Playing as a pro, whatever level it is, is an incredible accomplishment, and one to be celebrated.
You’re one of a small percentage of footballers in the world

From Texas here! Thanks for sharing these insights! Love hearing about these things because in Texas it’s all about American football.

44:00 National league south teams play less direct. More teams play out from back than the National league Prem or National league North.
If you look at it a lot of defenders lack the technique and skill to play the ball out from the back at the lower levels. Teams that stick to it, do get killed if they always play out from back.
You only see a better standard of football from League 1 upwards.

Ross Barrow what a top bloke the way he came across! People don't worry if you don't make it straight away listen to this man study hard and work at your dream either way you'll have something at the end 👍UTI

Ross is a top guy, hope he stays with Scunthorpe. Could do much worse than get him involved in the academy when it's back up and running, he'd be a great mentor now and an even better coach in the future, still only 26, wise beyond his years. UTI

Another great episode guys love the channel . Would be great to see an episode based on purely pre academy age group . Some specifics on what scouts are looking for at that age and the type of things parents can be doing to aid there child with being picked up at that age .

My step son is a great U16 goalkeeper if any scouts are watching this. He's desperate to play professionally and is highly regarded in this area

Scouts dont look to sign people from youtube comments. I recommend sending emails to lower league clubs for trials.

@@emmafirth3345either keep sending them regularly, look for open trial dates, or move to a top grassroots club in the area, certain grassroots clubs are feeders into acedemy football. Hope this helps.

You need to get him into trials, although as he is 16 its probably too late for him. If you can get him into a team from step 4 or step 5 of non-league then there is a chance of him climbing the levels. Anything lower than that is probably just low level grass roots. If he hasnt had dedicating coaching and already been in an academy at age 16, very little chance of him making it.

Lower league football, including the top 3-4 leagues of the non league is pretty brutal, hostile and harsh.
If this competitive nature of the lower end(s) of the pyramid helped to produce the best players I'd be all in favour of it. However, my only issue with it, is that I don't believe this culture is actually the hotbed required to produce players of a top, top level. You'll get resilient, honest and solid pros out of it, but I believe the acceptance of this footballing landscape is a big reason why we fail historically. Not just in England, but all the English speaking nations
It's so ingrained though, with the climate and heritage, I can't see much in the way of change

Completely disagree. The players that end up at Nat League Prem or Nat League North and South are principally failed players from Cat 1-3 academies. They could not hack it at the higher level and were let go.
The NLP, NLN and NLS are all playing more direct because the players arent good enough technically with vision, passing and first touch to play out from the back. Or to play a more technical and shorter passing football. It comes down to a lack of raw talent or suffering injuries etc...that most of them are more suited to playing direct football.
At the lower level its about winning, and you need to play an effective style to win games with the players available. I know of a team that went up to NLP and was playing out from the back, within a season they had to resort to a more direct game. Simply because they were struggling and teams pressed them high and only needed to steal it a few times and they were letting in 3 goals a game until they made the change.
