To people here watching who might not consider ace and or aro people part of the lgbtq+ community, consider: Asexual and Aromantic people can be heterosexual- although, they still do not fit the heteronormative norms of today even if they were straight, especially asexual people. I’m also aro ace myself, and I know for sure it is alienating to be around others who do not feel the same way growing up, I’ve been harassed for “pretending” I didn’t have a crush or had sexual or romantic feelings. I eventually find out that I’m not the only one who felt this way, it was reassuring
All things said, it’s important to know that Asexuals and Aromantic can still be lesbian, gay, bi, pan, trans and etc. But some may be straight too, and they’re still part of the lgbtq+ regardless
If you still think they don’t belong, I probably can’t change your opinion on it and I don’t care enough to educate someone who came to hate rather than take the time to understand other identities

Thank you so much for sharing. It breaks my heart to know even people within our own community want to exclude others. You belong 💚💜

I'm asexual but also identify as a lesbian, I do love people and enjoy close relationships. I just don't care for that kind of intimacy.

Last time I went to a pride event I was told ace are not welcome because we don't know what it's like to be discriminated against.
I haven't been back, though I do wear the rainbow in my heart.
Beautiful painting and thanks for sharing about ace and aro.

@@Iwanttodrawachicken I'm so sorry that happened to you. Absolutely unreasonable to say that to someone while actively discriminating against them 💔

    • @napier9350
      @napier9350 13 днів тому +1

@@Iwanttodrawachicken honestly I can understand their sentiment since our discrimination is more so discrete and well- less looked down upon, but with how corn and sex culture is starting to get out of hand imo (good on sex workers tho for finding income), it’s kind of pressuring. I didn’t wanna be the odd one out who didn’t like that kinda stuff or felt it. Plus expectations for most women is to give birth or provide their partner sex to keep the relationship going.
It’s true that the problems we face aren’t as drastic or as painful as those of trans and gay people, but nonetheless, we do not fit into the norm- which is what some of these people honestly forget about. We’re still alienated from the cishet normative society and the patriarchal standards for men and women

I didn't come to the realization that I am ACE until I turned 50, which is a hell of a time to make a life altering realization about yourself 😁 In grade school I fell in love with Smaug after reading The Hobbit and for years when people asked me about my first crush I told them it was Smaug...and now I consider myself a book dragon...and I had no idea Aces identified as Dragons....this makes so much more sense now...Your work is absolutely stunning and thank you for recognizing and including us.

I'm aroace (possibly Grey) and didn't fully realize until I was 34. More awareness is needed, so thank you so much for this video, Denise 🥰

I had no idea these labels exist, but I am so, so very appreciative to learn of them so that I can acknowledge other peoples differences - and learning of them while watching your beautiful art and hearing your soothing voice, it's just all the better. Cheers, Denise, thanks for your important work.

Hullo Denise, I have enjoyed watching your creation for your “Pride animals” and believe that art can open eyes and hearts! You create truly beautiful paintings and lovely commentary too! I was a bit surprised by the comment of someone who felt they were NOT part of the LGBT+ community. It is easier to hate than accept. We are all on the spectrum of life and we can encourage everyone to be what and who they are. I am glad that you continue to be truly open and encouraging through your art. Thank you for sharing more of your ideas and pride creations! I did wait for the final results of the final creation, I am just going to say it is glorious! I have been a bit hard on myself about brushes and how many I use. I was taught that you should be able to get your whole painting done with a #12 sable! I am just going to say that I was only able to do this for a very short time, while my Gran created painting after painting for many years with the one brush. Go easier on yourself and enjoy your painting, use every brush there is to create the effects you need for your paintings! I have also started to use white paint in my watercolor paintings, mostly gouache but I still hear that voice in my head “The white in your painting comes from the paper!” It is truly a hard rule for me to break. I am just so glad that art and artists are evolving and acceptance is possible if we all just try.

Love love love this, Denise! Your Pride Animal paintings never fail to put a smile on my face every year, and as someone who has recently embraced their identity as being on the aroace spectrum, these pieces in particular mean a lot. As always, your painting process is so lovely to watch.
To my fellow aromantic and asexual siblings, you are valid

I am Demisexual and I didn’t know we get to be dragons I love that lol
The most annoying discourse I see commonly about being demisexual is the idea that everyone is like that. But “society” makes it so people don’t have any values. Very confusing to me because one of the main things I felt before I discovered the label was how different I am from my peers.

Denise, do you know if it’s ok to be part of world watercolour month, even if I don’t draw the images myself…
I watercolour digital stamps/ acrylic stamp images.
