fairly new to quilting, I get frustrated and seeing how others get past these challenges are more helpful than just watching someone quilt without problems (or maybe they edit those out???). Thanks for the educational videos!

    I just set up the frame last week. I'm almost done with a throw - using my old singer with a 5" throat. I've also done one without the quilt. That's why I set up the frame, and they're both a hot mess!
    Jazz 2 on order - best deal for a "mid-arm" throat space. I'm looking forward to another 7" of quilting room. Considering the setup I really want is 20k, I think this will work.
    Now to plan the practice work. I can always use them as doggy blankets if they're too hot a mess. the pups aren't nearly as critical as I am.

    I am just getting into quilting with my Tiara III. I got frustrated with it and it sat for 3 years or so. You were great . It does help to see how you worked thru issues in this video! It’s nice to know I’m not alone when it comes to free motion quilting! Practice does make better. No whee near perfect, but the more I play and practice, the better control I am learning to have with it! Thank you for sharing!

    Thank you for the video. I know I am late in watching but it still helps a lot. I have the Jazz 2 and an old frame bought second had that could handle a Juki 98Q. I am going to try my Jazz on the frame as it has a larger throat space. This has helped me a lot to get started.

    I was looking at buying a jazz2 and frame but I think this made me decide to save the money and use it towards sending quilts out to be done by someone who knows what they are doing. If I was younger I might feel differently but I think I'd rather spend my remaining years having fun

    Thank you. I bought both the frame and the Jazz 2 this year. I’ve only quilted one quilt. I’m struggling with the process. I appreciate you real approach to learning it and getting better. I will continue. One thing about me, I quilt for me and if I’m happy with I know my loved ones will be also. Thank you again.

      It IS a process. And by no means perfect. At least not for me. Every time I use it there’s a new learning curve. Yesterday went beautifully. Don’t know why, didn’t do anything differently except had a glass of wine before starting 😂

    Susan, this is SO helpful! Thank you do much! I can relate to everything you shared. I have a brand new JazzII. The old one worked super well on the frame, but this new one is frustrating me with tension/eyelashing issues. I'm going to persevere and figure it out.😊

    Edit: I see that you named the frame ( Grace Q Zone hoop frame), so I don't need an answer now, but wondering why it is so much more expensive (not a question for you) than the original one, even when it was not on sale. I have seen the Cutie Breeze recently, with the overhand bars, which I would rather have, I think. On the Jazz II and tension issues, I found a great video on it a year or so ago on UA-cam, although I don't recall who made it, if you need it I will try to search for the person again. Question please, where is your fame from, is it a Cutie with an overhand bar, confused? I really enjoyed watching your video, this is how I learn, you rock and we quilters are worst enemies, you do good work lady

I want to get one but have only found the Juki and they don't guarantee it's use on any machine other than the Juki. Thank you for all your great videos. I love this tutorial ! I own a Jazz 2 machine, and now, I am gonna ask Santa for a frame, for Christmas! Is it easy to put the handles on the top instead of underneath? Nevermind that question. I see you are using a Grace Q Zone frame, not a Cutie Frame. I like the one you are using better, I think!

      Try increasing your tension a bit more. Then make sure you slow down your hands - moderate pedal speed and slow hands work well for me. Do some straighter lines first then work up to circles or rounded edges. Additionally you can rethread the top thread.

    It looks like you may be going too fast for the machine on the frame. I have a high speed straight stitch machine and it can do it but a true domestic machine needs to be slower on the curves.

    • @lensdiva
      @lensdiva  2 роки тому +1

      Ugh. This machine is so finicky . I think mostly because it’s mechanical. We have a whole Facebook group dedicated to ups and downs of the JazzII. It is for sure a balance of getting the hand speed and the needle speed in the right synch. The more I learn now the better the transition will be when I get a long arm!

    • @theclosetquilterelliemiria198
      @theclosetquilterelliemiria198 2 роки тому +1

      @@lensdiva it’s not the fact that it’s mechanical it’s actually that it’s not a straight stitch high speed machine. That is really the issue. My pq1500s ( which is the SL now doesn’t have these issues … what is the reason? It’s made for the torque punishment of a high speed situation and frame

    How did you decide on 110/18 needle?

    • @lensdiva
      @lensdiva  2 роки тому +3

      I used a 90/14 or 100/16 when I sat down to quilt. The first time I tried the frame I broke FIVE needles. My local sewing shop @Missouri Sewing Machine Co suggested the 110/18. Works like a charm. Haven’t broken a needle since!

  • @little1942
    @little1942 2 роки тому

    Do you use your Jazz for piecing too? I was looking into the jazz 2 for piecing but after reading the reviews was reluctant to try it.
    I recently purchased the grace Qzone hoop frame with the Q19 (back in dec ‘21). I have back issues and worried that it would be a problem. I cannot believe how much easier it is to quilt using the qzone instead of doing free motion! Despite the machine weighing over 30 pounds, it glides like it’s on ice. I’ve completed four larger size lap quilts with all over designs and am finishing my first custom quilt. My quilting is slowly improving.
    I enjoy watching other people learning to quilt on a frame too. And you are right, you have to just do it and don’t over think it. You will never become a better quilter unless you actually practice your quilting!
    If I may, I’d like to add a suggestion. Since I’m still getting to know my machine, I needed an economical way of practicing without wasting fabric and batting. I purchased several yards of a soft felt to practice my quilting on. It also saves the time of making a sandwich and makes repositioning easier. It make a great substitute.
    I’m glad I ran into your video, Susan. It makes me feel like I’m not learning alone! I also watch Angela Walters and Adria. Natalia Bonner of Piece n Quilt is another excellent teacher I follow a lot. I look forward to seeing videos from you!

    • @lensdiva
      @lensdiva  2 роки тому

      I’m so glad you found something relatable!! I have used the Jazz for piecing but in all honestly I prefer my Janome for that - mostly because I like the ability to shorten my stitch just a bit. If you don’t need that extra throat space, then this may not be the gal for you. I think many sewi by machine places don’t even keep it in stock. I definitely think you love it or hate it. I’m so jealous of your Q19. I will soon be ready to make that leap although it sounds like none of my issues will be solved 😆 starting all over!!! Good luck with your searches! And keep on quilting!!
