I own it here in Houston. It’s great. Looks awesome. About the only aggressive looking scooter here. 68mph. All led lights including blinkers. Abs. Adjustable windscreen, they make larger ones to add on. Keyless. Tapered handlebars like a dirtbike. Smooth running and comfortable. It’s not a max scooter like ur saying. It’s still small. Max scooters look like jet skis with wheels. Also has over 5in of suspension travel. Honda reliability.

I cannot find a dealer with a Yamaha XMAX (300cc), so I have considered stepping down to an available Honda ADV150. This review has helped me hold out and to resist that idea.

FYI the windscreen is adjustable. You can raise it to direct the wind over your head.

    TLDR for other watchers.
    Man rides offroad oriented scooter.
Complains about scooter not offering enough to justify offroad marketing.
Doesn't take it offroad once in the entire review but does compliment the suspension travel. From the offroad oriented shocks.

Well I’m going to stick to the ADV 150 because I’ve never ridden a vesper and don’t care to as for the engine been a bit small , yes I’d like a 300cc it’s a fun bike I can pick this up in Aust for $6500ish and I think to pay more would it would be hard to settle , anyway that’s my thought

Damn, everyone over there has a bike of some kind. That's awesome! Wish it were like that here in Texas. Great review BTW.

5:00 Perhaps that's because Vespas have smaller wheels (12 inches if I remember correctly) plus their handlebars are positioned taller and much closer to your chest than typical Honda scooters in Indonesia.

I think this is definitely it. Smaller wheels = you feel every single bump.

I don't understand Honda's intent with this bike. Most people who ride scooters are not going "off-road" or anything, especially with a smaller cc engine like this. I would think there are far better choices for that type of riding. I've been researching the PCX for years and that will probably be my choice when I do buy a scooter, but I am still considering this too. So far, I have not been swayed to a point where this makes more sense than a PCX at the moment. I have noticed the ADV150 does gain a slightly higher top-end speed, (about 5-10mph) but not significant enough to pay the extra money for it to me. I don't plan to ride on the highway anyway. Time will tell. To really know, I need to ride one, along with a PCX to make my final decision.

I agree it's not off road oriented however it is more than capable of trailing compared to other scooters in the same segment. Apart from the small bump of speed the major difference you can feel compared to the PCX would be the showa subtank suspensions (something that scooters are know to be terrible for) the disc brake as opposed to a drum brake in the PCX and the ground clearance of the ADV.

This bike popular among asian market, considering the road in asia isn't always in good condition, this bike is perfect for it purpose. I have yamaha Nmax 155, and this honda adv 150 are so much more convenience when I was going to rural area with mild offroad condition.

it is a wrong size bike. the fun comes to riders with less than 170cm height on the foot board over the cobblestone path; but cant get the dampers to work like your riding feel. the most practicality - its on the eight liter fuel tank chugs three hundred plus k with no refuelling (before the right hand gave up). the back rider isnt sticking out at traffic light. not sure to bring oversize scooter on muddy tracks, regardless engine size. and safe ride...

the idea - letting it pace what penida has to offer, turned to sleepless hours.

Well the thing about keyless vehicles is that they can be hacked then stolen. Its a total turnoff in my opinion.

I haven't heard of any benefits to the keyless systems... 😅

Why not compare a Vespa and ADV 150 on off-road if Vespa would indeed feel more comfortable.

Vespa technology is old, they blow round in the wind, they are slow and are expensive to service and repair. People are star struck by Vespa bikes and overlook all their faults.

maybe so, but I was commenting purely from a "first ride" type experience. not a long term ownership experience.

As a Honda fan I would probably never own a Vespa and I think a Vespa owner may say the same of a Honda. Based in Thailand I would rather know I can rely on Honda for reliability and parts pricing. The Vespa is a feminine styled scooter and the ADV is definitely a masculine Africa Twin style cue. And the key issue really? Push once and turn the knob to start versus fuss with a inserting a key and turning. Hmmm you seem a Vespa guy... Go with the girl in the cute helmet on the yellow vespa. And pull the windscreen up on the ADV to change the wind flow.

I just didn't like the bike. Try not to take it to heart. I'm a Honda fan when it comes to proper adventure bikes (thinking about buying the CRF Rally)... this ADV scooter is just a weird halfway machine that is not particularly good at either of its core attributes. If you want a scooter get a proper scooter, if you want an adventure bike get a proper dual sport or adv.... if you want a combo of those two, well then I suppose you could buy this frankenbike but I don't really get it, personally.

@@yongfook Is it a good bike for a 3rd world-er that lives in the village but work in the city? We are talking maybe unpaved / gravel road and city road with high traffic (hence the dct / auto engine).

  • @HunterSkiff

I think they missed the mark on this one. A 300cc engine in a truly adventure scooter, would be more popular I presume. Heck, people in the states have been asking for the X-ADV for years

I'd prefer an Aerox 155. Those roads are grim - too narrow and overcrowded.
