I think it's a weird situation, he definitely has effort issues but the kings playstyle did not open up for him to do what he wanted to do. Also, the caps are not a veteran team bro, only Carlson, Dowd, Wilson and Ovi, the rest lack experience or have not been in the league very long.

2- Philip Danault was the nb 2 center with defensive duties. (the guy changed team because of potential reduced ice time)

I watched 4/5ths of the games PLD was in for the Kings. The Kings emphasize two-way play and PLD with his big body would often dodge opponents in the defensive zone. So many goals were scored against the Kings when he and rookie defenseman Jordan Spence were on the ice in the Kings' zone. Jordan is a rookie puck mover so while it's not ideal for a defenseman to let in goals, he's a rookie and learning. PLD is a huge center and a longtime veteran and you can see him skating around the defensive zone around players he should be checking (body, stick, whatever).
TL DR, you play your way into the top six. You also play your way out of the top six. PLD played his way out of the top six.

@@Rorschachqp Playing regularly with Laferriere, Trevor Moore, victor addison is a wierd spot when you arrive with a new team. He has been bundled around with every forward in that team.
Let's face it. The LA kings had no idea what they wanted when they got Dubois. They knew how he played and tried to change his ways while cutting his icetime and using him as filling.
Lots of team do this, they just do not usually offer 8.5 million contracts for 8 years to do so.

I remember reading articles from LA Kings scribes saying that PLD was going to be a crucial element in shutting down one of McDavid or Draisitl, should the Oilers and Kings meet in the playoffs. I then read even more articles saying the same thing when the Oilers and Kings were locked in a 1st round matchup for the 3rd year in a row. What's funny is that, not only did he NOT shut down McDavid or Draisitl, he got shut down...BY RYAN MCLEOD!

It's projecting to say PLD's trade destroyed the Kings' chances for Cup contention in the playoffs. The Kings, with no 1C, no 1D and no 1G never had a chance. The moment they let go of Dean Lombardi in 2020, they should have been looking at a total rebuild within a couple years.

As a Kings fan i was pretty heartbroken considering the haul it took to get him and the financial commitment the Kings had made.
The Kings did drop the ball on his usage. Any player that gets over 100 minutes less power play time is not going to give you much, hut at the same time for $8 million dollars a player should make things pretty evident he needs more usage.
Pierre simply didn't earn much and didn't make it a hard decision to use him less.

He is a waist of time and money always has been always will be. If he gets a contract after this one runs out it will only be because he signs for what he is maybe worth. The league minimum which I truly believe is again over payment.

I think once he got the bag, and the grift secured, he don't gaf. Rob Blake, stop surfing in that dirty Pacific ocean and getting hit on the head at beach volleyball. what were you thinking?

PLD is going to drag the Caps down, Ovi is going to score even LESS than he did last season, Caps will NOT make the playoffs. Ovi signs with the NYR and breaks the needle nosed pricks' record at MSG in a blueshirt in Jan '26 then IMMEDIATELY retires the next game.

Well, as an arm chair player, I think PLD is just straight up lazy. Now, you might object to that statement, but lets be real....if you mess up in one market, sure that happens. If you mess up in 2, ok....if you mess up in every single market you enter? Thats just a lazy player, get the money, check out. I think PLD is exactly that kind of player. Honestly, I think he should be kicked to the curb and let some younger, hungrier, willing to play their worth players in. He has has enough chances.

Columbus was because Torts is not the coach for everyone and clearly he didn’t mesh well with PLD, in Winnipeg he was solid and played quite well, and LA there was a slight lack of effort but the coaching staff put him in tough situations, I think he can be lazy at times but it’s not that bad
