Oh man the tip about reaching for the opposite toe! I used to do doubles like this all the time with a super solid grab, (tip if you pull in on the the board as hard as you can it makes doing a double a breeze) and for some reason the last few seasons this trick has escaped me all because I’ve been missing the grab. Thought I was just getting too old but it’s definitely just because I have been reaching for the grab by my back foot and didn’t even realize it. Beauty trick tip my friend! Thanks for sharing this with us
Success often hides in the little details 😅 I know the feeling of not sticking a trick any more and not knowing why, only to figure out you changed a very small part of the trick. Stoked to hear you're getting it again! Keep on shredding and have fun!
After 6 months, I finally got the crail grab on this backroll! The trick for me was trying the other side... For the life of me I could never reach the grab on the left. Despite that I can do invert back and front invert with tail grab on the left. Frustrated I tried on the right today... Low and behold, I could reach my board! Need to work on straightening my back leg and getting my head lower but I am thrilled to finally have something to work with! Thanks so much for sharing such unique & stylish trick tutorials!
hi great video great fan, I think the grab is called a crail grab, backroll with crail grab, funny never thought of combining them, Thx again for the inspiration
Hey Zarko Makes sense, I've never been so good at knowing all the names from the different grabs, but I heard crail before. I always enjoy combining different grabs. Enjoy your sessions!
Really cool trick and super helpful instructions! I managed to nail it on the first day. Backrolls started getting a bit boring and now I cannot get enough of this trick 🙏👏🤘 Keep on doing this great work with the masterclasses. Maybe one about more creative jump transitions??
Thanks! Happy you like it and find them useful! Board offs are a joll, hope you manage the video soon 🤗 Don't forget to send it in with #SAmasterclass 😜
Hi Steven! I really like you Masterclass, even though I am still quite far from doing those tricks. I managed to do about five bankroll-kind of maneuvers , after two of which I could continue. I don't get to kite a lot and weighing about 97 kg being 184 cm tall, I know, that I am not really a skinny guy. I am sharing a range of Core XR2 kites with a friend, and with my normal 138 cm board I always need to take a one size larger kite, than my skinnier buddy. So I do not know, if you have time for my questions. I'll ask you anyway. 1) I have trouble riding the XR2 with one hand: is this just stupid me, or is it maybe, that the XR2 is not a kite, that is easily steered one-handedly? 2) Riding the larger kite leaves me with tennis-elbow/kiters elbow, which is, why I would prefer a kite, that is not as grunty. 2) I have trouble stearing the kite quickly into the power zone in general and one-handedly. When attempting to do a smooth carved transition the kite most of the time passes 12:00 o'clock and I lose all momentum. 3) I have trouble with pop/popping with or without kite aid, especially doing it quickly, in order to hop over incoming wind waves. I have taken a lesson for it once, but that did not help. When watching others, I always think, that it is more a simple, flowy move, but I just haven't grasped or experienced the concept yet, and I have watched all the tutorials on that topic. 4) I have trouble continuing in switch stance after a carved turn. So I have a feeling, that there is a combination of similar beginner's mistakes linked to all my problems and here are some of the ideas I have to remedy this: kite more, of course: I am trying to do this and have already begun to go to Iijeselmeer more often. I have bought two larger used twin tip boards: a 144 cm Flysurfer Radical 6 and a 155 cm Two-AG Lotus (rather a light wind board). What I can already say now is, that I am now able to use a smaller sized kite than with my 138 board and that means less stress on my elbow. Both boards allow me to ride through short periods of wind slack better, than when riding my 138 board. Switch stance is easier with the larger boards and I hope to get this dialed now with the larger boards and then transfer the muscle memory to the 138 board. I know, that this really is "baby" stuff, but you are quite good at explaining. Do you maybe see a common thread connected with my problems and do you think, that this would be worth a video?
Hey Johnny That's quite a message you left there 😅 It's always hard to give tips without seeing someone kiting. But in general I would say you need to focus on your pop. If you're able to carve harder through the water just before you jump, you'll be able to divert more power in to the wind and therefor the kite will pull you up. Spray is usually a good sign for a good pop. Have a look at my "5 Tips to jump higher on flat water" ua-cam.com/video/jO2fSGcAOOM/v-deo.html Concerning the XR2, it's quite an old kite (launched in 2011). The older kites often have more bar pressure and therefor make it harder to steer the kite with one hand. This is something that improved loads with the later versions. Have you tried attaching your steering line connection to the loop closest to the trailing edge? This should help a little. But bigger boards and riding smaller kites is probably the best way to got at the moment. Hope this helps you a bit. Cheers Steven

That's awesome! Sometimes it's weird how tricks are easier to the "weak" side. Happy you figured it out and now you can work on form 🥳
Didn't know a backroll can look so stylish! Definetly gonna try this next session
And there is loads more of different variation that look just as stylish 😉
Have fun
GEAT like that new style of backroll
I'm happy that you like it! Did you give it a try?
Nice one! I am not even used to do some big backrolls as your 2nd one. My backrolls look basicly like Willows.. you motivate me to fix that gab! 🙏
Nice! There is so many ways to do them, I'll work on a video where I cover all of them 🤗 For now, enjoy practising these 👍
That was an awesome backroll! Thanks for the tutorial!
My pleasure! Did you manage to try it?
Thank you! Nice content again. Small but very useful tips in being able to stomp these variations 👌
Awesome! Happy you like it 🤗
Nailed it today! Love this trick! Thx a lot!
Thanks! Hapoy you enjoy it so much 🤙
So stylish! Love it!
Happy you like it!
Very interesting Backroll variant. It actually looks like a frontroll :-) (but its a backroll) Will certainly try it! Thx!
Totally agree that it looks a lot like a frontroll, such a fun variation though.
Enjoy the sesh! 🤗
Love your style Steven! Thanks for giving very useful tips, good explanation though 🤙😎🤙
Thanks! I love doing videos like these, so it's awesome getting responses like yours 😀

Love your channel! Can’t wait to try this one!!
Thanks! You'll have a lot of fun trying this one, small difference in the take off, but huge difference in the feel 🤗
Cool🤙🤙.
I'll try it tomorrow at Cauipe Lagoon.
Nice! How did it go?
@@stevenakkersdijk it looks easy, but I couldn't maybe because the wind was a little light.
I'll try it again tomorrow 🤙
Sick style! 🤙Definitely gonna try it out
Ohh you'll love it!

Glad that it helped you out man! I'm also completely hooked on this trick.
I'll put them on the list and try to film it asap.
Funny thing to read this comment 3 years later tomasz. Thx for the coaching on the slower and higher backrolls 😊
This looks so sick, gonna try this next sesh!🤙🤙
You should, its super fun to try
Hi. Thanks for making this video, very creative. It's happening in my next twin tip session (I hope). Regards.
Enjoy, it's a super fun trick to play around with.
Epic bro! Going to try this one next sesh!

Nice video Steven! I will definitely try that out!
I am working on a video myself actually, about learning to board off :)
Thanks! Happy you like it and find them useful!
Board offs are a joll, hope you manage the video soon 🤗
Don't forget to send it in with #SAmasterclass 😜
@@stevenakkersdijk of course! Where do you put the tag on a youtube video?
Ah don't think it works for youtube videos, just Instagram
@@stevenakkersdijk Ah alright. I'll send a link next time you upload a vidoe then. Hopefully I will have my own done by then
Tagging seems to work on YT too! 👌
Sick & easy to try! Any other type backroll/frontroll variation to recommend?
Inverted frontroll is always a fun one to try

Nice one! I will definitely try this version on the next session. Btw, second angle looks better to visualise it;]
Nice! Enjoy the ride 😀
The main reason that I added that 2nd angle is because it's shot from the back, easier to visualize like you say 👍
very nice !
I'm glad you liked it!
Good job.
Thank you!
u got a new sub🙌
Welcome aboard!
Thanks Bro!
No problem! Happy you liked it.
Thank you❤
Glad you like it!
What light are you using? When I take zoom calls in my van I look terrible
Was working with an LED panel from Newer I believe, there are some great options available.
A+
Thanks! Hope you enjoyed trying the trick
Great
Thanks!
Why everyone upload a video when I am kiting? 😠😊
😂😂 Why are you complaining? I prefer kiting myself over watching a video of someone kiting 🙈
@@stevenakkersdijk Because 😘😂
btw I had a really really nice loop session 🤙
Sweet! In the Netherlands se had 20 knots, which was nice as well
