Low Boost code on CLA45 AMG M133 turbo

- Excessive wear on wastegte of CLA45 / GLA45 causing low boost code. always check wastegate for play or rattle. No play should be present
Same concept of checking applies to all AMG and Mercedes-Benz turbos, M177, M157, M133, M256, M278
Yup first thing I check before tuning any high mileage car, that and the electronic diverter valve. Great video!
yes the flapper and the sleeve come as a kit. The sleeve is hard to remove I just drilled it out and also bashed it with various objects. The best tool I used was a bolt and hammer to punch the sleeve out.
The flapper needs a welding into position which I managed as an amateur. If in doubt though you could get a mobile welder to do it or take the turbo to a garage and they should be able to help.

We tried, from several suppliers, the solution did not last or pass our quality control as a long term solution. Also the labor to drill it out with carbide drill and machine+welding professionally quickly add up.

Got 65k on my 45 and I’m having this issue. Got a lil play in the flapper. I do build boost. But sometimes it slams open and I lose all boost. So bad it throws me forward in the drivers seat
Yep I got this code and ended up needing a new turbo.
Sheeessh must be a 2014 since the backing plate is still there somebody should’ve mentioned he should’ve gotten a BOV to prevent turbo surge from damaging the the turbo components
The BOV is useful to extend the life of bearings (does fail indeed due to lateral thrust of overboost), but it wouldn't do much for the wastegate damage mentioned here, the latter is thermal and friction wear
I mean M.E actuates the wastegate so when tuned it’s dumping more waste than it was originally intended too so wouldn’t a bov prevent that waste from surging back through the components
Can anyone tell me...when the wastegate is open, should there be any play in the rod and the linkage from the actuator to the turbo housing?

the turbo fails again in 1000 to 2000 miles. that's not a solution. Thank you for the suggestion though
How can I replace the waste gate actuator arm? Or do I need to replace the whole turbo?

You can insert some inserts to reduce the wobble!
I changed the turbo and still I'm getting the same code. Turbocharger/supercharger under boost. What else can I check?
@@waqasanwer5702 assuming the turbo is good and new, make sure the control valve is working to supply vaccum to the turbo properly. this should be checked before the turbo is replaced.
@@jrm163 No you cant. wastegate gets as hot as 1000 degree. it will bind when up to temp if you shim it. if it sticks closed you can melt your or someone's pistons. please dont do that.

The whole turbo needs replaced because the housing is worn and cannot be sleeved reliably. Cheap solutions offered on the internet will not last.
I bad the same issue but the waste gate is adjustable so I just shorted the rod and wallah its fine now, no need for a mechanic
give it another month or so, and you ll need a mechanic. When the gate fails, it no longer closes, even when the arm is turned all the way to the limit. Adjusting the arm is a temporary solution, not a permanent fix
how many miles did that have when that happened ?

these typically fail around 90K average. We have seen them fail as early as 70K, and as late as 130K miles. tuning is not a factor as much as driving habits (we saw the issue on stock cars as often as tuned ones)
So can the rod or other parts with play be replaced or is it time to replace the whole turbo?
You can get a replacement flapper off eBay. Search mamba UK. Iv just ordered mine.
