Villa Volta is an attraction in the amusement park Efteling in the Netherlands. It is a rare type of ride known as a Madhouse, which is a sort of haunted house, where the visitors get the illusion that either the building, the visitors themselves or both are turned upside down. It has been designed by Ton van de Ven and was built by Vekoma in 1996. At the time it was the first of its sort; nowadays the concept has been taken over by a number of other amusement parks.
When entering the house, there are two small waiting areas where a story is told about the house getting cursed, turning it upside down ever since. The story of Villa Volta is based on the legend of the buckriders, a fierce and merciless gang of robbers that was active in the Kempen in the Dutch provinces of North Brabant (where The Efteling is actually built) and Limburg and the bordering Belgian province of Brabant and Limburg (although the legend has as many versions about where the goat riders were in fact active). It was told that they had made a pact with the devil and flew through the sky on the backs of goats. They would mark the doors of the farms and houses where they would come and rob the place to warn the inhabitants.
Villa Volta is supposed to be the home of the leader of the goat riders, Hugo van den Loonsche Duynen, who inhabits the second waiting room as an animatronic. The house and Hugo where cursed by a mysterious woman after robbing the Abbey of Postel. She can be seen on top of the house swinging her arms on the wind. The woman tells Hugo:
"Nowhere in your house, nor in any other place in the world, will you find peace... Only when a noble man with the clear conscience like that of a newborn child enters your house will you find peace in your home and in your heart..."
Although Villa Volta is the First large scale project of this concept, the technique has been known since early 20th century. The benches where the visitors are seated are placed on a swing that swings with a maximum angle of 30 degrees. The interior of the house is a drum built around this swing that can turn 360 degrees, giving the visitors the illusion that they themselves are turning upside down. The music of Villa Volta was created by Ruud Bos, who also made the music for a number of other Efteling rides, such as Fata Morgana.
The same ride model can be found at Alton Towers in England. The ride is known as Hex -- the Legend of the Towers and is based around a local myth linked to the historical Towers building. Other madhouses have since opened at Drayton Manor and Parc Asterix. - Розваги

Altijd kippenvelmomentje op 15:27 wanneer hij 360° draait en die machtige muziek opkomt! Heerlijk!
It's a classic movie trick. The stands with the visitors move up to 90° both up and down and the walls of the room revolve on their own as well to create the illusion of the whole thing turning upside down. I've just been there two times in a row, love it so much! :D

This raid is pretty amazing. At the beginning, youre chair and the house move synchron. You cant see the moving, but you feel the g force. When it gets faster, you just dont know any more where is sky and where is ground.

The beginning is the very amazing part..
I remember when i was in that ride a week ago, the people gave ovations when it finished. The Video doesn't give you 10% of the real live experience. I can't compare it to other "Mad House Rides" because it's far better. That was just... amazing!

Grimnoir This is the original mad house ride, they actualy build the vila and preshow over a year after the opened the ride. at first you could see the shell revolving and the waiting line was outside.
Grimnoir It is really a great ride, but what makes it so much better than other Mad House Rides? The story before you enter the house or also the house itself?

Misschien ben ik gewoon te introvert en aandachtig, maar ik stoor me altijd te pletter aan mensen die zitten te praten tijdens een attractie; Amerikanen zijn daarin nog erger zoals je in ettelijke onride videos ziet. Denk je nu echt dat wat jij te zeggen (roepen) hebt tijdens een attractie boeiender is dan de attractie?

What you can't feel, because this ia a video, is that they make you feel that YOU are the one that is spinning around, without falling out of your seat. It feels really weird. That is why this ride is the best ride at Efteling for a lot of people.

haah leuk hoe dat meisje zo verbaasd zegt "hoe kan dat?" grappig dat kinderen in deze tijd van alle technische mogelijkheden met laptops, Iphones etc. nog zo verbaasd kunnen raken van een toch wel wat oudere attractie met een vrij simpel maar geniaal concept.
Ik snap hem nooit, Hoe kan dat ding in vredensnaam draaien?
penm kanaal de muren, enz. Draaien om de "bak" met mensen in zodat het lijkt alsof je overkop gaat.

You definitely are moving. It messes with your head because at the beginning of the ride, you feel yourself start tilting, but the room DOESNT look like its moving, then the room starts spinning as well. If you've ever been to an amusement park with a pendulum pirate ship ride, its kind of like that, but with the room spinning as well.
Well the trick is that they are using gravity to simulate inertia. When the house is spinning faster the chairs move back which causes people to fall more directly downwards and makes their center of gravity on their spine rather then in the middle of the body. That mimics the sensation of acceleration which would also cause you to be pushed into the seat.
Ik ga er over twee weken voor de eerste keer in. Volgens wikipedia draaien de stoelen 30 graden terwijl de kamer 360 graden draait. Er is een manier om daar achter te komen.

bij welk effect ik steeds keer op keer door versteld sta bij villa volta is namelijk het effect op de ramen waardoor het lijkt alsof er echte gordijnen achterhangen, chapeau voor nederland, knap gedaan!
Ge denkt toch niet dat men echte gordijnen ( dure gordijnen dus ) gaat ophangen? Deze attractie is in nederland en wij zijn zuinig he !
vind dit zeker een leuke attractie, de attractie stelt zelf opzich niet veel voor maar de aankleding en het verhaal dat is geniaal en maakt dit een aatractie die je niet mag overslaan als je de efteling bezoekt

It is about the "Bokkenrijders" in the Flamish Kempen (also were Efteling is located), "Vrouwe Goeds" (Woman Good) cursed Hugo van den Loonsche Duynen because he made a deal with the devil, robbing the villagers and lastly: a Church.
Only when someone with no mistakes made in life entered Villa Volta, the curse would be broken.
This was the first Madhouse ever built by Vekoma Nederland B.V., co-designed by Efteling.
When I was a little child I was there, too.. The feeling is amazing and the music from Ruud Bos is also suitable. I love it :) I think next year I will go to Efteling... :)

Snap inderdaad wat jullie bedoelen maar als je dit verhaal al 80 keer hebt aangehoord in je leven, dan is het op een bepaald moment niet erg boeiend meer voor sommige mensen! Alhoewel ik het persoonlijk spannend blijf vinden! ;)

Ik stoor me altijd aan dat schilderij met die bokkepoot. Hebben ze zoveel moeite gedaan om alles zo’n sjieke setting te geven en dan hangt er zo’n cheapass schilderijtje... dat kan iemand toch wel echt schilderen met n mooi lijstje eromheen...

Het is voor mij de beste attractie van de Efteling.Het verhaal daar achter is ook spannend.Ik geef hem een 10+ :)

The bank it self actually rotates with the room in conjunction. The feeling itself is pretty weird because it actually feels you are going upside down.

Ik vraag me altijd een beetje af, zeg dat je eruit valt.. (ok, dit zal niet gebeuren), val je dan keihard op de vloer of is de afstand toch iets groter? (Doch niet zo groot als je denkt.)

Ik vind 't erg leuk dat je ook rustig de tijd neemt om om je heen te kijken, zoals even rustig je oog leggen op het naastgelegen speeltuintje. Dat zijn precies de dingen die verraden dat je niet zomaar een zogenaamde Efteling fan bent, maar een echte, de 'Pieck-romanticus'. We zijn mss niet met velen, maar we genieten 't meest en dromen 't mooist :-). Leuk Dave.

I have been in there yesterday.. the real life experience is 10X better then on a video. It's Amazing!! My faforite ride in the efteling. It fucks with your mind! I really recommend to go in the ride when you visit it :)
Der Soundtrack in der Trommel ist ja mal der Hammer. Passend auf die Fahrt. Die Anlage im Phantasialand ist meiner Meinung nach aber noch etwas schöner.
Ben er als 5 jarige ingeweest, als 10 jarige en nu gisteren als 22 en het blijft fantastisch. Deze attractie gaat niet overkop want anders was ik wel degelijk mijn rugzak kwijtgeweest ^^ Wel fantastisch, ook een mooi verhaal (als je het te horen krijgt te midde van een boel kibbelende jongeren, natuurlijk)
I experienced a ride on "Mad House" at Gardaland, Villa Volta's "italian little cousin" that works pretty much the same. Oh gosh, it was so weird, maybe it has something to do with the internal ear because I felt dizzy for a while after the end of the ride! And it's only about the ceiling spinning while you move like a pendulum.
Awesome yet disturbing experience, video cannot describe the effect!

Vekoma build an awesome kind of attraction!
While Villa Volta is more realistic in its backgrounds,
Magic House tends to scare little kids, even though its design is mostly dedicated to a young audience.
This might be due to the use of lightning and music!
It is always fun to hear kids scream in awe and terror! XD

Is het echt zo eng zoals het eruit ziet? Ik weet dat je wel wat draaierig begint te worden als je de muren ziet bewegen. Beweegt je stoel ook exact?
