I picked up the Diamondback HD 10x42 in Strata camo pattern at Bass Pro Shops for $169.99 on Saturday. They are sale during the Fall Hunting Classic event, running till 8/30/23. Love these binoculars, huge upgrade over the Field & Stream and Bushnell that I've used in the past. Well worth the price.
If you can find old Vortex Vipers made in Japan, they are the best binoculars Vortex has ever sold. They are highly collectible. The Japanese company (Kamakura Koki) that made them for Vortex now makes them for Tract Optics as the Toric binoculars.
@@conraywest where are you shopping that has the Leopold bX4 priced three times more than the vortex viper? I feel sorry for anybody that falls for the vortex marketing scheme
@@conraywest Even the BX2 which is probably about $100 less than the viper is equivalent to the The viper, and the BX2 is made in China, or you can go with the athlon Midas which is also going to be a hair better than the viper and also made in China
Thanks for review. Did it ever cross your mind to mention that there is currently a $100 price difference between the two at every retailer? Yeah I would guess the Diamondbacks are better also.
How about any actual details in general? Already have razor bino's and looking to find a cheaper one for my kid. 3 and a half minutes into this review I stopped. All I got from this is a bunch of I "feel", "I heard", "I think" and "I that". This was less about an objective review and more of subjective merry go round of useless info.
You are correct. The Crossfires got stickey, and the rubber degraded in about a year. Vortex said they can't be fixed but will send a new pair for free. Unfortunately, they are out of stock. Other than that they are great quality for the price and Vortex is a stand up company
So I am stuck between vortext diamondback and vortext diamondback HD. There is a decent price jump for the HD version of diamondback. But how big of a differnece would it make?
I have some Leupold Yosemite 8x30s and the clarity, color saturation, depth of field is way better than some of the cheaper brands like Tasco I have used in the past. Would the diamondbacks be a step up from the Leupold Yosemites or would I be better off with something like the Vortex Viper or Razor?
You'll have to step up to at least the Viper HD bins. Porro prisms deliver an image quality that is spectacular in relation to their cost. I just picked up a NIB pair of Nikon 8x30 E II binoculars and the glass is outstanding. For $550, the image quality is on par with my Swarovski SLC bins and at a third of the cost. Granted they're not waterproof, fogproof, or shockproof. But the optical quality gives up nothing to my SLCs.
Yeah I just went ahead and got the diamondbacks, $155 at optics planet. When I feel the need to “upgrade”, I’ll be looking to double that price. Not get the same glass in a better housing .
You kept saying... these are this.... and this is that. One could not tell which you were referring to unless you stated the model name. You had good intentions though
Is that a serious question? The short answer is an astounding Yes. The Big 3 European brands: Leica, Swarovski, & Zeiss. Then you have the Japanese juggernaut Nikon. And then there's Meopta, a well known optics manufacturer in the Czech Republic that equals the quality of the Austrian & German optics brands. Leupold has always been viewed by me as more of a riflescope maker, but they also have made binoculars for a long time. So yes, there have been manufacturers building quality bins long before Vortex came to town. Find an old pair of Leitz binos or Zeiss Dialyts and you'll be happy. The Leitz/Leica Trinovids from the 1960s are very high quality glass.
lol yeah it’s legal considering they aren’t an exact copy! I mean they might look similar but they definitely aren’t a replica that look identical and the fact that the names on them are different too. It’s not like they are counterfeit Swars. Totally different that just look a lil alike.
@Extreme Fart nothing can get Swaroski sharp light but expensiv austrian at the best not Japan the make nice knive cars but not that thing but the fail in the 2 world war
I personally prefer Leica & Zeiss to Swarovski. I have a pair of Swarovski 10x42mm SLC bins that I've had for a few years. Just picked up a pair of Leica Trinovid 8x32 HD binos for a smaller pair for travel and woods use. I will be selling the SLCs to make way for another larger pair of Leicas. My eye just prefers the image from Leica glass.

Were they the HD?
@flintsrt8 Yes, sir. It was a screaming deal that I just couldn't pass up.
Just got a pair today for 144$ with a coupon code at bass pro

Don't waste your money on the crossfire's just spend a little bit extra and get the diamondbacks. They are a lot better.

The Diamondack HD are a far better choice. Comparable to the Crossfire, are the Nikon Aculon 10x42 and they’re only $85.

Very usefull to me! I was in this dilema

Well let me ask a very simple question.
Were there any good binoculars out there before Vortex became a well known brand?
Say maybe 20 years ago?

Do they both come with any warrantys?
Yes, lifetime warranty

Personally I prefer the Swarovski NL 12x42. It has better FOV than any Vortex 10x42 and that's with 12x magnification too.
What a ridiculous comment. Comparing $3000 binos to $200 ones.
