The HK community is so wonderful. We’ve done everything possible to make modding easy AND resources like this to explain anything that might be confusing. I wish every game’s mods were this streamlined
I am impressed about how simple it is to mod the game. Checkmark the mods and you are done and the mods get integrated into the menu of Hollow Knight. Well done by those people!
Installing mods is with most games pretty easy. 1. You find the tool you want to use for the game (e.g. Mod Organizer 2 for Skyrim, Wrye Bash for Oblivion, ...) 2. Find the mods that you like (Most popular Nexus) 3. Install mod by clicking the download button 4. Use your tool to put them in the game
Community aside, Steam workshop exists, which just involves selecting the mods you want and voila... you have your mods. It's hard to get any simpler... but Hollow Knight does not have this feature.
I'm impressed that you managed to be so clear that I understood everything, when I know how terrible I am at anything technical. Trying mods sounds really tempting now!
This is an amazing resource! Thank you so much for creating it for the community! I love the timestamps to each section as well, and I think this is going to be one of the most linked videos within the HK Modding community for some time to come!
Omg I was just looking at the hollow knight mods and was a little worried I would have trouble figuring out how to install them! As a new Hollow Knight fan, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this!!! I recently got back into playing Hollow Knight and was really enjoying it, but I also have a lot of trouble sticking with tasks, and having to walk from so far away to the Mantis Lords fight was making the game frustrating for me in a way I don't think the developers intended. I was getting upset and stopped having fun with the game, but now I got debug mode working! Being able to fly directly to the boss arena and then turn off invincibility and noclip made my realization that if I don't get a damage upgrade that boss fight is going to take *forever* fun and humorous rather than demoralizing. I just saw the City of Tears for the first time and am more engaged with the game than ever. Thank you!
I thought I was going to sit for hours trying to figure this stuff out, but instead I get the most helpful and into detail video about it. Thank you so much!
Scarab rules it makes it so simple to get started. I mostly just wanted skins, but i saw a few other mods that I've had fun with as a casual player. :)
Thank you! This was incredibly helpful! I've been wanting to start playing randomizers and I was overwhelmed by the amount of mods, so having someone point beginner's in the right direction is beyond helpful!
Wow, this is one of the best turtorials i have ever watched. Great explaining. I play Hollow Knight for 2 weeks now and I am absolutely in love with this awesome community.
And just like that, the first five minutes were helpful, easy to understand, and now allow me to experience the vocalized move for Hollow Knight! Thank you, kind stranger!
This looks super fun to try; ever since I saw your and other’s videos with mods on them (mainly Skurry tbh) I’ve been wanted to set this up myself. Thank you for creating such a comprehensive and in-depth guide to this!
Thanks for this! I wanted to play through Hollow Knight with the voice acting mod as part of a spooky games marathon I am doing and this helped me immensely get all setup!
yo sorry for disturbing and i have this issue i dowloaded rando mods and all the dependencies but the hollow knight mod loading screen aint showing up is there any reason for this?
I just installed QoS yesterday, you're late. Also holy shit not having to wait through PV and AbsRad intros every time you're trying a radiant fight is such a fucking life saver.
Fire ends the video not explaining the mod that shows hit boxes that are being shown at the end lol, thanks for the help with the map mod, when I switched to scarab I thought it was broken and didn’t know it had a key under to activate it… it’s such a pain without the map for the checks lol
The god gamer provides his wisdom. Thanks for the guide, your videos are what encouraged me to go back and play HK again, so its even better to get the info right from the source!
i was trying out mod installers trying to find one that wouldnt give me a virus when your video popped up, this has helped a lot thank you so much! (ps, for veiwers, check all mods that are in use before you remove one, never know when one is dependant with another unless you check or you open the game and it wont run.) thanks for the help!

Best guide to mod installing that Ive ever seen
I don't think so. Nowadays, basically everything you'd need is on Scarab, whereas in the past there *were* a lot of mods that weren't. Kinda the same reason why I didn't cover downpatching/ModInstaller.
Thank you so much for thue guide I remember a couple years ago when a mod was going around adding a ranged nail for the game with charms adapted for it and wanted to play it, but could never figure it out. I cant believe its this easy to to get a mod installer for a game.
If you're still looking forward to playing that mod, I believe you're talking about "Lightbringer", it's unfortunately not on current patch. You can downpatch and use Mod Installer 2 instead. I'd suggest you join the Modding Discord for more help though, it's linked in the description.
I just got a steam deck and wanted to mod hk on it but hadn't found any posts on whether I could. It worked for me with a little tinkering. In desktop mode on the deck, I downloaded the Linux version of scarab and when I tried to open the file, deck offered to extract it for me. When I ran scarab from there, it didn't find my hk install but I went into steam in desktop mode and was able to find the install location from there. After providing that to scarab, it ran found and downloaded my mods perfectly. Then, when I went back to gaming mode, and started hk, I saw the mods as expected. I ran into an issue with the deck controller not working at all. I'm not sure if that was related to the mods or a compatibility issue with deck and hk in general. Nonetheless, you can choose a controller template that binds the keyboard to the controller buttons and that worked fine. I'm happy with portable randomized hk now. Maybe this will help someone.
I'm learning Java, so C# shouldn't be hard to adapt. Since I learned about the HK mods I came up with tons of Boss Fight ideas, like: Hollow Knight after Embrace the Void Ending (like Pure Vessel with some new attacks and the HK look). Hollow Knight but the Ghost was chosen as the Pure Vessel (the infection never leaks and the Vessel that is out character in the normal game is now the one who sealed the infection) And many others. And now, I can do all of that. Thank you.
This video helped alot! I've been wanting to try out custom skins for a while now, but I've never known how to get mods (I used to play alot of People Playground, I'm used to downloading mods of the Steam Workshop)
i have a pirated version of hk, when he was talking about the pirated version it looked like he was looking into my soul. i felt fear as if i was gonna get hunted down by fire.
I have a problem when I open Hollow Knight with Mods: Hollow Knight5 has encountered an error and must close. Would you like to open this folder now? ---------------------------------------------------------- But before I want to open this folder the message close again and HK closed
thank you!!! finally got PC hollow knight after beating the fuck out of it on switch, im gonna start my first randomizer tonight!!! first ever game ive modded, so excited!!

BTW, can you explain or make another video for the multiplayer mod and options? I was trying to play with a friend and other thing that i found so dificult was to set the game correctly, like the shared items, the skins, and other things like that. I didnt know that i need to start a random game and install another mod before, for the shared items, and things like that. Maybe could be useful too, like this video.
Sadly I play on console so I cant do any of this, but something I've always wanted to see was an impossible modded p5. Sure pantheon of nightmares is cool but there was a clear limit. I want a p5 with all the toughest bosses. Any radiance, absolute inferno God grimms, stuff like that
Man, I miss modding Hollow Knight so much! I used this video originally to mod HK and with a little help from the Discord server, it worked like a dream. Sadly, I uninstalled HK for a while as I was taking a break from it and didn't need it on my computer. I reinstalled it later. Ever since then, no matter what I've done, mods won't work on the game. They don't even register. I tried a clean slate, uninstalling and reinstalling everything, made sure the mods folder was in the right directory, all of it - nothing works :(
i can have scarab, but the moment I get a mod on it, Hollow Knight crashes as soon as I open it. What do I do? I have tried redownloading HK and Scarab
Great video. Mods are so much fun and I hope a lot of people give it a shot. It’s not too difficult

What?! Just saw the map mod S can set waypoints?!!! Such a game changer
Wait waypoints? How does that work? They show the shortest route? That's insane!

It's such a great feature. Big shoutouts to Phenomenol.
