I have always wanted to visit Maya Bay after seeing, "The Beach." I just learned that the reason they closed it in 2018 was because it was seeing up to 5K visitors per day!!! The called it, "the beach that was loved to death." So they closed it in 2018 because most of the coral had been destroyed. They replanted over 30K pieces of coral to help regenerate the coral. The bay was reopened in 2022 and is now limited to 300 visitors. It's so important to respect this beautiful planet. 🌎A bucket list destination for sure.
Koh Phi Phi has changed a lot. Back in 2002 there was only a small dirt track on the island (with big potholes). They didn't have any paved roads or paved streets.

Just letting you know that trash on the beach isn’t been left there by tourists visiting that beach , because of this time of year and season and the water is it getting rougher that’s washing in from way out in the sea !
In 2015 I paid 80$ for an overnight trip to Maya Bay. We slept in sleeping bags on the beach. Had the whole bay for ourselfs all morning. I don’t think this is possible these days anymore.
Chris I’m sure all the trash on Maya bay has washed up the beach because of the strong current coming in to the beach. Maybe because of rainy season and higher tides. I was there few months ago at the same time in the morning and the beach was spot clean and the water was way more back down and no waves at all 14:54

Same here in Costa Rica , local/resident pay almost nothing for national park compare to tourist and thats all good as they usually earn way less
