The lads' pipes have never been better. My love for TMBG has been the great unconditional of my adult life. I'm celebrating 30 years of fandom in 2018.
How can you not love They Might be Giants? The thick glasses, imperfect teeth, the dress sense (or lack thereof), even the accordion. Every nerd in the world should look at these guys and think, 'It doesn't matter if I'm not magazine perfect, I could be something amazing'...
I left my body: a song about dying and watching people from beyond trashing all of your personal items and wondering why they don't think they were as valuable as you once did........ Gotta love this band.
For more than 30 years I follow tmbg. And they continue to experiment and write quality pop tunes that are touching and funny and sad and joyful and that don´t make sense at all. I take a bow.
I love the full-band version (I believe Linnell on the Contra-Alto clarinet, multiple horns and is there violin in the mix too?). But I had no idea the two Johns and Danny could produce such a thick multilayered sound with just the 3 of them.
I'm KICKING myself for not seeing them in Brooklyn this past December. I have no valid reason why I didn't go. And the first show was a dream set list for me. Anybody have a time machine I could use??
Anita Smith THAT'S exactly why I did not go! However, I did see them the other night in New Haven, and I've posted two videos from the show! So I sort of made up for it!
Nothing more eccentric than your next hit single and a track from your previous album. Eccentric would be On Earth My Nina followed by some Zos Kia screaming for 5 minutes.
What specifically is "eccentric" about this performance? Rolling Stone has pigeon-holed TMBG since the 80's, because you couldn't figure out why they are beloved. Did you mean to call it "eclectic"? If Mumford & Sons played in your studios on washboards and steam-punk penny whistles, you'd just call it "an acoustic set". Get over yourselves RS. TMBG sounds great, can't wait to see them in Dallas this weekend!
Eccentric also means unusual, and their "Guitar and Accordion" duo can be indeed considered as unusual ever since their start together as They Might Be Giants. And that's not really a bad thing, it's actually one of the many reasons why their fans love them. And also, correction, the performance is not the "eccentric" part, it's their set, which I had already discussed above. And yes, they are one, if not, the best rock band I have ever listened to.
I love how they always smile as they sing these days

Flansy your voice has never been better.
Linnell's smiling while they harmonize is wonderful. They sound so damn good here.

it's so heartwarming (-':
i am currently feeling like this, theyre amazing
John Linnell's mood switch at 3:30 was amazing.
"I Left My Body" might be the best little song TMBG have written in recent years. Clever, provoking, and really catchy.
THEYRE SO HAPPY AAHHHH
Really good close-ups on the band. Reminds me of their old music vids, where you can really get into John singing and playing.
I think I legitimately prefer this version of I Left My Body.
This arrangement is great for sure. Flans has great tone

They're so happy!! And omg they sound incredible! Linnell's voice in the first song actually blew me away

the accordion really works here
Still got it
Flansy's guitar says "Flans" on it
That's as good as indie rock can get.
Meaning that is an outstanding performance equal to the original records, but with only three instruments.
Apart from those wrong chords from Flans.
@@ThreadBomb now I just heard it for the first time 😄

This sounded amazing. Love both those songs, especially Music Jail.

It's always fun watching Marty, because while everyone always gets into it, Marty really does put all the effort in all of the time.
How does this not have 1 million views? TMBG nailed it
Love Marty's Kafka shirt
Marty is absolutely killing it. One of the best drummers in the game

Frode Haugsgjerd Because of Austin Power's
They could have worked with him in the 90's, since he liked the band and they admired him, but they felt it would be too awkward.

A film they did music for.
Who Linell, no. I’ve listened to TMBG for my entire life, and never thought he looked like Austin powers, but they did write Dr. Evil for it.
+TovaShai Really? I can't quite see that.
Glasses and strange teeth alone don't really make you into Austin Powers. Maybe the stare, but it's creepier.
