I got it used to clone it on my HX Stomp. It is very good. It’s the real thing. Now my Stomp sounds the exact same, I run it in the front of my clean JCM, BUT it was A LOT of tweaking over several days, taking breaks and getting it closer incrementally. The IR-X is totally worth if you prefer analog/ knobs, simplicity, instant professional tone.
Or just get a fractal they literally sound good as soon as you pick your amp granted just gotta dial it in to your guitar that your using. Once you know how to use it properly it’s super easy and if you feel like diving into it crazy you can do that as well. I’m sure this thing is awesome tho
Finally got mine today & after an hour of tweaking, I hated it. THEN I realized the IR section was turned off... I honestly am speechless at how good this sounds. It does something that I've never been able to find in any other preamp: It's crunchy as all hell, but the harsh clipping that gives you crunch decays way before the harmonic distortion does on note decays & soft picking. So you get this super smooth bell-like distortion on edge of breakup or with the note decay, but it crisps up when you dig in with the pick. It's simply spectacular. I didn't expect to like the on-board boost as much as I do either considering it doesn't have a tone knob to adjust the bass cut.
I am definitely excited about this. Will check it out for sure! As a backup it seems like a no brainer. The player is killer on the demo - like ridiculous. Like the JEL 20, there seems to be a tweaked BE to the sound which sounds better to my ear. Somehow this box cuts beautifully with chords and manages to sing without being strident. That’s hard to do. Congrats and stay hungry,Dave Friedman. Love it!

This is wonderful. Love it. I'm wondering if I can bypass the preamp side to use the power amp and cab sim tho? I know that sounds weird...but I want to be able to use preamp pedals with your power amp side. Thats the one thing I'm waiting for. A lot of these amp in a boxes are great (honestly this is one of the best right now).
Honest opinions on how this IR-X sounds live thru an amps effects loop? I record and have the gear for that and the reason I ordered one yesterday. But was hoping it was just as killer going thru my fender vibro king? Thx
I got mine in yesterday and it's an excellent sounding device. Sounds great direct out through the H90. Sounds amazing using the preamp only into the powerstation into my cab. Out of the box with this one. What I am curious about is how did you make it feel so much more "connected" than the synergy models? It's some sort of magic. It doesn't have that strange disconnected feeling. I can't describe it any better.
Lovely, but how durable is it? I mean, those tubes generate a lot of heat and they are in close proximity of a circuit board in a closed environment. Also, how easy would it be to change those tubes?
Just picked one of these up. Sounds and feels so good! Question - when I disable the IR feature and am running into my DAW (Logic), while I am able to hear effects such as chorus, delay, reverb, etc that I am using in Logic, I am unable to hear my IR loader that I run through Logic. Any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?
Take the send from the IR-X and run it into the effects return of any tube amp. The Master volume on the IR-X will now control your amp's overall volume
Cool pedal, missing just a few things to be perfect. Please copy the NUX Amp Academy. Xlr out, effects loop, and another 1/4 inch out with switchable ir. Some of us want to go xlr to foh, use the loop, and run a real cab onstage WITHOUT ir.

FRIEDMAN, any options of turning OFF the IR's using the direct out port? It would have been nice to have an SRV preamp section to get very glassy clean tones and different tone stack voicings like scooped mids tone stack , dumble tone stacks. Including a Variac control, SAG control and biasing control to be able to dial in different types of tube edge of breaking up and EVH brown tones would have been nice.
PLEASE make the loop assignable to the channel and/or boost switches in an update! That'd be absolutely perfect for a minimum yet flexible setup. I promise to buy this thing in case you do!

That feature is hella useful, it allows you to run an additional preamp or amp and switch between it and the pedal ( WITHOUT ) the need for splitter cables or a switcher. And a built in midi cc/pc controllable NOISE GATE [ one that can be placed in front of the unit on the input AND in the return of its "4 cable method" AFTER the preamps; which you can select the setting of the noise gate PER PRESET, so to match perfectly with your amp tone.....😃 *These are the only things that is missing from this pedal series! IF Dave Friedman, could ADD THAT FEATURE and still keep the actual effects loop ( having both ) the jacks for the 4 cable method AND the effects loop + the built in MIDI CHANGABLE noise gate, this series would be [ 1 preamp to rule them all ] aka ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!*

Why don't you pair them together? Use the stomp as the effects pedal or even use the midi for snapshots when controlling the IR-X

You can already assign both, preset 1 could be CH1 no loop and boost and preset 2 could be CH2 loop and no boost for example!

IR-X FX Send into a standalone power amp to the cab of your choice. A Fryette Power station or Seymour Duncan PowerStage are two good options.
