When Roy Jones Jr was in his prime there was none that could compare to him he was truly special!!!!
Is that really you in that photo? God bless that booty
The greatest of all times
Yeah, and what a prime that was 14 years, from 1989 to 2003, almost 10 years as pfp no.1 - that will never be again, that's unrepeatable. His talent was unbelievable and still its almost impossible not to love him as a persona.
Prime Roy Jones
Prime Ali
Prime sugar Ray Robinson
Best to ever do it..
Was Mayweather around then or was he alot younger
By far the greatest pound for pound in boxing history in his prime. PERIOD.
I wouldn't say "by far" I think Mayweather would have something to say about that. Roy is in the convo for sure, but not by far. That said Roy is my favorite boxer of all time. His attitude, work ethic, and his all around good nature make him my favorite.
@@hanselmanryanjames Mayweather isn't on the level of prime sugar Ray Robinson or prime Ali yet he claims to be
@CHRIS SAVAGE I agree and I was a huge fan
I think by far is justified. For you love boxing and study it then you know Roy Jones jr. is the greatest pound-for-pound boxer in his prime.
@CHRIS SAVAGE I like Roy but you are correct he avoided alot of fighters and he may have beaten them like steve collins, nigel benn, frankie liles, michael nunn, chris eubank, gerald mclelland, Dariusz Michalczewski, James Toney at light heavyweight, Bernard Hopkins in his prime....but you will never know how it would have played out for Roy if he only would have took the challenges.
Roy Jones ability to throw punches from any angle at anytime was amazing.
Exactly
Hahaha. Roy Jones Jr's Victory dance in slow motion at the end is hilarious
Joseph Sowers. Lol.
soup and old clothes. If prime Roy Jones could dominate in weight classes higher than the middle weights, then he should at least have enough power to stun GGG.
Ikr
😂🤣
@@davonbenson4361 this version of Roy would embarrass and probably stop any version of Golovkin, there's different levels and era's. Roy's era was by far more competitive, battle tested and fundamentally sound.
The greatest victory dance I've ever seen. I want this as a taunt in a fighting game or a character action game. It's that glorious.
Lol agreed, it's one of the best I've ever seen!
@@waffle_burger8499 I'm not if I'm not mistaken I think I was doing that dance in my head last night but I didn't know who he was fighting so I just had to just play that dance myself in my head. 😂
Gangnam style OG
RJJ was straight-up frightening as a middleweight. Everyone always talks about what he did at LHW and his fight with Ruiz but Jones was pretty much superhuman to me as a boxer at 160 and 168lbs. I was like 14-17 at the time which probably played into it but I haven’t seen anyone like him since.
Tate was getting BOMBED the entire first round
The greatest ever. Simple as that.
I too share that opinion. In my book he is number 1.
@@leovi8706 yep, and we are by far not the only ones - Max Kellerman, Jim Lampley, and many other experts see him also on no 1 off boxing-histories pfp list. There is the big 5: Ray Robbinson, Ali, Ray Leonard, Jones Jr, Pacquiao.
Mad respect to Tate's corner. Alot of trainers would have let their fighter go on and take serious damage especially from a guy like rjj.
More like embarrassing. All that and gets smashed in one round
@@omarx2449 2nd round
I did not know Martin Lawrence was a boxer. SMH!
not known as a devastating left hook artist? The guy had the best left hook in the history of the sport lmao
Wouldn't go that far :)!
Axeman K9 Tell that to Montel Griffen
He never had the best left hook even as a middleweight. Sugar ray Robinson had the best. He probably knocked more people out with that punch alone then Roys total knock outs.
+marvelousmarvin secondly. If you want to see deadly look at Joe Louis then you'll see precision, speed and power, yea you would see multiple. but after the first his prey doesn't move. look at any of them.
+marvelousmarvin
You live in the past, Jones is the new breed of robinson, leonard and hagler. He was the best of all time at middleweight ,sorry but even if he doesn't ko a hagler or robinson on cuts or something , he certainly can win 7 rounds in a 12 rounder with this speed, even robinson would miss the mark.
This guy was an anomaly.A force of nature with unheard of speed!,A BRILLIANT MISSLE JAB AND LEFT HOOK. A right hand that ko'd the light heavy champ with a shot below the ribs. That was also a first time in history.
I feel like alot of kids these days don't know how good ROY was!!! Roy was a straight beast in his prime!!!
Roy was probably the most dominant fighter I have ever seen
This hit went the distance with Julian Jackson and roy jones does this
That hook was INVISIBLE right up until the point it put Tate to sleep... ZzzzZzzzZ
tate aint dancing no more. fastest, quickest, best and greatest left hook ever roy has
Tate swag was on 💯 at the beginning😂
Roy Jones doin the funky chicken at the end is hilarious!
Rob Parks ...That wasn't the Funky Chicken!
Remarkable performance by Tate, he never passed up an opportunity to smack his face into RJ's glove. His head speed was so fast he hit RJ's glove twice per second a few times. And I was impressed by all the time he spent perfecting his mean mouthy pre-fight game. You just have to respect a guy who foregoes boxing fundamentals and training to spend so much time learning how to lip off. What a Champ, he earned that $100 they paid him for this.
Roy Jones Jr the monster of the ring R J J the champion congrats to Roy Jones Jr God bless u
Magaling talaga si Roy walang tatalo sa kanya Ang champion mabuhay ka Jones
Young roy is a beast
Tates corner was really hyping him up for that ass kicking RJ put on him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shit was funny!!!
After round 1 RJs corner said finish this and let bounce and that he did in rd 2.
Facts 😂😂😂
Just think if Roy had retired right after Ruiz.
He would have been the GOAT
God status
@@millhousemillard2140 No doubt about it. I'd give anything if he would have done that.
Certified goat
Nah, he should have taken the Holyfield fight, gotten knocked out and collected all that money. No one would have thought any less of him?.
Jones dancing at 8:53 is the best shit ever lmfao.
Most definitely that was funny lmao
That nonchalant look Roy had on his face in the beginning before the bell.... Like im bout to run through this dude like a Olympic track meet🥊🥴🥴🥴
Best boxer in all of history... He beat good fighters so bad, that it hurt his own reputation... People wondered if maybe those fighters weren't that good. They were! Roy was just that much better than EVERYONE! All the other greats had hard fights in their prime that made them look good. Roy couldn't find a hard fight. He was Superman in there.
Hambolio 6 ...Superman?
Roy's STANKY LEG Dance tho 8:53 FUNNY AS SHATT!!!
Welp... Tate deserved it tho...
Thomas Tate when they met in the middle at the start of the fight playing them mind games 😂
Tate was fine until Jones hypnotised him with his chicken dance
Fuark.. What I do on the heavy bag is what Jones does to his opponents.
jones has knocked guys out that have never been knockedout and lost close decisions to top champions but after getting knockedout for the first time by roy jones jr, some of them have never been knockedout again jones was the only guy to do it.look what happened to tony thorton he went the distance with everyone and lost Close desicions that people thought he should of won in championship matches but jones destroyed him.same with Virgil hill jones broke his ribs .he was never stopped either before that fight.
Tate said you didn't hurt me as he shook his head, Roy said ARite
Mans a legend his style and technique is second to none
Beautiful performance by Roy. Tate came to fight as well, tough guy. Roy in his prime was a fucking weapon. Went in there to take guys OUT.
Joe Calzaghe fans pretend that footage like this doesn't exist
Jones gets kod multiple times after moving own from heavyweight before fighting slappy joe and the British fans act like joe didnt beat up a washed version of Jones. Sums up slappys career.
Perfection that punch... slow mo makes it that much better! Proper Ray Robinson esque delivery!
Roy Jones at he’s prime best pound for pound ever that’s all .
He was great but pound for pound Ray Robinson was the greatest
Hagler would have mobbed on Jones bad
@@Mr.GoldCoast516 Ray Robinson smoshinbon.
Ray fought alot, and alot of nobodies. Taxi cab drivers and pizza makers. Everytime he met a real fight, a named fighter, a champion, he got beat. Look up his records on wikipedia. Look at all his wins and ask yourself who they are. Look at all his losses, and ask yourself if you've ever heard of them. Most of them are greats.
Robinson fought alot, and alot of nobodies. That's it.
@@1974jrod hahahahaha sounds like he whipped your ass lol
@@1974jrod finally someone said it, all the old greats fought noodles, Roy in his prime beats everyone
1:50 Round 1
5:32 slow mo replay
5:50 Round 2
6:01 Knockdown punch
7:53 slow mo replay
I don’t understand how the announcers can be so laid back and casual with their commentary when a prime RJ is literally unleashing the matrix onto his opponent.🤯😂😂
i would have loved to see julian jackson vs roy.
Julian the hawk Jackson would have gotten knocked out by Roy
Wow now that a war
For real
Julian Jackson always had a shaky chin and lacked speed. Jones would've crushed him.
@@hitmantwestsidebloodsstl677 Julian would have folded Roy like wet laundry.
I have been working with a coworker for 3 years, and just found out, it turns out to be this man, Thomas Tate! It’s so surreal!
Love this. Send my regards please
Roy in his prime actually did not have great boxing fundamentals, but had excellent movement and was just so goddamn fast he was almost impossible to tag. Once age caught up to him though, the result was inevitable. Still, one of the best ever imho.
😂you're blind. he's mastered the fundamentals that's why he fights like that. that's his own style built on top of years of honing fundamentals. to not see that is strange to me
@@yogi2983That’s what I say to people every time, look back at Roy’s amateur fights you can clearly see he always had great fundamentals. His gifts aswell as his IQ was a deadly combination.
@@yogi2983Facts. These clowns don't really know what fundamentals are. Roy knew all the fundamentals. He was very technical. He just did things in a unorthodox way.
Great to watch one of the best ever in his prime no doubt
What a savage. A blown up middle weight that became heavy weight champ. If only he could have left the game earlier.
What a great time to be a fighter. If you want to study the greats you can cut on UA-cam and watch almost every fight. "The Rumble in the Jungle", "The War" "It Happened." All here.
Roy had the most lethal left hook in boxing history, but much respect to the other guys corner for running up there and protecting his fighter you don't see that a lot
You can’t see the projection of that left hook at all
This is a great corner that stop this need more like this
Like fury when he got knocked out by Wilder
class act by Eddie. awesome by jones.
The mid-ring standoff was absolutely hilarious
6:14 might be the single funniest thing I’ve ever seen.
The RODEO Taut wuz da BEST FR FR 🐐
wtf! i blink then i miss
Beautiful Match🎶🎵
The greatest to have ever done it. No cherry picking, no dodging, fought the very best in his time while they were in their prime. In my book he is number 1. With all due respect to Dempsey, Ali and Tyson.
Hagler would have killed Jones
@@wilfordgrimley4339 maybe.
leo vi ...Jones should have never moved up to the heavyweight division.
the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!
roy funny as hell
That punch was fucking beautiful... ray Robinson is looking down saying "just like me Roy"
Roys best ever knockout...
Montel Griffin 2 was the best knock out... the upper left hand if I’m not mistaken...
Naw Glen Kelly was the best ko he had and his best knockdown was Reggie Johnson.
I know this is old but his KO against Virgil Hill got him KO of the year. Body shot KO Virg had a few broken ribs after that fight
8:54 look at RJJ 😂😂 cracks me up every time
I like the way Richard steele paused like "whoah" when tate wabbled… even if his corner didn't step in he wudda probably stopped it... good and responsible by everyone involved...
Beautiful!!!
it was tate house like he said at start roy put him sleep in his house
He was great but Ray Robinson was the greatest
Jones Jr was downright scary in his prime
THOMAS TATE went down but NOT out. He fought one HECK of a fight against THE GREAT ROY JONES JR. He & His Family should be PROUD !
You know tate was like oh shit i fucked up in that first round.
0:18 Tate with trying to hype himself with his yes men. But then he looked like he didn't believe that ish. 🤣
Clase Pugil Jones fenomenal en todos los aspectos me gusta ver sus Combates
Eddie Mustafa Muhammad is such a great trainer--right there to protect his guy.
Roy Jones Jr was the Sugar Ray Robinson of my generation. He was just that good!
That left hook ; ohhh that Roy Jones Jr left HOOK!!!!!😎
Imagine roy jones jr prime he would beat Canelo, and all the rest of good medium weights today in the past he looked invincible
He would school Canelo with one arm tied behind his back.
Every time Roy stung his ass I kept saying: shake it off. Roy Jones victory dance is too funny!! I might start doing this when I get to work. @ 9:24 After that #1 I thought that was Roy's head. "whew" (So Much Gold)
mesube22 mi rojtv
That was nice Roy!! Showed him how it was done!! A fan not far from Quintette 👊😉
Tate's trainer knew his fighter was completeley outclassed and did the right thing to stop him getting hurt
Крассава ! Любят его в России !
It’s a shame we never got to see him versus mclenon. Roy Jones vs the g-man would have been the best fight in the division at the time by far
I’ve never felt like that fight was a big challenge for Jones. McClellan was a big time front runner and did not move his head at all. Roy would have punished him.
He was something very special in his day. Perhaps as special as Mayweather, yeah I know you guys dont like Mayweather. He was for a while, seemingly, the perfect fighter. I would have liked to have seen him stay at HW for longer and face Holyfield, Tyson Lewis, Tua and Morrison.
I doubt Roy had the power to compete with the guys you named. Ruiz was a paper champ at best and easy pickings for Roy. Tua knocked Ruiz out in a few seconds.
Roy should have stayed a middle weight. It fell apart when he went up in weight.
i watched this on DSF the German sports channel
Same punch that flattened Montell Griffen, the key to it is wrist snap at the end of the punch. Wrist snap is the main key to power in a hard serve in tennis where somebody like Roscoe Tanner trades three or four inches of wrist motion for three feet of racket head motion in the blink of an eye. Get the timing of that punch right and you could all but take somebody's head off with it.
The difference in class was apparent
Tate and his foul mouth and antagonizing self got a boxing lesson from a prime Roy Jones.
Them Tate boys are great at everything
Amazing shot
Nobody defeats this version of RJJ....Nobody.
All that tough shit goes out the window when that ding ding ding
6:02 those compubox graphics were rendered quite academic real quickly 🥊😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tate entered dancing and left dancing
Captain Hook !🥊
the moment that a boxing fight would last 6mins.
Modern day fighters rarely start this strong
Unstoppable. Prime Roy vs anybody
That Neon Deon horse gallop yo 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Jones hit hard
Tate was a perennial contender but he made the mistake of trying to show up Roy, who came out blazing and ended it style.
it was 29 seconds into the 2nd round that Thomas Tate realized....he'd f*cked up...LOL
Jones a big fan from india
Roy was the truth
6:14 Lolol, That's it Roy! That's the appropriate dance to do after that guy trashed talked you at the end of the previous round.
Roy Jones at his lightest weight class professionally. Roy would have killed Floyd at 160lbs.
This was the #1 contender Dam
Ref really thought about letting him continue 🤣😂🤣
