I have always wanted to visit Maya Bay after seeing, "The Beach." I just learned that the reason they closed it in 2018 was because it was seeing up to 5K visitors per day!!! The called it, "the beach that was loved to death." So they closed it in 2018 because most of the coral had been destroyed. They replanted over 30K pieces of coral to help regenerate the coral. The bay was reopened in 2022 and is now limited to 300 visitors. It's so important to respect this beautiful planet. 🌎A bucket list destination for sure.

In 2015 I paid 80$ for an overnight trip to Maya Bay. We slept in sleeping bags on the beach. Had the whole bay for ourselfs all morning. I don’t think this is possible these days anymore.
Just letting you know that trash on the beach isn’t been left there by tourists visiting that beach , because of this time of year and season and the water is it getting rougher that’s washing in from way out in the sea !

Koh Phi Phi has changed a lot. Back in 2002 there was only a small dirt track on the island (with big potholes). They didn't have any paved roads or paved streets.
14:43 When you see plastic in the sand you should keep it If I was there, I couldn't stand to see the water wash the plastic into the sea. It may not be your trash. It's the world of all of us. It's the duty of all of us.
You speak well, you know there shouldn't be any trash on the beach. But you can pick the trash out of the water with your feet. It's easy. I'm mad with you.
I hate that India Pakistan Thailand and a lot of other country’s in that area charge foreigners more for certain things because they want tourism to help them start charging more and blatantly shove it in your face I disagree with that a lot

99% comes in with the currents and waves from all over asia unfortunately, in Hawaii I find stuff on the beach from japan even !! It’s sad how the ocean has became dumping grounds! I personally seen some of the worst in Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand :( hope ppl

Visiting Maya Bay as is restrictive and not worthy today asa visit. You can't even get knee deep in water, and Thailand just announced they'll close it off seasonally like Similans. I've done the usual boat trips in the region that are amazing. I took a private boat to spend 6 hrs at Bamboo Island. I don't buy the Phi Phi island hype, as I didn't care for it. Railay Beach is superior, and access to islands is easier from Ao Nong than Phuket ... without the Patpong shit.

I visited back in 2009 with a group of 5 friends, you were able to swim in the sea there and we literally spent all day in the water having a game of catch. 1 of the guys went back 2 years later and even then he said it had totally changed and had too many tourists. Hopefully the Thai government has a handle on it now.
Just in reference to the rubbish, this comes in from the sea and is a problem throughout the area. I've noticed over the years of going to other Thai islands how pronounced the problem is, we all need to do better with our rubbish and recycling so that these places can be left unspoilt.

Hi Chris! KOH (island in Thai) is actually pronounced with a soft (o). This is one of the most mispronounced words in Thai by tourists. The (o) in Koh sounds exactly like the (o) in the word GOLF. The letter (h) at the end makes the letter (o) soft-sounding. No hate, just want you to pronounce koh like a local Thai.

Same here in Costa Rica , local/resident pay almost nothing for national park compare to tourist and thats all good as they usually earn way less
