Wonderfully filmed and presented. I’ve seen MANY videos and none have come close to explaining so well how to apply plaster. The video flowed well, the angles were very helpful, and I understand everything. Well done, and thank you!
I love the sounds of this video! I was a painter/sheetrock finisher for about 20 years and always loved the sound of troweling mud, but trowels sounds for straw plaster is much better! :)
The filmmaking is so incredible! You are great storytellers! Use if sound is incredibly instructional and adds to the excitement of the viewing. Thank you!
@@TheNitoProject I found small rocks are ok. I have a big super hard brick of about 30 lbs I made. It is 10 to 12 inches X 14 or 15 inches X 4 inches thick. I just shoveled three or four shovels of soil on my Arizona mountain property and added some cut dried long mountain grass and water and small sand like rocks from the top of one of the Any mounds and it turned out super sticky. It would not fall off my hand upside down when trying to shake it off. Right away, I said, this is the kind of stuff I need to build my 20X 30 cabin to stay warm in.. I think I would like to do a combination of Adobe bricks, Strawbale and Cob. Make roof real strong and put metal on roof with wood box frames on top of metal, then add Strawbales and another layer of sheet metal. I am not sure how it goes on the roof. I need to Google the video I partially seen.. want to make a super Cheep mountain retreat for anytime during the spring, summer, fall, winter as well.. Something that a couple people can build in a short time from May to October. Add windows, two doors and 8 feet of porch & awning all around cabin. Part of porch can be a screened in porch to stay away from summer mosquitos and June bugs while pickin banjo and sipping iced sweet tea. 😊😊
I come from a real mud plaster user community, my original old house was all mud plaster. Clay is ok. We use finer sand which is almost silty, and no straws at this stage. The fine straw comes from cow dung, maybe around 1/4 is cowdung in the mix. The finish is like cement. And then lime wash.
You’d laugh at my cob! But it’s been up for two years now no problems- no tools just Ramona’s feet! I found red clay, so later on I will do second coat- mine is crooked uneven, no straw. Wild grass, very primitive
Aha, this looks very similar to some Japanese plaster techniques I've seen, very cool. Straw instead of seaweed for glue, but otherwise looks like Japanese plaster. I like it!
Do you know of anyone who could build a house made of cob and clay in Aguascalientes, Ags., México? I want to do something like this but dunno where to find an architect or company that actually gets this eco-hoses. BTW thanks for the amazing videos, I really appreciate it they are very inspirational.
estoy por contruir mi casa en la granja. tus videos me fueron de extrema utilidad!! noe visto que alguien publique contenido respecto al tema y trabaje con la prolijidad que lo haces tu
How does this plaster avoid absorption of moisture thus weaken? Or the opposite, how does it avoid chipping and flaking in extreme dryness? Why not add a little bit of Lime or Gypsum?
in Bali we have a lot of straw from the rice harvest and there are good clay soils here also, but I am wondering if clay plaster walls can be used in a tropical environment? I watched the video on japanese style polished clay walls and wondering if using linseed oil with a straw clay plaster will withstand the high humidity...or maybe just for interior wall finishing??? just a interesting sidebar, my old farm house in North Carolina had a sand finish plaster with what appears to be horse hair or perhaps pig bristle as North Carolina has always been a large pig producer
I don't think clay will hold up well externally in a tropical climate unless you paint over it and maintain that. Rammed earth would work. Internal walls away from water would be ok.
Name, not that I now of, they seem to be getting more common and are at most bigger hardware stores sell them, yeah they do a better job usually mixing most stuff, only downside usually is that they can be aggressive on the bucket corners.
Up till now, in Algeria, some people build their home, in villages, and mountains using this way.it gives you freshness in summer , and the warmth of the clay in winter , and deeply you feel, mysteriously calm.
this video is so beautiful and informative!! im so happy i found you! question... is this an alternative for lime plaster ? or does this need to go below lime plaster?
How important is the sand in the mixture? You've explained that the straw is used to prevent cracking as it dries, but what about the sand? Does it act as an aggregate to add strength? Does it help control clay shrinkage?
You're exactly right. The straw provides tensile strength; the sand compressive strength. The type of sand used should be sharp - essentially composed of different particle sizes. This just helps everything (clay, straw and sand) bind and bond, better, together.
I think I have said many times how amazing you guys are. I have a question? My plaster that looks similar to the above dusts a little to the touch. What could be the reason? I will probably linseed oil it at the end to stop dusting but still I wander why it dusts as is as you say above that it should be dust free. Thank you for your time.
Marshall town my favourite trowel, they feel good in your hand. I used to use tyzac trowels I troweled for 15 yrs but after having cancer I don’t do it anymore it’s too physical

Great work to get this out in a professional format, this is what the Ecological building movement needs. Beautiful work guys.
Dude, I never, NEVER, turn on notifications on the channels I am subscribed to, but I just did for this channel. Can't wait for more videos.
SO non-toxic! No outgassing - ever. And no toxic fumes, if there were a fire. Biodegradable to the point where you could compost your walls.
Beautifully done guys...very artistically shot. Truly expresses the nature of the materials and the craft inherent in the process.
I am honored you think so, very nice words thanks Himat.
The filmmaking is so incredible! You are great storytellers! Use if sound is incredibly instructional and adds to the excitement of the viewing. Thank you!

This is one of my favorite UA-cam channels!
Superb. You are a real life hero. Superman.
Amongst the shit of UA-cam, you can find gems, this is one of them.

I thought lime is toxic
@@ozziegreen4850It is, but it should be fine if you're wearing gloves (I think)
Lime is Caustic and dangerous but not toxic.
Is the "lime wash" to harden it and shield it from moisture, or to give it a decorative sheen to its surface
@@ozziegreen4850No, it is caustic
the style of your videos is super soothing
Second Nito video I've seen. Just classy. I love your mom too!

But you did it. Starting is the key I think.
And I bet, beautiful! And built with your own two hands...we...feet.lol
What a beautiful look..
Tremendous potential for so many applications.
Thank you.

Nice video shoot too!

Aqui e Brasil muito massa adorei gratidão
If you leave the mixture to rest for at least a day after preparing it, its processing and quality will increase.

Yeah apply any Oils or sealer over this finish, or that polished Clay can be applied.
Were are you located now?
This is the ASMR i like
I love this
wonderfull job👍🏼
How often does one have to reapply or do repairs on the outside of buildings made with clay walls?
Does this mixer tip seen at 2:40 has a special name? Because it looks like it is doing beter job than those common spiral ones, and I want it.
